What do you generally feel about lending and borrowing money from friends and family? Are you the one who always seems to be handing out notes to loved ones like it's going out of fashion, or is it you who's always asking for a couple of quid because you "forgot your change"?

I often ask my mum if she can lend me a few dollars if I don't have my wallet on me. I always pay her back though. Oddly enough, I feel slightly uneasy doing the same in return for say...friends, because I'm scared I'll be forced into that awkward situation where you never end up getting paid back because your friends keep putting it off and use your friendship as a way of getting out of paying you.

I can never bring myself to borrow money from anyone. And if I do, I end up feeling really uncomfortable and I just need to pay off my debt as soon as I possibly can.

When I lend out money, I operate on a 'I trust you to pay this back at some point because I'll forget you owe me this in a few days.' I'm forgetful but thankfully nobody who has borrowed money from me has taken advantage of that yet.

Those situations are awkward, yes. Sometimes, you aren't even sure if they really forgot about the money they owe or if they are deliberately forgetting. And asking just seems... out of the question at the moment. Or that could just be me.

I hate asking people for money, but sometimes when I feel no other option is available, then I resort to that. Though when people lend money to me, I often feel a sense of debt to them far greater and more intimate than a financial one. On the other hand, I love giving money (if I can afford to) to people who need it and are people involved in my life. It makes me feel good to help the people I care about.

I don't borrow money to people, only to those I KNOW they're going to pay me back, like my girlfriend. I always use my debit since i don't really like having bills with me, so whenever in rare occasions we go into a place where they accept cash only, I'd ask my girlfriend to pay and then we'd go into the bank so I can give her the money she paid for me asap.

One time, my friend lost my mp3 player when he was 12 years old. He said he was gonna pay me back since he lost it... he's now turning 22 and he only paid me back 10$ >>

It is one of my principles in life to borrow as little money as possible from people and so far I've gone pretty well (bearing in mind I'm only 15). On the contrary, I often lend people money (we're talking small change here lol) and never get paid back!

I never ask to borrow money from friends, because it's rude to ask for money from them, especially if you promise to pay it back, but wind up forgetting about it. I do however ask my parents for gas money because I do drive, my car has a small gas tank and I'm unemployed still.

I try not to ask to borrow money at all now, even from family, if I can help it. Don't feel comfortable doing so and I usually keep forgetting to pay them back. :X

I don't mind lending money out to people I know, though. At least if it's a small amount of money, since if I don't get paid back then oh well. Haven't been asked for a large amount so I'm not sure how I'd like that.

I lend money out all the time and rarely get it back in a timely fashion if at all lol. If it's just sitting there and can help people, what good is it doing me?

I ask my parents for money sometimes, but only from them and no one else. They usually will lend me some money. I am currently unemployed, so every little bit helps. I hate to ask them for money, but I kind of resort to it. I'm a unemployed college kid.

Hate borrowing, love lending. I know what it feels like to be in need sometimes and I like to help people out. And if after a gentle reminder they don't give it back (don't see it as awkward as its my money), I just won't lend to them again if they ask.

Obviously larger sums of money should only be lent to people you know will pay you back.

Money money money, I used to love money and wanted more!! Now I could care less about money, as long as I have enough to survive an do things tat I want to do I could care less about the rest of it. I'll lend little amounts to my friend but I normally won't get it back.

I feel eternally grateful to my family for always providing me with money every 2 weeks; I still get a decent allowance even though I'm 20 and probably should be working ;___; In that respect, I feel really bad for having to depend on them so much. In return, I try not to go shopping too much and place myself under house arrest XD In regards to friends, I'm more than happy to cover for them should they not have enough money or have "forgotten" their wallet. I just don't want to feel like a burden to others.

I feel weird asking for money from my parents, but if I need it I do it. I still love under their roof so they are still their to support me. Friends on the other hand. They are broke, I never can ask them for money, but I feel just fine asking. I just know the answer beforehand.

I used to, but ever since my senior year in high school. I've flat out refused to accept cash from another person who wasn't my parents. I don't like to put myself in debt of other people, especially financially. Now that I have a paying job, I'm even hesitant to accept money from my parents. That being said, I have no qualms lending money, so long as I believe I will be repaid eventually. And even then, sometimes I don't mind blowing money on other people.

I can be very hesitant when it comes to asking for money (especially from strangers) cause I feel like I'm annoying them and mooching of them. But I do it if it's the last resort. For example, last Friday I had to ask a guy for bus money cause I could find my bus transfer. Then I found it after he gave it to me. Fortunately he let me keep it in case. Then I found out the transfer was already too old to use so I had to use the money anyway and I felt so bad during the whole ride home. >.> My dad doesn't really like me asking for money unless I really need it for something important. He really wants me to rely on my own money for things. As for giving people money, if I have it, I will give it to them, but only if they pay me back.
