What up y'all!

I know I'm a bit ambitious with the title, but check it. I now have a tight

Mega Gengar
@Timid
Lv 100 (Sp.A 252/Speed 252/6HP)
31 in all Iv's except attack.

Shadow Ball
Thunderbolt
Dazzling Gleam
Sludge Bomb

I have heard about the Sub/Disable combo, but since this is a mega gengar and
not a Gengar, I think this moveset is good. What do y'all think?

My question is; since I aint makin (mega) Gengar my lead, (because of it's shadow tag
ability), what PKMN should I make my lead? When answering this question, consider Mega's typing.
Resistance; fairy, grass, poison and bug
Immunity; fighting and normal (no ground no more due to the lack of levitate)

Help me y'all; and I'd preciate it!

A third PKMN as well, nah mean?

Franco!

First of all, what is this team for? Is it for Ubers, OU, or what? Second of all, what's the goal of your team? Is it to stall (kind of doubt that one with Mega-Gengar), to eliminate a bunch of counters so one pokemon can sweep, all out attacking? You can't just come in here, say you want the most powerful team in the world, give us one pokemon, and expect us to do all the work. You have to give us something to work off of.

put Focus Blast on Mega Gar over Dazzling Gleam

i reccomend pairing it with a DD Dragon possibly, since mega gar can trap most physical walls, namely fairies, skarmory, etc, quagsire gets hit really hard too

shift gear life orb genesect with espeed/blaze kick/iron head goes really well with gengar too, once you can trap and weaken quagsire/heatran nothing really stops this guy

paired to kaori & vrai

Agreeing to this. Dragons are hit hard by Shadow Ball anyways. Mega Gengar also has Taunt to screw over walls and Destiny Bond to take down an opponent with it. In short:
-Shadow Ball
-Sludge Bomb
-Focus Blast
-Taunt/Destiny Bond
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 Def/252 SAtk/252 Spe
Item: Gengarite

Also, Genesect isn't available till Poke Bank. Teammates that deal with Aegislash are ideal, like Garchomp and Zygarde.

Eh, I think that Dazzling Gleam is still worth consideration. It hits Dark types super-effectively too (and Steels no longer resist Shadow Ball), and is much more accurate than Focus Miss.

Ah, I now see that Gengarite is banned...

I would like to use Gengar, but I don't have the egg moves required for it to be effective (I believe it is perish song and disable).

Do any of y'all have suggestions of what I can do with this gengar? Is it useless without disable and perish song? I mean, I got substitute.

It's an OU team btw, eventually with a combination of stall and sweep.

Regular Gengar is more than capable of performing in the OU tier. Try out this set:
Gengar @ Life Orb/Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Sludge Bomb
- Substitute

In fact, I've never seen a Gengar with Perish Song before in competitive play. Maybe someone can come over and improve my set here, but I think this is a pretty good offensive one. Gengar was in OU before Gengarite came along, so it definitely can hold its own.

I don't think Gengar can get Perish Song. I think he meant Destiny Bond. To add on to your Gengar set, you could have /Dazzling Gleam after Focus Blast.

they call me gengar because i eat mcs dreams

OP i really suggest drawing up a blueprint of a full team and then we can help fix it from there
I second this.

Perish Song is an egg move from Misdreavus, which isn't available until Poke Bank is released.

Ah, right. But does Gengar really have any use for Perish Song? I figure there isn't much reason to use it since Gengar gets Destiny Bond. And I have never seen a Gengar running Perish Song either.

What happened to the Below The Heavens avatar? That album is a classic!

I aint entirely sure of what I want in my team; but as for Gengar, and what smogon suggests; the "only" options (for Gengar to be optimal) are these;

Substitue
Shadow Ball
Focus Blast
Hidden Power Fire

Problem is; I aint got hidden power fire.

Option 2: Choice scarf

Shadow Ball
Focus Blast
Hidden Power Ice
Trick/Thunderbolt

This is currently what I got (minus Hidden Power Ice) and what I plan to keep. Only thing is; such a diverse movepool and Choice Scarf? I aint see no benefit in that...? There's got to be something Im missing?

Plus; what should I switch with Hidden Power Ice? Dazzling Gleam?

Smogon sets are more like guidelines for beginning players to go off of. Don't feel like because you're not using a set that they mention, the pokemon is no good. Besides, Smogon doesn't have their gen 6 analysis out yet. The ones you're reading was meant for gen 5. ;)

Gengar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast / Dazzling Gleam
- Sludge Bomb
- Substitute

I still think this is one of your best bets right now. This set is guaranteed to hit hard. I took away the Life Orb option from the last set because I feel like with Substitute and Life orb, Gangar would be losing way too much health for it to be useful. Dazzling Gleam can be replaced for Focus Blast because Focus Blast is so inaccurate, but you do lose a bit of coverage.

As far as teammates go, try to think what counters Gengar. If you can come up with a list of what pokemon Gengar can't take down, then you can decide what teammates to have to cover those weaknesses. Once you have a full team, we would be happy to help.

Gengar can also use Sludge Bomb to deal with Fairies. Note that Trick isn't available until Poke Bank, due to being a Platinum/HeartGold/SoulSilver/Black 2/White 2 tutor move:
-Shadow Ball
-Sludge Bomb
-Focus Blast/Hidden Power (Fire)
-Substitute/Protect
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 Def/252 SAtk/252 Spe
Item: Black Sludge/Life Orb

or
-Shadow Ball
-Sludge Bomb
-Focus Blast
-Hidden Power (Ice)/Dazzling Gleam
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 Def/252 SAtk/252 Spe
Item: Choice Scarf

Also, having your whole team on here would be appreciated.

What if I replace substitute with Thunderbolt? Gyarados and other water threats can easily be taken down (with exception of mons like swampert and etc). Bro, I aint seeing the function of substitute. I know what it does, but without disable, I aint really seein its place.

It became Travi$ Scott now, rip Blu

Anyways if you're worried about Gyarados, consider using standard Rotom-W as a member of your team. It bets non-mega Gyarados [and can still potentially cripple the mega with a powerful electric attack or will o wisp] in addition to handling a lot of stuff in this metagame, such as Talonflame, Aegislash, even Genesect 1 on 1.

Fair enough. If you do replace substitute with thunderbolt, that would still work. If you do, then I would go ahead with the life orb instead of black sludge because Gengar is pretty frail, but with that life orb, it will hit like a freight train.

We're not going to build your team for you, but you can definitely suggest pokemon to add and we'll help you decide if it's right for you, or what set to use. This is your team after all, not ours, so it only makes sense that you build it. Don't worry, we'll be right here if you run into trouble.

Okay. Scizor, Metagross, Tyranitar (Pursuit) and Blissey are the best counters to Gengar.

Gyara whoops Scizor (can someone tell me why? I aint see it), Lucario (or Conkeldurr) takes Blissey and Tyranitar. Is there someone else Lucario covers at the same time, because of it's steel typing? Someone who's is super against Gengar that is.

Metagross is a tough nut to brake; but a fire type (or an earth type) will do, I guess.

And last, but not least, we have the supereffective types. I'll have to come back to these.

gyara doesnt give a ...yea... about any of scizors stab moves :] 2hko with 252 lo jolly waterfall.

btw any strong dark/ghost can kill metagross p easy, since dark/ghost can hit steel neutrally now.

What do you mean "gyara doesn't give a"? It counters well aint it?

Ok, I thought about Lucario as a counter to T-Tar (other dark types), but Lucario has to go since T-tar can hit neutrally now. Another fighting type then. Any suggestions? Conkeldurr probably isn't the best option because of it's low speed. Two in a row aint good!

And T-tar for Metagross then!

regular gyarados resists both of scizors stabs and superpower if it does run it. if scizor decides to stay in, well then, it can only expect a 2hko with 252 attack investment and life orb.

and for a fighting type, perhaps mega medicham? mienshao, breloom and hawlucha are notable fighting types too.

Gotcha! Edit; I have seen some users use Mega Medicham, and the responses have been positive. But since it is a bit on the slow side (base 100 in speed is slow for a mega), its gonna have a hard time switching in for Gengar, especially with mediocre defences. Good suggestion tho, for sure!

I dont know about Hawlucha. Mienshao seems too frail for my taste, but I have actually considered him. Nice suggestions; think Ima check those out once more.

machamp has no guard dynamicpunch, i know its tempting, but without scarf its rly slow D: mienshao is versatile and has regenerator + u-turn, which makes a good combo :]

and hawlucha is p decent, altho lacking flying gem acrobatics :p do note that all three get high jump kick, a rly powerful fighting type attack, but can be a pain in the arse if it misses D:
