Hey guys!

I recently beat Pokemon X and I decided to put a team together to try and get into competitive battling with my cousin.

I'm trying to work with the fact that I'm limited to whatever Pokemon I can get from the game since the trading service isn't up yet.

What I'm looking for: I want a team that "functions" in that I hit the basics correctly but they don't need to be 100% maximized. I don't really care about tiers since I'm mainly playing with my cousin for fun just so we can learn competitive battling together. So yes, I know I have a lot of RU and UU and an OU in here, but I chose the Pokemon I liked just to get some experience putting a team together.

Spell Cleave

Objective: Beef up Sylveon and Gengar’s SpA and just dominate the opponents with sheer force, taking advantage of Mega Gengar. Aggron will be my physical attacker, although I’m looking at other possible options. I’ll lead with a Tyranitar to set up rocks and try to counter other popular leads. I want to run baton pass with my support, Hypno, who will also provide some small defensives for my sweep.

Lead: Tyranitar @ Focus Sash
Ability: Sand Stream
Evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Speed
Nature: Hasty (+Speed, -Def)
-Crunch
-Fire Blast/Ice Beam
-Low Kick/Ice Beam
-Stealth Rock

Taken from Smogon. Guarantee a stealth rock set up w/focus sash, get an attack or two up if necessary. Tyranitar has a nice STAB with crunch so I can take care of early leaders like Espeon.

SS: Gengar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
-Shadow Ball
-Focus Blast
-Hidden Power Ice
-Thunderbolt

Taken from Smogon. I want to have mega on this. Boost up this SpA with my support, Hypno, and then sweep the team with my oversized Gengar. Thunderbolt to counter Gyarados and whatnot.

SS: Sylveon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Pixilate
Evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid
-Hyper Voice
-Moonblast
-Calm Mind
-Shadowball

Calm mind, boost my SpA if I switch out of my Gengar. Shadowball for coverage. Nothing special here, but not sure if this moveset/EV set works. I am seeing a lot of bulky Sylveons for some reason.

PS: Aggron @ Choice Band
Ability: Rock Head
Evs: 116 HP / 252 Atk / 140 Spe
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
-Head Smash
-Heavy Slam
-Earthquake
-Fire Punch

Taken from Smogon. My Aggron is meant to break walls. Just annihilate anyone with this physical sweep. I want to have Fire Punch to counter Ferrothorn since I hear that’s pretty common.

Wall: Steelix @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
Evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Relaxed (+Def, -Spe)
-Stealth Rock
-Earthquake
-Gyro Ball
-Roar

Taken from Smogon. Pretty nice wall, able to block a lot and set up stealth rocks if needed, but I think I might switch out of it since I have Tyranitar for this as well. Roar to bring out another Pokemon into battle.

Support: Hypno @ Leftovers
Ability: Insomnia
Evs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 SpD
Nature: Calm (+SpD, -Atk)
-Calm Mind
-Psychic
-Baton Pass
-Substitute

Baton passer for my team. I want to set up high SpA, pass it to my Gengar, then sweep. Have a substitute and set it up for my Gengar so that I can hide behind and avoid so much damage.

---

Any help is appreciated!

I dunno how lead Tyranitar fares in the X/Y meta:
-Crunch
-Pursuit
-Stone Edge/Rock Slide/Fire Blast
-Stealth Rock/Fire Blast
Nature: Adamant/BraveCareful/Sassy
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 SDef or 252 HP/4 Atk/252 SDef
Item: Leftovers/Assault Vest
Ability: Sand Stream

or
-Crunch
-Pursuit
-Stone Edge/Ice Beam/Fire Blast
-Earthquake/Ice Beam/Fire Blast
Nature: Jolly/Hasty
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
Item: Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream

or
-Crunch
-Pursuit
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake/Ice Fang
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 180 HP/252 Atk/76 Spe
Item: Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream

You mention Mega Gengar, yet you have regular Gengar with Choice Scarf. Wut? I'm asking this because Mega Evolutions are limited to holding their respective Mega Stones and no other items:
-Shadow Ball
-Sludge Bomb
-Focus Blast
-Destiny Bond/Taunt
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 Def/252 SAtk/252 Spe
Item: Gengarite

Choice Scarf Sylveon is terrible. It's still outsped by non-Choice Scarf opponents with 115 Speed or above with +Speed natures, like Starmie, Alakazam, Dugtrio, Greninja and Jolteon. Use defensive sets, since Sylveon is bulky and not that fast. Choice Scarf also locks you into one move while Sylveon is in battle. Hyper Voice isn't available till Poke Bank. Even if it was released now, don't use it with Moonblast, since that's redundant:
-Wish
-Protect
-Moonblast
-Shadow Ball/Hidden Power (Fire)
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Cute Charm

or
-Calm Mind
-Moonblast
-Shadow Ball
-Hidden Power (Fire)
Nature: Modest
EVs: 252 HP/252 SAtk/4 Spe
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Cute Charm

Regular Aggron is terrible because of its 4x weaknesses to Fighting and Ground. Mega Aggron does everything it can do better, but since your Mega slot is taken up, you must replace it. Hypno and Steelix are terrible in standard. The former lacks offensive presence and is outclassed by other Psychics in general. The latter is outclassed by Skarmory. Take note that this team is somewhat vulnerable to Aegislash, so replacing all three of these Pokemon are recommended. A check for Aegislash includes Wash Rotom. Better Psychic supporters are Gardevoir and Reuniclus. As mentioned before, Skarmory is a better wall than Steelix, but to add, Skarmory has a better defensive typing:

Wash Rotom:
-Volt Switch
-Hydro Pump
-Will-o-Wisp
-Rest
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SAtk
Item: Chesto Berry

or
-Discharge
-Volt Switch
-Hydro Pump
-Hidden Power (Ice)
Nature: Modest
EVs: 232 HP/56 SAtk/220 Spe
Item: Assault Vest

or
-Volt Switch
-Hydro Pump
-Hidden Power (Ice)
-Trick/Thunderbolt
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
Item: Choice Scarf/Choice Specs

Gardevoir:
-Wish
-Protect
-Will-o-Wisp
-Moonblast/Psychic
Nature: Calm
EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 SDef
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Trace

or
-Moonblast
-Focus Blast
-Shadow Ball/Psyshock/Thunderbolt
-Substitute/Taunt/Calm Mind
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
Item: Leftovers/Life Orb
Ability: Trace

or
-Reflect
-Light Screen
-Memento
-Moonblast/Taunt
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 Spe
Item: Light Clay
Ability: Trace

Reuniclus:
-Calm Mind
-Psychic/Psyshock
-Focus Blast
-Recover
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
Item: Leftovers/Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard

or
-Trick Room
-Psychic/Psyshock
-Shadow Ball/Hidden Power (Fire)
-Focus Blast
Nature: Quiet
EVs: 192 HP/64 Def/252 SAtk
Item: Life Orb/Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard

Skarmory:
-Spikes
-Whirlwind
-Roost
-Brave Bird/Taunt
Nature: Impish/Careful
EVs: 224 HP/252 Def/32 SDef or 224 HP/32 Def/252 SDef
Item: Leftovers/Shed Shell
Ability: Sturdy

Wow, thanks a lot for the help! I guess my team was further off than I thought...

As for the mega gengar thing, I forgot it had to hold a stone, lol.

Maybe I missed it, but do you have a suggestion to use instead of Aggron? I see you mentioned Rotom, did you mean to use this as a physical attacker?

Garchomp:
-Swords Dance
-Outrage/Dragon Claw

-Earthquake
-Stone Edge/Fire Fang/Fire Blast
-Dragon Claw/Dual Chop
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
Item: Choice Band/Choice Scarf

Zygarde:
-Dragon Dance
-Outrage
-Earthquake
-Extreme Speed
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 104 HP/252 Atk/152 Spe
Item: Life Orb/Lum Berry

or
-Coil
-Earthquake
-Dragon Tail/Stone Edge
-Extreme Speed
Nature: Careful
EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 SDef
Item: Leftovers

or
-Rest
-Sleep Talk
-Earthquake
-Dragon Tail
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
Item: Leftovers/Rocky Helmet
