More recently in the news, the Democratic Republic of Korea (which in reality is neither democratic or a republic) has made many echoes to the world bearing threats of mass destruction, damnation and such.

The question to be asked, though, is what you think of Korea's announcements and declarations of war. Do you think it's a bunch of feather flaunting, or do you believe it could possibly bear truth? Discuss!

They've been making empty threats for decades. If they were truly serious about their attempts to "obliterate" us, they would've at least attempted so way before today.

There have been attempts to reform and make up for the past, but we went to square one after North Korea shot a tourist visiting Diamond Mountains (Mt. Kumkang) in 2008 after North Korean soldiers adjudged that she was off the bounds of where she was allowed to be in.

In fact there have been several minor skirmishes between us already including 2010 ROKS Cheonan sinking and 2011 Yeonpyeong island bombing, which were no major incidents in the long run, no more major than the incident I had briefly talked about earlier. North Korea is on the belligerent side for sure, but judging by what they have actually done so far, I don't believe they will actually carry out their "ultimatum" in the near future.

I wrote this in a similar thread not too long ago:

...I think anyone serious about taking action wouldn't offer preemptive warnings about it. That said, sometimes I wonder, with NK being as closed off as it is and all...how much of our intel is actually verifiable? What if all of this is really a very clever ruse to make the rest of us underestimate NK?

Seems doubtful but you never know, the whole nation is one big question mark, isn't it?

Personally, I don't read news to begin with, but my sister tells me about the stories regarding North Korea. I believe their empty threats are simply a way of exercising their power and showing to the world that they are capable of being dangerous to the world population, unless they get what they want. Attempting to look at this issue from their perspective, I'd probably be thinking along the lines of how the country is geographically small, politically limited, but can use nuclear weapons to present a type of power statement.

North Korea is known for just threatening but not doing. My country is more of a threat to Americans during the Cold War than North Korea ever was. The military in North Korea has extremely outdated equipments. Their weapons are the same as those used in African militaries. Their nuclear missiles is nothing compare to our missiles. We have nuclear weapons with 100x the range of theirs. Also if there will be war, North Koreans are heavily in a dissatvantage. They lack body armor, have extremely inaccurate Type 56 assault rifles and various outdated machine guns. They also have tanks and aircrafts of Vietnam war era.
T-55, T-54, Mig-15, Mig-21, and Su-23 is not good against modern country. North Korea might have a chance against African and Southeast Asian countries, but no chance against America, South Korea, or even China. North Korea is just another African like country with nuclear capabilities.

I guess many people today would be fainting if they were put in Cold War era. Just one weak country and everyone gets scared.

They like trying to scare us. It's what they've done for decades.

However, it could be very likely that one of these days we are going to think it's an empty threat and end up regretting it.
Good thing they aren't threatening Russia. But if Japan really gets attack no good. Since I'm currently studying in America, I don't want attacks to happen in America, guess Ill be safe once I'm back to Russia after I'm done with my education here.

I'm pretty sure North Korea is more scared of West than West scared of North Korea. So chance of attacks from North Korea is low. They know they will lose their country if they start an attack. Just like how my country never attacked America even though we have a powerful military at the time. So very unlikely.
