Quick time events. Short scenarios that require a sequence of button presses, in a set amount of time. They could be anything from simple tapping to having to hold multiple in a time...

I kind of have a love/hate relationship with them: they tend to add more interactivity to cinematics if they're introduced into them, but they can also be rather surprising. If you're in the middle of a cutscene, chilling after a long mission or something, you usually expect to just..be watching a cutscene. If a QTE surprises you out of nowhere, you wouldn't expect it, and you would be caught by surprise.

So what are your opinions on quick time events? Do you approve or disapprove of them being in modern day video games? Discuss :).

For me to enjoy QuickTime events 3 things need to be employed as well.

1. Enough time for me understand that we're starting QTEs. (No RE4)

2. Failing an event should not cause your death and if you die via an event it should not start you at the beginning of the boss fight or battle.

3. I prefer that only the four main buttons and the analog stick or digital pad are used. None of that shoulder button crap.

With these things I can enjoy a game with QTE or even one that centers its plot around them.(Spider-Man 3)

Hm, I loved the quick time events in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Not that that warranted button mashing, which I find myself doing often times no matter the game, but it was a nice touch to scenes instead of having players sit there and watch.

I had some in Walking Dead and I must say I pretty much liked them =)
As for button mashing alone... depends on how my fingers are tired =D
