Like the title says, i really wanted to know what do you think about the art of tattooing.
Do you like it, do you make it, do you want ink on your body? Everything that comes to your mind-share with the world.

I love tattoos, they look so beautiful (in some cases). My mom has 3, mu dad has 1, and in a few years i'm gonna do one.

What about you boys and girls of PC from the PC?

I'm pretty well acquainted with tattoos and tattooing and I can say for sure that I like'em! I don't have any myself yet (being an artist one of the rules I've made is to never tattoo my own art on myself) because I'm pretty anxious about the permanence of it-- but I fully support the idea of tattoos being considered "body art" as opposed to "body modification", although I admit they are similar in many ways.

I'll update this with good pics later. There's a style of tattooing, whose name escapes me, in which the body is literally treated as a canvas. Keeping the body's forms, natural shapes, and color pallet in the forefront while tattooing to enhance it as opposed to the tattooing for the sake of the subject itself.

I believe tattoos represent a story. A story of a hardship, happiness, depression, an obstacle etc.
When im 18, I'm getting on my back a pair of wings from shoulder blade to shoulder blade to represent that I am free as a person to express myself openly.
When my mother passes away, im getting a tattoo of Woodstock and Snoopy from the Peanuts gang, (the comic) dancing. Its my mama's favourite comic, and it would honor her.

I'm neutral about tattooing. Although I really like some of the ideas people can come up for tattoo designs that can either transform the bare skin into a work or art or can just serve to be some sort of significance to the person, it is not my desire to get one in the future as a) I've seen lots of tattoos gone horribly wrong and I won't want the possibility of that happening to me, b) I'm not too confident about the hygiene of the needles used to do the job, c) my religion doesn't exactly encourage it, and d) I have a phobia of needles that pierce the skin. Sure, there are ways to remove such tattoos described in a), but I feel that it's not worth all the pain if you're just going to laser away all that money down the drain. In terms of expressing oneself, there are a million other ways to do just that besides tattooing. Just take a look around, the world is a huge place. I have no objections nor am prejudiced against other people tattooing though, with exceptions to my brother and my future children. It's their body and they can do whatever they want with it. This is just my opinion.

I don't think I would ever get one myself just because of the very permanent-ness of tattoos also I'm squeamish and don't have a high pain tolerance, but I do admire really well done pieces. My brother sells tattoo machines and equipment so I occasionally see tattoo magazines lying around, and I always love flipping through them. :D

Also, one of my favorite artists of dA (grimmy3d) does tattoos for a living, and his work is just amazing:

Spoiler:

If I ever, ever get a tattoo, I'd fly to Russia to get one from him.

WOW these are great tattoos!

When i'm 18 im gonna do a feather piercing a heart and dripping ink out of the other side downwards, spelling :" No word can break me". I really want that reminder on my body so that i'll always remember how i stood on my own against some very very bad people.

i, personally, will never get a tattoo, piercings or plastic surgery. but i don't mind if others do it, its their bodys, if they want to modify it go right ahead. none of those modifications matter much once your dead, except to grave robbers who want to steal your jewelry. of course every one of these things come with a risk, my sister got her nose pierced just to later get her nose broken from some kid who just out right punched her in the face upfront of a teacher. of course the little rodent got off without any punishment. later on he tried to punch me in the face, but soon realized he was to weak to do any damage & soon ran like hell screaming for his mom after looking in my eyes and realizing i had the look of someone ready to kill, i was not in a good mood that day, but sending off some spoiled little brat screaming in fear felt good.

I personally love tattoos. Was going to get my first tattoo last month but had to postpone the appointment due to certain events that took place.
For myself tattoos are a way of expressing fear, joy, and your own personal message towards the people around you.

I'm sorry to hear what happened to your sister. Good to hear that you sent the guy off crying.
But, are you saying the kid did it BECAUSE of the nose piercing? That's pretty messed up.

I rather like the art of Irezumi : Or the art of Japanese traditional tattooing.

Irezumi (入れ墨, 入墨, 紋身, 刺花, 剳青, 黥 or 刺青) is a Japanese word that refers to the insertion of ink under the skin to leave a permanent, usually decorative mark; a form of tattooing.

The word can be written in several ways, each with slightly different connotations. The most common way of writing irezumi is with the Chinese characters 入れ墨 or 入墨, literally meaning to "insert ink". The characters 紋身 (also pronounced bunshin) suggest "decorating the body". 剳青 is more esoteric, being written with the characters for "stay" or "remain" and "blue" or "green", and probably refers to the appearance of the main shading ink under the skin. 黥 (meaning "tattooing") is rarely used, and the characters 刺青 combine the meanings "pierce", "stab", or "prick", and "blue" or "green", referring to the traditional Japanese method of tattooing by hand.
mild nudity, please be adult
Spoiler:

I mean, look at the sheer level of detail and form. Each tattoo, although I'm sure selected by the client, is so uniquely formed of their specific body type. They're presented so incredibly well.

That said, I think my favorite style is going going to be pinup. Some pinup tattoos out there are just seriously amazing.
Spoiler:

Just look at that. Mmm.

I like tattoos on other people. Well, not all tattoos look all that great, but there is someone in my class that was a tattoo artist and he has some really cool tattoos. Not to mention he draws incredibly well.

If I ever get a tattoo (which is highly unlikely), it will probably be something totally lame like a music note or something. I don't know, it depends on the artist really, but I guess a music note tattoo could look pretty cool. I doubt I would ever get it, but it's just a thought.

My father is a tattoo artist so I have a lot of respect for well done tattoos! I'm not a fan of people who just get cheap tattoos to impress their friends, but for those who have well thought out I love to see them! I have a tattoo myself in an indecent place :P

I think a few tattoos can be beautiful. I want a tattoo on my back some day, but I have a feeling I'm a bit too much of a weakling to stand the pain. I don't really like excessive tattooing all over the body or even arms, and I would never want a tattoo on my face.

I love ink! Not just some "oh I got it at a party" tattoo, but a well thought out, well done piece of art. You don't get tattoos for anyone else, you get them for YOU. It IS permanent, so it's gotta mean something to you. You don't get a tattoo just for the sake of having a tattoo. I don't think someone should get them on their face or neck, I've known some bank presidents who are COVERED in ink and you'd never know it because of their professional clothing. Again, you get them for YOU. My back is covered, my left calf has a piece, and I have one on my bikini line. I'm gonna start a half sleeve next month!

These are my thoughts exactly.

To add to that, while some tattoos may look okay now (depends on quality/size/location etc.) I have never seen a "good looking" tattoo on an older person. Skin naturally wrinkles/stretches over time and what may have been a nice design before almost always gets distorted. The result is an unattractive mess of permanent ink that by definition isn't salvageable unless you lasered it off.

They look sexy if done right. But they don't suit everybody. Those whose looks are complimented by tattoos are rare. And it is even rarer to find someone whose tattoos' art is so good that it makes my jaw drop. Personally think they're not worth all the pain and shizz. But I won't judge you if you get it on yo bod. If it looks crap on you then I'll straight away say it, though. :p

Either way, here's one pic that I've fallen in love with (i love it so much im just using this topic to show off the image omg so freakin beautiful). And it is mostly due to the body art (and the surrounding designs but that's another story). It is an anime character, btw, and not a real person. But the body art there is still pretty amazing. Oh and it is slightly nsfw.

Spoiler:

Seriously, I dislike it when people get tattoos to have silly, generic designs, or cute things like some heart shaped stuff or meaningless things like that. If you're gonna get a tattoo, I'd like to look at it if it is aesthetically appealing to me. Should be creative and visually striking.

I like ink when it's an expression of self, or when it's artistic. People spend too much time attaching meaning to the tattoo they get, everyone says "oh I want one that means something to me", then end up hating it 5 years later. My advice is to just get something that you like, or something you like the look of. It doesn't need to be completely original, but if you can have something unique, then it's more likely that you're going to feel proud of it in the long run. At the end of the day, it's an art, and as with art, there's good pieces and bad pieces; just make sure you have a piece you're happy with before you commit a percentage of your body to it for the rest of your life.

A while back I was playing with the idea of getting a tattoo. I still kind of am, but it's less at the forefront of my mind now. I was going to get a particular set of initials and a matching set of dates that are really important to me - it's not like it's something that I think I'd regret getting or something that'd lose its meaning to me - but I've not really had the balls yet to make a permanent mark on myself, honestly. Plus I don't know exactly where I'd have it or how it'd look... other than not somewhere too obvious in case I decide I don't like it after all so at least it's not always on show. I also don't know if one would suit me and nnnnnnn, hesitations, haha. I think I will get one done eventually though.
