I didn't go to prom. Didn't like it, didn't enjoy it. however I soo regret it now. My friends tell me on all the fun I had missed out on ;-;

I also had a ton of work to do. I do a lot of my work late, so I guess I didn't really deserve to go, haha

It's basically another ploy that our school systems have to swindle us out of more of our money.

Essentially it's just a very formal dance. Men wear tuxedos and girls wear long galant dresses, and usually the school will rent out a ballroom or something fancy like that to host the event. High schoolers will sometimes go the event in a limo and dates will usually exchange flowers or corsages with one another. Also, prom's usually host a dinner there as well. But that's basically the only formal thing about it. Other than that it's still mostly a sweaty, loudly bumpin' music grind-fest that high schools host.
In USA, I guess. In my town in Sweden, it's a very VERY formal thing we practice dancing for for months together with our chosen partner before the event. We start the dance practices every sunday or wednesday (we're often hungover) in January or so, and the dance is in June. The big day, a prom commitée, traditionally composed of some high school students, rent the big sports arena in the city and we perform a long dance to different songs, in formations and sorted by dress colors and whatnot. After that, we go in fancy cars to the biggest park in town to eat strawberries and have champagne, it's wonderful, and then we sort of dance in a long line into town where all hundreds of prom goers have a huge, fancy dinner party. During which everyone gets madly drunk and blissfully crazy. And then it's a party, at every club downtown you'll see fancy dresses. It's wonderful. When you are one of them. When you get older, it's just silly, haha. And memories.

....why couldn't I live in Sweden, your prom is classier and more fun than our countries.... ;___;

That sounds roughly 80% more awesome than our prom here.

Course for ours, you go to the dance set up by the school, and then I think to a nearby park, and then head home at the end of the night. I didn't go to prom, only heard about it, but some of my friends told me that aside from enjoying the company of whoever they went with, that it wasn't all that extravagant.

Yeah; I didn't go to my prom either and really don't regret it either. It came at a certain time of my life that I was growing more mature and away from my group of "friends" and I know I wouldn't have enjoyed it if I went. Completely fine with me though, and I felt I made the right decision :3

I guess in Sweden prom is when you are much older- as you mentioned having champagne? I entered University when I was 17-18 years old and so prom happened when I was 17- the legal drinking age in most of Canada is 19. Just something curious I noted just now.

The only school dance I went to was my senior prom. It was a dance, nothing special. I only went to say that I went in the future. I could've skipped it and been just fine. Can't dance anyway.

My mom made my dress. It looked OK until she added this crochet band under my breastline. Grated, going in a homemade dress was bad enough, but on the other hand, I didn't want to go dress shopping.

Ah, poor life choices. Gotta love 'em. 8)

I went to junior and senior prom. Junior prom was fun. I had an amazing night. Senior, however was a disaster. This boy I liked for quite awhile didn't want to speak to me when he got a girlfriend that dumped him before the event, and was upset because I went with my best friend. Ugh, dramaaaa.

I think the last school dance I went to was in middle school? I'm not really sure since it's been so long.
I stayed home playing Counter-Strike with some friends instead of going to prom and still don't regret it to this day.

Never been a fan of school dances such as homecoming and prom.
Why did I read that as "porn", why?

Yeah, it's mainly for the ones graduating from "high school" or gymnasium as the somewhat same thing is called here. You're most often 19 when you graduate, or at least turning 19 that year. And the legal drinking age is 18. Then, some people take younger friends to be their dancing partners, but I guess they have to be sober at the sitting in the evening. Nobody really looks in the park with the champagne though, despite parents swarming 8) Or so I hope, hrrm.

Skimming through everything quickly I read any "prom" as "porn"; my subconsciousness is a lewd thing...

It seems a lot of people have this issue. Perhaps it says something about us as a community.

I went to my graduation-ball alone, stood awkwardly in the corner for most of it and then went and crashed a house-party down the street.

Ball-gowns are the worst. From now on I'm wearing a full-suit instead of a gown at all opportunities.
Suits are bad-ass.

Proms are lame. Then again I'm rather antisocial pfbbbffft. Only prom I attended was my 5th grade one, every other one was just "forget it" in my head. xD;

The main driver in me going to both the homecoming dance my senior year and my senior prom was my girlfriend, and we both wanted to go to have a good time. I'm sure though that it would have been different about prom if I was single then, but maybe not so much homecoming.

There's more than a few girls right now that would die to go to prom or the military ball with me, being the single stud I am. Unfortunately there's only one girl I feel it'd be right to go with, and she's moved away, soooo... wait a tick. That means I'm going single! Oh behave!~ >:D

Meanwhile I saw something pretty awesome
"Oscar for DiCaprio"
That was awesome! But in all seriousness, he should win an Oscar for "The Wolf of Wall Street." That movie was amazing and he did an excellent job as his character.

Probably the most misused word in the Pokecommunity.
And of course it's probably improperly defined on urban dictionary as well. Of course the correct term is asocial.

Most of the time yes, but UD's definition of Antisocial is very accurate.

Antisocial doesn't mean you're shy or don't talk to people much guys. That's what's called "Asocial".
