I know its incredibly premature to be doing this, but having completed the games of Gen. VI, I can't help but think about what Generation VII is going to be like.

I don't know if there's a specialized "future generations" forum for this kind of question, but if there is, please just move it there, mods.

Anyway, there are three specific areas I'm want to discuss here, but feel free to talk about anything you want.

1. The Starters: what do you want the starters of next Gen to be based on?

My thoughts: The Fire starter's probably gonna be based on another Chinese Zodiac animal. There are six left: ox, rabbit, sheep, tiger, snake, and horse (which would make Rapidash kind of superfluous, wouldn't it?). I'm personally hoping for the Rabbit or the Sheep. I'm hoping for an avian Grass starter. Maybe based on a parrot. And the Water starter? I'm not sure. I'm also hoping for some unique, underutilized, or downright strange typings, like Fire/Ice, Fire/Poison, Grass/Electric, or Grass/Dragon.

2. The Eeveelutions:

My thoughts: We kind of got gypped this Gen in that Sylveon is the only new Eeveelution we got. I think, considering the scant amount of new Pokémon we got, they could've thrown us a bone and created one more to work with. A Fighting or Steel or Dragon-type Eeveelution would have been awesome. But for next generation, I'm hoping for two Eeveelutions, a Steel-type and a Fighting-type.

3. The Legendaries: What world mythology do you think they'll borrow from next? They've already covered Japanese, Biblical, Creation, Tao, and Norse.

My thoughts: For next Generation, I'm hoping something Native American. Pokémon based on the Raven and Coyote gods or some other Native American creation myth would be pretty sweet.

In generation seven, I'd really like to see walking Pokémon make a return. It was pretty cute to see my Pokémon follow me, and the reactions that they made when interacting with them were great. (: I would like the region to be based around Ireland (or any other similar places), too, and would also love to see some evolutions from Pokémon of gens. One Pokémon that truly deserves an evolution is, in my opinion, Skarmory. Skarmory isn't that bad when it comes to battling, but an evolution could make it even better. If possible, Delibird should be getting an evolution as well. Delibird is a Christmas-themed Pokémon and based around Santa—perhaps they could make its evolution look even more like Santa, by giving it a larger body, an extended belly, and longer beard? Kids would be in love with this Pokémon, and so would I. I mean, who wouldn't? xD

1.
Water - an Humanoid type siren (something like Hypno but grey and with swimming features)
Fire/bug - A coachroach-like pokémon whose third evolution would be an hybrid of coachroach/moth/spiderish (a mix of them all but with distint fire features)
Grass/Steel - An armored tomato(ish) Pokémon, wearing a woodenstick weapon, on third evolution it becomes sort of a clone of Blastoise but with an armor instead of a turtle.

2.
Probably only a steel Eevee, with no real difference except it will look metallish, just like they did with Mario.

3.
Egyptian, Day/Night Legendaries.

As for Eeveelutions, I'm hoping that a Dragon-type one Eeveelution exists, so that all Types that were classified as Special prior to Generation 4 will have received its own designated Eeveelution. Additionally, a Fighting-type Eeveelution and a Poison-type Eeveelution would be great, just so we can have the wonderfully punny names of Champeon and Scorpeon. :D Ultimately, my wish is that each existing Type gets at least one Eeveelution to its name.

As for Espeon, Umbreon, and Leafeon, I would love it if they underwent a slight retcon and could also be evolved via Sun Stone, Moon Stone, and Leaf Stone, respectively, because it just seems so likely! At least Pokemon XD lended more credence with Espeon and Umbreon being related to evolutionary fragments... (the Sun Shard and Moon Shard...)

Legendaries: In my opinion, there needs to be at least 6-7 legendaries. 3 "mascot-esque" legendary Pokemon (2 of them being the paired mascots with 680 Base Stat Total, and possibly one of them being hidden away like Rayquaza or Zygarde), 3 "legendary trio" Pokemon (like Moltres, Articuno, and Zapdos; each preferably with a Base Stat Total of 580), and the "Mew" of that generation (with a Base Stat Total of 600). XY irritated me by not including a classic "580-BST legendary Pokemon trio". Any Mewtwo/Lucario-esque Pokemon or other standalone solo/duo Pokemon could be great, too, if they work well.

Native American mythology-inspired Pokemon could be interesting, although I'm hoping there's not much overlap with the Pokemon legends of past generations (i.e., we really don't need anymore "sea guardian" legendary Pokemon).

Other hopes for Generation 7:

-Bug-type legendary Pokemon with a cool design (aside from Insect-Plate Arceus). Also, Dark-type Gym! Both of these are long overdue! Not to mention Tail-Glow Ampharos (or if there are balancing concerns, at least give it Nasty Plot).

-Unrestricted customization for the Poke Balls that hatched Pokemon are placed in, as in you don't have to rely on the "default Poke Ball" or "the mother's Poke Ball"; you can choose whichever Poke Ball you want as long as you have one in your Bag (and the Master Ball and Cherish Ball shouldn't be off-limits as options for Trainers who want to use them). Despite the many opportunities afforded via breeding, one of the main reasons I hate breeding Pokemon is that essentially every Pokemon pre-Generation 6 is stuck in a plain old Poke Ball, in a world where there's like 25 different variants to choose from, several of which may look cooler.

-Also, speaking of Poke Balls, Generation 4's Seals need to return. I haven't even played the games of that generation yet, and Seals are already one of my most favorite feature in that Generation (as I was enthralled by the different Generation 3 animation effects whenever Pokemon were sent out from their Poke Balls).

-Also, speaking of forgotten features, Generation 3's Secret Bases need to return! Aside from sporting some pretty nifty decorations and customizable layouts, they were quite the source of large quantities of Experience Points, even surpassing the Experience Point yield of the Hoenn Elite 4 and Champion, at times. And with interpersonal connectivity being easier now (and promoted even more, thanks to the Kalos Friend Safari feature), the implementation of Secret Bases make even more sense now.

-Any move that has been available in any generation from a Move Tutor since Generation 3 should be taught by a Move Tutor in Generation 7. A bit subjective, but the TM list needs to contain all the "good" TM moves from Generations 3-6; any viable move unable to retain its TM status (such as having to make room for a "new" move of Generation 7, for example) should be available via Move Tutor.

-Berry Trees need to stay IN-GAME (not that "online Dream World only" crap from Generation 5) and, like, never, ever be taken out again. The Berry Pot of HG/SS would be a much welcome re-addition, so you could carry a few Berry plants with you without having to specifically fly to whereever the Berry Plots/Farms are.

-Not sure if these are readily available in Kalos, but Apricorn Poke Balls need to be freely buy-able. This seems to be my most desired feature that has kept on getting cut since HG/SS, and it's irritating since it's theoretically easy to implement. It's just so annoying when the code is in the game for these Balls (Generation 5 definitely; I'm presuming Generation 6 as well unless Pokemon Bank somehow manages to overwrite past-generation Pokemon's Apricorn Balls with a regular Poke Ball or something), yet they're unavailable to purchase in-game. I mean, Generation 3's FireRed/LeafGreen had the "item-importing salesman" thing down pat in the Sevii Islands; there's no excuse why a post-Generation 4 game can't do the same thing. Game Freak can leave the "Apricorn-MAKING" mechanic in Johto-based games if they want, but at least let there be salesmen in other regions who import Apricorn Balls or SOMETHING. If we can have all of those clothing options in Kalos, surely a few measly Poke Balls isn't too much to ask? Also, make the Cherish Ball a non-event Poke Ball, please. A Ribbon to differentiate event Pokemon from non-event Pokemon is enough; just let them come in a Premier Ball or something (since it IS for commemorating special events, after all...).

-Items like the Shiny Charm, Oval Charm, Poke Radar, and VS Seeker all need to stay for future generations, as well as the "auto-use Repel" feature. And that "Start = X" button configurationoption from DPPt, if that's still possible on the Nintendo 3DS.

-As for Walking Pokemon, I'd love for it to return, although the only reason I'm not pushing for it as much is the potential feasibility of it. It seems that a 3D properly-sized overworld walking model would have to be made for all 718 (721?) Pokemon of Generation 6, plus whichever Pokemon that Generation 7 introduce, not to mention their shiny variants/recolors. Everything above seems a bit easier to implement (especially the Generation 3 stuff that was utilized on less-powerful hardware - the Game Boy Advance), so "Walking Pokemon" is the one feature that I could consider cutting from the development of the games, although you would have to give a really compelling reason for its removal, because IMO it's a very neat feature and a much-loved one, too.

Increased trainer customization. Seriously, more clothes, more options from the start of the game.

This. Any unisex clothing (like that Pancham hat that I've heard about, which could easily be worn by a boy or girl without much fuss) should be made available to both genders (opinions may differ on whether boys should be allowed to wear dresses and the like, though).

EDIT: Oh, and I'd love it if every Pokemon (including version-exclusives, event Pokemon, and rare legendary Pokemon) were all obtainable somehow in-game, whether by in-game trade (which should be done for ALL version-exclusives) or increased availability (GSC and HG/SS allowed all version mascots within one game; future games could've continued that feature for the legendary version mascots). Trading with other people in real life is therefore a convenience, not a necessity (since everyone doesn't live near fellow Pokemon Trainers and/or doesn't have constant Internet access).

I want everything I mentioned here: http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=312602
and for a future starter set to be based off the Norns, Verdandi, Urd, and Skuld
a Poke-egg Incubator item that would let you carry 6 eggs without them being in your main party, and also region specific holiday events.
example: Pokemon Halloween event
event unlocked only in Japan and U.S and event exclusivity will go off of which region/ language you input into your DY and X/ Y game, obviously
holiday events have holiday type pokemon in hoards- Xmas- Delibird- Halloween- Pumpkaboo, ect, and Nintendo offers a downloadable event only pokemon, with a special moveset, or shiny.

1. Anything that's come from previous gens, that was a big help or just fun in general.
2. Seasons need to return, I seriously don't know why they were given the flick in Gen 6.
3. More Eeveelutions

Imma hoping that they go Chinese (which might not be possible due to difficulties between China and Japan, but one can hope)
Maybe not Zodiac starters but Zodiac Legendaries. The number of Gen VI Legends is disappointing. 12 should be enough. Math Legendaries!!!!! Anyone? No? ;_;
China is one of the oldest cultures in the world. It makes sense to base one region off them.
I'm also waiting for kangaroo pokemon.
