FireRed Mono-Flying Run
UPDATE #4 - COMPLETE!

PROGRESS:
Spoiler:
  • Spent too much time trying to catch a Scyther in the Safari Zone and eventually caught Janus. Switched him into the team in Pippin's position.
  • Had a bit of a less annoying time catching Tino the Dratini (fishing = no steps). Switched him with Karpadia the Gyarados.
  • Had a pretty easy time with Koga, thanks again Arthur the Butterfree (Sleep Powder + Dream Eater FTW).
  • Switched Janus back out with Pippin (was excited to use a Scyther but...meh...the moveset wasn't exciting me much this gen). Explored the so-far unexplored routes and Pippin evolved into Pidgeot, Tino evolved into Dragonair, and Charla evolved into Charizard (one step closer to a truly-authentic mono-Flying team!).
  • Taught Tino Surf and started the Water Routes. Caught Articuno in the Seafoam Islands.
  • Took that Old Amber and made it Aeon the Aerodactyl. After a bit of an emotional struggle, I box'd my first caught Pokemon, Pippin, for good, and welcomed Aeon to the team.
  • Went through the Pokemon Mansion. Had a pretty tough time, actually. I had to run back to the Pokemon Center a few times.
  • Blaine wasn't so bad, and for the first time in a long time Arthur was not my Gym Leader MVP. Aeon's Ancient Power and Sharpy's Tri Attack more or less led me to victory (even though not being Flying gives no type advantage in this battle, I decided not to use my Dragonair).
  • Backtracked to the Power Plant and caught myself a Zapdos.
  • Did the little Sevii Islands sidequest and caught Moltres on Mt. Ember.
  • Said hi to Mom and then went to fight Giovanni. Again I didn't use my Surfing Dragonair, but having an entire team that's immune to Ground moves made for a pretty easy fight. Arthur the Butterfree took out the Nido family, and Gotham's Giga Drain and Sharpy's Steel Wing and Tri Attack basically took care of the rest.
  • Fought Blue with no real trouble.
  • Victory Road was a beast! I temporarily swapped out Gotham for Karpadia (who had become my Strength slave). Tino saw most of the action here so he'd evolve into Dragonite, which he did. It left him quite a bit higher leveled than some other Pokes on my team, but I decided against grinding with all my other Pokemon to get them close to my already pseudo-OP'd one's level.
  • Lorelei may have been the toughest battle of the challenge for me. Aeon and Charla could handle the ice but not the water. Tino could use Thunderbolt but was destroyed by ice. It was a combination of those three (plus a little bit of my Butterfree's Silver Wind on Slowbro) that ended up winning the battle though.
  • Bruno was no trouble. Air Cutter from Gotham, Drill Peck from Sharpy, and Sleep Powder + Dream Eater from Arthur brought me to victory.
  • Agatha wasn't so bad either. I mostly used Sharpy's Drill Peck (staying immune from any Ghost moves) and switched out for Arthur's Dream Eater action to take on Golbat and Arbok.
  • Lance was no pushover. Gyarados went down easily enough with a Thunderbolt from Tino (yay 4x damage). Charizard made pretty good work of the two Dragonair with Dragon Claw. His Aerodactyl about destroyed me though...no Gen 1 Flying Pokemon have any protection against Rock damage. It was actually my own Aerodactyl, Aeon, that ended up doing him in with a Rock Slide. Another Rock Slide and a Surf and Thunderbolt from Tino took Lance's Dragonite down.
  • Blue was definitely out for revenge after I destroyed him so much throughout the game. I thought Aeon vs. his Pidgeot would end quickly, but Blue did the oh-so-rare in-game trainer switch out and brought in Rhyhorn, who took out Aeon, Gotham (thought I get get a good Mega Drain in), and Sharpy (was going for Steel Wing) with Rock Tomb OHKOs. Yikes. Finally got over being cocky and thinking I could take it down with lesser Pokes, and brought in Tino who took out Rhyhorn with Surf and Pidgeot and Blastoise with a few Thunderbolts. Alakazam was one tough cookie, but Arthur took him out with Sleep Powder and his newly-learned Silver Wind. Exeggutor (despite having a type disadvantage against Flying) actually put up a good fight, but another Silver Wind and then Flamethrowers from Charla did him in eventually. Blue's Arcanine was left for last and didn't stand a chance against Tino and Surf.

TEAM:
Spoiler:
Aeon (lvl 46)
Adamant Aerodactyl ♂ (Rock Head)
Rock Slide, Double-Edge, Fly, Supersonic

Gotham (lvl 45)
Rash Golbat ♂ (Inner Focus)
Air Cutter, Bite, Giga Drain, Confuse Ray

Sharpy (lvl 49)
Serious Dodrio ♀ (Run Away)
Drill Peck, Tri Attack, Steel Wing, Pursuit

Arthur (lvl 47)
Adamant Butterfree ♂ (Compound Eyes)
Sleep Powder, Dream Eater, Silver Wind, Poison Powder

Charla (lvl 46)
Calm Charizard ♀ (Blaze)
Flamethrower, Dragon Claw, Brick Break, Smokescreen

Tino (lvl 56)
Serious Dragonite ♂ (Inner Focus)
Surf, Thunderbolt, Earthquake, Safeguard

In Box:

I'm sure pretty soon here I'll announce and start up my next challenge. I'm wanting to go ahead and go for mono-Flying Ultimate, but still haven't picked my games. Originally I was thinking I'd do Crystal (all the Gen 2 Flying types are available) and Sapphire next, but going back and replaying FireRed has really made me appreciate the mechanics updates since Gen 4, specifically those relating to moves being physical or special. So it looks like I may be doing SoulSilver next, followed by Platinum (and I guess I'll have to get myself Alpha Sapphire!). I'm planning on only using Pokemon that were introduced in the region of the game I'm playing (no more Dragonite, Gyarados, Charizard, etc. for me!) so I imagine most other regions will be significantly harder than Kanto when it comes to mono-Flying runs. I guess we shall see!

SoulSilver Mono-Flying Run
UPDATE #1

PROGRESS:
Spoiler:
  • Chose Chikorita as my starter, and named him Chiko (yes, very original). Choose Totodile to have a type advantage over Silver's starter seemed cheap, so I figured I'd give myself the biggest challenge.
  • Did all the tutorial-y things, beat Silver and his Cyndaquil and as soon as I got access to Pokeballs, I caught myself Luna the Hoothoot on Route 29 and Box'd Chiko.
  • The next morning, I caught a Ledyba on Route 31 and named her Ruby.
  • Caught a Pidgey who I named Pippa on Route 30 and promptly sent her to the Box (avoiding Gen 1-originating Pokemon for this run - they served me well but their time is done.
  • Caught a Zubat in the Dark Cave and named her Kjula (didn't go to the box, because she's got a Gen 2 third evolution I've yet to use).
  • Made it to Violet City and admittedly had a pretty tough time with Falkner. It's becoming very real now that Gen 2 Flying types are gonna be weak for awhile. No Butterfree to wipe everything with Confusion early on, and really nothing on-par with Charizard, Gyarados, Aerodactyl, or Dragonite is gonna show up in the near future.
  • Went to do (just a little) grinding on Route 32 and caught Dandy the (useless for this gym) Hoppip while I was there. Taught Uproar to Luna, went back to Falkner and finally beat him.
  • Headed toward Azalea town and caught a promptly box'd Magikarp and Spearow in Union Cave and on Route 33, respectively.
  • I'm embarrassed to say Bugsy gave me an even harder time - and I have a type advantage! His Scyther was just way stronger than my guys. But with some good luck and some Wing Attacks from Kjula, he went down.
  • That Egg I got in Tutorial-land hatched into a Togepi (who I named Moga). The "rule" I'm setting for myself (at least now) is that Togetic can be used in this run but Togekiss can't (Togekiss will be allowed for my Platinum run)...same applies for Murkrow/Honchrow, Gligar/Gliscor, Yanma/Yanmega, etc. I'm going to hold of using them for now as I think they may be pretty valuable to my Platinum team and I don't really want to repeat Pokes (Golbat/Crobat is a bit of an exception since so much changed mechanically between Gens 3 & 4.
  • Taught Rock Smash to Moga and Cut to Chiko and headed through Ilex Forest and Route 34.
  • Ruby evolved into Ledian, and Dandy evolved into Skiploom.
  • Arrived in Goldenrod City.

Small update for my monograss run :]

I'm playing the game in French to see how much of the language I remember from studying it while I was a kid, and by studying I mean not paying any attention in class and just getting by because I never thought I would need it in the future. Now I'm actually interested in learning, and I seem to be doing pretty well while playing through Alpha Sapphire.

Ultimate Grass Monotype Challenge
Game: Y
Badges: 7 8
EDIT: Challenge complete!

Okay, I haven't even posted an update for beginning this run, but I wanted to finish my Grass-type UMC. I finished this for Gen V ages ago, so now I figured I wanted to finish it for Gen VI, as well. Anyway, I just won my seventh badge. No point in writing out everything up until now. Here's my team, as of now:

EDIT: Just kicked Lysandre's and all of Team Flare's stylish butts. Moved on to defeat Wulfric. Ludicolo and Chesnaught blasted through most of the gym trainers, but Wulfric was actually a bit of a pain, in the end my Mega Venusaur actually earned the victory after being frozen TWICE, what the hell? Anyway, now I'm standing at the entrance to Victory Road with this team:

EDIT 2: Challenge complete! Victory Road wasn't too tough, Pokémon Y is incredibly kind to the player, I blasted through without too much trouble. Then the E4.

Wikstrom was the most annoying. Klefki took down Chesnaught and Jumpluff, before I sent in Gogoat, who tore the rest of his team apart.
Malva was surprisingly easy. Ludicolo set up rain and then swept away with Surf.
Drasna wasn't too much troube, either. I led with Ludicolo, but got taken down by Dragalge. Gogoat came to the rescue, and I then had to use a Max Revive to get Ludicolo out there again with Ice Beam to win the battle for me.
Siebold's Starmie took out Gogoat, so Jumpluff and Chesnaught had to step in and win instead.

Diantha was a bit more trouble. Gogoat got taken out by Hawlucha, who then got taken out by Jumpluff. Jumpluff then got defeated by Goodra, so I sent in Ludicolo to set up rain and defeat Goodra with an Ice Beam. Ludicolo and Chesnaught (I don't remember exactly how it went down) took out Tyrantrum and Aurorus, and then Ferrothorn managed to take out her Mega Gardevoir.
AZ was easy.

FINAL TEAM:

Ludicolo, lv. 67 @ Damp Rock
Male // Bold // Swift Swim
- Ice Beam
- Rain Dance
- Surf
- Focus Blast

The latest addition to the team, Ludicolo proved itself a valuable team member time and time again. Full Grass-teams typically require sun support to function, but none of my Pokémon really need it - Jumpluff appreciates it, but other than that, I figured I might as well go with rain support to boost Ludicolo's speed and power of Surf, and to lower the damage taken from Fire-type attacks. Ice Beam came in handy for coverage.

Jumpluff, lv. 66 @ Wide Lens
Male // Bold // Leaf Guard
- Dazzling Gleam
- Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain
- Leech Seed

I've used Jumpluff several times before, with almost this exact moveset and item, and it never gets old. Jumpluff is surprisingly good at taking hits, and this set is just a certain victory in almost every situation. Other Grass-types are the bane of this strategy, though, but I could almost always count on Jumpluff to win a battle for me.

Chesnaught, lv. 65 @ Expert Belt
Male // Jolly // Overgrow
- Leech Seed
- Power-Up Punch
- Wood Hammer
- Hammer Arm

Chesnaught is a powerhouse, that's really all I have to say about him. He can take a hit, and he can deal some damage. Not sure about the moveset, but it worked.

Venusaur, lv. 66 @ Venusaurite
Male // Modest // Overgrow
- Venoshock
- Toxic
- Leech Seed
- Petal Dance

Despite being the team mega, Venusaur never really felt like the powerhouse of the team. I mean, he absorbed a ton of hits and dished out some damage, but was mostly there when I needed a Toxic that couldn't miss. Toxic + Venoshock came in handy a few times, though.

Gogoat, lv. 67 @ Big Root
Female // Jolly // Sap Sipper
- Horn Leech
- Earthquake
- Aerial Ace
- Bulk Up

This one really surprised me. I didn't even want to use Gogoat initially, but I just went with it. Battling the E4, this girl pulled off some amazing feats. It was difficult deciding on a moveset, but in the end, this one worked fine against the E4.

Ferrothorn, lv. 68 @ Rocky Helmet
Male // Impish // Iron Barbs
- Curse
- Payback
- Power Whip
- Gyro Ball

I looked back on some of my older posts from this challenge, and it turns out that I used a Ferrothorn on my Unova run of this challenge with this exact same moveset. What can I say? It works like a charm. Ferrothorn can wear enemies down with this setup without even lifting a finger. Iron Barbs + Rocky Helmet and Curse + Gyro Ball are some nasty combos.

Ultimate Bug Monotype Challenge
Game: SoulSilver
Badges: 2

Okay, so apart from my latest update on completing my Grass-type UMC, I haven't been active for a long time, and now I figured I'd clean up a bit in the challenges I've signed up for - starting with my Bug-type UMC. As stated in the top post, I've already completed Blue and Emerald version, so I wanted to do SoulSilver next. Also, I haven't played SoulSilver in a long time.

Anyway - before challenging Falkner, I caught myself a Weedle and a Ledyba. I've never, ever wanted to use Ledyba or Ledian, because their stats suck, but I figured I'd try. Falkner was, as you'd imagine, pretty tough, and I had to rely on a bit of luck to win. Beedrill came through for me, though, and we won! Before challenging Bugsy, I caught a Paras, trained for a bit, and then challenged him. I actually sent out Paras first, but got destroyed by Scyther's U-Turn. Beedrill then wore his Kakuna down while setting up Harden a ton of times. Beedrill then poisoned Scyther and almost took it out, but eventually was defeated. Ledian then finished Scyther off and took out Metapod.

Here's my current team:

Paras, lv. 15
Male // Impish // Dry Skin
- Scratch
- Stun Spore
- PoisonPowder
- Leech Life

Ledian, lv. 19
Female // Modest // Swarm
- Comet Punch
- Mach Punch
- Reflect
- Roost

Beedrill, lv. 17
Male // Adamant // Swarm
- Twineedle
- Focus Energy
- Harden
- Poison Sting

An Ultimate Challenge is accomplished by reaching the End Game of one game from all six official region using the same type. They do not need to be completed in chronological order.

Good. I think Ill sign up then, I wanna try this. Even if Johto will be literally impossible to beat. But I guess Pekin did it, so its possible :). Ill start easy for now (because I started Diamond already).

Forum User Name: ddrox13
Pokémon Type: Grass
Challenge Mode: Ultimate
Game(s): Diamond, LeafGreen, Soulsilver, Emerald, White 2, Y
Previous Progress: Diamond thru 2nd gym

and while I'm at it, Ill go ahead and do my first update on Diamond. Pics might be added later, will be in at least some future updates.

THRU 2 GYMS, Team:
Spoiler:
Oak (Grotle) Lv25
Razor Leaf
Rock Smash (Has come in handy more than once)
Bite
Curse

Flora (Budew) Lv23 (Max Happiness, so it will evolve tomorrow)
Water Sport (Hi Rival's Chimchar)
Mega Drain
Growth
Stun Spore

And as I was typing this update, I checked my Honey trees and found...

CherryBomb (Cherubi) Lv8
Tackle
Growth

Bundle (Burmy) Lv12 (It is female, so it will evolve into a Grass type if I dont screw it up)
Protect
Tackle

Events since Gym 2:
Spoiler:
- Beat Gardenia in 7 turns. 4 Curses, 3 Bites.
- Caught a shiny new Bidoof HM slave
- Rampaged through the Galactic Building
- Oak does all the work on Jupiter but gets none of the EXP (Leaves both critical as she recalled Zubat)
- GOD DAMN IT LEMME LEAVE ALREADY
- Get a Bike
- Still can't leave, so go get a Explorer Kit to rot in my bag
- Ride up and down Cycling road for a good 15000 steps to increase all around Happiness
- Attempt to retreat and pick up my Honey trees...
- WHAT, NOW I CAN'T LEAVE BACKWARDS? SCREW ETERNA
- Bike all the way back the long way around to Floroma to grab my Honey Trees, the first two yield the Pokemon I needed, so we out.
- Also noticed that after 21K steps, Flora has finally reached max happiness, so that evo can happen tomorrow. For now, we sleep.

ALSO: I will be doing most of these on an emulator, but Y will be done on my physical DS. As such, I will probably do the Y one as I do the rest of them.

It's been a hot while since I did a Pokemon challenge, so I thought I'd come back to the old monotype and start a new one!

Forum Name: Dr. Slavic
Pokemon Type: Rock
Challenge Mode: Ultimate
Games: FireRed, Crystal, Emerald, Pearl, White 2, X
Progress: Below

Update 1
~Started a new game, named player character Rocky and my rival Erosion.
~Picked my Bulbasaur as my starter, nicknamed Chia Pet, and defeated Erosion and his Charmander with a barrage of tackles.
~Ran through all of Professor Oak's hoops to get the Pokedex.
~Continue up through Viridian City and Viridian Forest uneventfully, and arrive in Pewter City.
~Brock is a joke since I chose Bulbasaur and he goes down in a matter of turns, giving me the Boulder Badge!
~On the way to Mt. Moon, Chia Pet evolved into Ivysaur for what it's worth!
~Once I've arrived at Mt. Moon, I searched around the entrance for my first real Pokemon.
~Captured a Geodude, nicknamed Joan Jett!
~Battled most of the trainers before and throughout Mt. Moon, and picking up the almighty Helix Fossil.
~After exiting Mt. Moon, I headed right to the Punch Guru (patent pending) to teach Joan Jett the mysterious ways of the Mega Punch.
~Arriving in Cerulean City, I head to the Pokemon Center to heal up before heading North.
~Running into Erosion, Joan Jett has little trouble defeating his team, dismantling Pidgeotto and Charmeleon with Rock Throw and dispatching Ratatta and Abra, unable to touch her, with Mega Punch, defeating him quickly.
~After completing the fabulous Nugget Bridge, I travel onward towards Bill's house, and Joan Jett evolves into Graveler along the way!
~After being unable to touch Misty's Starmie for quite a while, even at 10 levels above it, I manage to strike Starmie with a critical Magnitude, finally KOing her second Pokemon and validating like an hour and a half of failure, netting me the Cascade Badge!
~After defeating Misty, I head down south, evading as many trainers as I can, to arrive in Vermillion City.
~Naturally, I head to the S.S. Anne first, running through to collect the items and run into Erosion again.
~More difficulty with this battle, and Kadabra comes close to knocking Joan Jett out (all the way in the red zone!) Luckily, Joan Jett is grossly overleveled and takes on his team with little difficulty, and I defeat Erosion once more.
~After obtaining Cut from the captain, I head back to Cerulean and go to the Rock Cave in order to catch my next Pokemon, an Onix named Big Boss!
~I teach Big Boss Dig via TM and head back to Vermilion City, taking on all the trainers there and to the east of Vermilion to train Big Boss.
~Big Boss has a bit of trouble with one of the gym trainer's Pikachus, thanks to Double Team, but he takes care of Lt. Surge easily through a combination of Screech and Dig, beating Surge and getting me the Thunder Badge!
~After getting the badge, I had back to get Flash and go through the Rock Cave with little trouble.
~I arrive in Lavender Town, but with little to do I head west to Celadon City.
~After locating the well-hidden Rocket Hideout I locate the nefarious Giovanni and take him on.
~Onix and Rhyhorn go down with little trouble, as Dig keeps Big Boss from risking any damage. However, Kangaskhan gives a little more trouble, and makes Big Boss a little nervous. However, Giovanni is defeated ultimately, and I receive the Silph Scope left behind.

Sigh, I feel like imma hate this type once im through

Doing both Diamond and Y simultaneously, so I will spoiler any updates

DIAMOND:
Spoiler:
- Finally evolve Flora into Roselia, and look up Shiny Stone locations to figure out where to get one (Iron Island, so a long time from now)
- FUN FACT: In Diamond/Pearl, Cherubi/Cherrim learn exactly 0 offensive moves of types other than grass or normal (Excluding HP). It's HP is Dark, which is OK I guess.
- Defeat Rival Joy with skill and Water Sport abuse
- Get told to go to Veilstone for my next gym. However, I know better than that, my gym is CLEARLY in Pastoria, as is my Carnivine. But alas, they make you go the long way around. So, Veilstone ho!
- Get Solarbeam TM from the dpt store and head south to Pastoria
- Carnivine is MIA today, so we will try again tomorrow.
- Bundle evolves into Wormadam and becomes useable on the team. The Hidden Power it learns on evolution is Ice type. every damn one of these pokemon is useless
- CherryBomb evolves into Cherrim, learns Sunny Day, and I burn that Solarbeam TM I grabbed in Veilstone
- Gym time! Floatzel caused problems (and by that I mean completely shredded my team to bits) by outspeeding a Chlorophyll boosted Cherrim in Sun and carrying Ice Fang, but Pursuit spam on Flora rather than Ice Fanging it let me take the badge underlevelled.

TEAM:
Spoiler:
Oak (Grotle) Lv27
Razor Leaf
Rock Smash (Has come in handy more than once)
Bite
Curse

Flora (Roselia) Lv28
Water Sport (Hi Rival's Chimchar)
Giga Drain
Growth
Stun Spore

CherryBomb (Cherubi) Lv27
Solarbeam
Sunny Day
Leech Seed
Hidden Power (Dark)

Bundle (Wormadam-G) Lv24
Protect
Tackle
Hidden Power (Ice)
Confusion

Ft. WHY? the Bibarel (Cut/Surf/WFall HM Slave until I find a Wingull) and Charap the Chatot (Fly/Defog HM Slave)

Y: Started with Chesnut the Chespin and caught Yulyana the Pansage. Nothing more.

Ultimate Bug Monotype Challenge
Game: SoulSilver
Badges: 3

Since defeating Bugsy, I've been through Ilex Forest, caught myself a Pineco, updated a few movesets, caught a Heracross and trained for a while to get everyone to almost equal levels. Then I challenged Whitney.
Heracross is the only one who takes neutral damage from her Rollout, so I sent her out - also, she's the team powerhouse. Tough luck, though, her Miltank still took out Heracross. So I sent out Ledian, because I taught her Focus Blast, if nothing else because the words "it's super effective!" feel good, even though Ledian can barely dent a drywall. She missed Rollout twice, though, and because apparently some Pokémon bug god of accuracy is watching over my playthrough, Ledian succesfully landed two Focus Blasts in a row and wiped the floor with her Miltank. Good job, Ledian!

Here's my current team:

Ledian, lv. 21
Female // Modest // Swarm
- Headbutt
- Focus Blast
- Reflect
- Roost

Beedrill, lv. 18
Male // Adamant // Swarm
- U-Turn
- Focus Energy
- Harden
- Poison Sting

Paras, lv. 19
Male // Impish // Dry Skin
- Scratch
- Spore
- PoisonPowder
- Leech Life

Heracross, lv. 18
Female // Jolly // Swarm
- Headbutt
- Leer
- Aerial Ace
- Endure

Pineco, lv. 20
Female // Careful // Sturdy
- Bug Bite
- Protect
- Rapid Spin
- Headbutt

Ultimate Grass Monotype Challenge
Diamond (7/8), LeafGreen, Soulsilver, Emerald, White 2, Y (0/8)

Bolded is current, strikethrough is completed, numbers are badge numbers

UPDATE: Beat Candice. Post has been updated to reflect this

Diamond
Important Events
Spoiler:
- Beat Maylene with little trouble
- Beat Fantina with help from Flora's new Shadow Ball attack
- Beat rival Joy with Oak's Curse spamming
- Evolved Oak into Torterra
- Evolved Flora into Roserade
- Bryon's first two pokemon fall quickly to Flora's new Weather Ball (Sun provided by CherryBomb). Bastodion's first 2 Ancientpowers both get the stat raise, which causes problems until Oak gets off a +2 Earthquake
- Beat the living crap out of Saturn and Mars
- Head north and grab Pine the Snover (stealing Oak's Tree theme) on the way to Snowpoint
- Aaaaaannnnnddddd the Ice gym. The bane of the Grass type's existance. Grinderino, pls.
- Candice's Snover gets chunked by Bundle before deciding to use STAB Avalanche. Oak outspeeds and does not care (Earthquake). Oak also outspeeds Sneasel (Earthquake). CherryBomb sets up Sun on Abomasnow and I let Flora take the switch-in Avalanche. She survived with 1 HP. Weather Ball (Fire) easily OHKOes. Medicham is the real problem for my team, as it is the fastest of her pokemon. Flora outspeeds, but cannot do more than half before receiving an Ice Punch. Oak dies to Ice Punch. CherryBomb manages to set up Sun again, while Medicham bulks up. A Solarbeam to the face puts it in its place, and gives me another badge.

Team Through Gym 7:
Spoiler:
Oak (Torterra) Lv40
Male | Adamant | Overgrow
- Earthquake
- Wood Hammer
- Rock Climb (I ran out of HM slave spots rip)
- Curse

Spoiler:
The big Physical threat and the only one with anything resembling a Defence stat, Oak isn't all that flashy, but the team's only male member does his job (taking hits and killing stuff)

Flora (Roserade) Lv40
Female | Impish | Natural Cure
- Giga Drain
- Shadow Ball
- Weather Ball
- Poison Jab

Spoiler:
Until recently, Flora was stuck with it's only attacking move as Giga Drain. However, evolve her and give her Shadow Ball and Weather Ball (which is Fire type in Sun) and you have a well-rounded Special Attacker, with the highest Speed on the team and SpDef higher than Oak's Defence to boot. Poison Jab is filler until I pick up the Sludge Bomb TM from the Galactic warehouse

CherryBomb (Cherrim) Lv40
Female | Docile | Flower Gift
- Sunny Day
- Solarbeam
- Leech Seed
- Hidden Power (Dark)

Spoiler:
Cherry is kinda outclassed by Flora, but it the only one on the team with Sunny Day, Solarbeam and Dark coverage for the time being (I might catch a Carnivine). Her Sunny Day is also crucial for Solarbeam, Flora's Weather Ball, and Flower Gift, so it's support is invaluable

Bundle (Wormadam-G) Lv39
Female | Adamant | Anticipation
- Flail
- Razor Leaf
- Psybeam
- Hidden Power (Ice)

Spoiler:
An Adamant nature was probably the worst thing to happen to Bundle, but her defensive stats (almost matches Flora's SpDef) are still good enough for her to take a hit from one of the 11 types she isn't weak to. It never feels like 11, but it is. This could be slightly biased due to her Flying weakness getting exposed often simply because she knows HP Ice, but that should be fixed once I get to Snowpoint

Pine (Snover) Lv37
Female | Adamant | Snow Warning
- Wood Hammer
- Ingrain
- Ice Shard
- Blizzard

No bio yet, as I haven't really used her yet

Ft. GULL the Pelliper and WHY? the Bibarel

Nothing to report in Y.

Only other thing of use is I went ahead and marked down every Grass type in order obtainable for both Y and FRLG, and intend to do the rest shortly. etc. refers to evolutions. Ill throw Y's in this post, and FRLG when I get around to that.

Spoiler:
Chespin etc.
Pansage etc.
GYM 1
Budew, etc.
Bulbasaur etc.
Skiddo etc.
Roselia etc. (Easier than maxing Budew’s happiness)
Ferroseed, etc.

GYM 4
GYM 5

Phantump, etc.
Pumpkaboo, etc.
Snover, ect.
GYM 7 & subsequent story events
GYM 8
Pokémon League

Pics will start coming Update 6, when the thing lets me post them :P

EDIT: Does Rotom count as a Legendary? If not, what are the rules on it's usage in non-electric/ghost monos? i.e. can I get one, switch it to Mow form, and call it a Grass type (Gens 5-6 only)?

Update 2
Spoiler:
~Returned to Lavender Town and entered the Pokemon Tower, running into Erosion once more.
~Big Boss takes care of most of Erosion's team without trouble until Exeggcute, who does a number on him before ultimately being taken down. Kadabra was an easy KO for Big Boss, and Erosion was defeated!

~Traveled up through the Pokemon Tower, defeating the Rocket Grunts and rescuing Mr. Fiji.
~After receiving the PokeFlute, I defeat Snorlax and travel south to Fuschia City.
~I enter the Safari Zone and capture my next Pokemon, a Rhyhorn named Bertha.

~After training Bertha a bit to the east, I enter the Fuschia City gym.
~I train up Bertha and Big Boss on the gym trainers before challenging Koga.
~Koga takes down Bertha and Big Boss no problem, but Joan Jett shows herself to be dependable and takes down all his Pokemon without issue. Koga is defeated, obtaining me the Soul Badge.

~I then flew back to Pewter City and obtain the Old Amber before flying to Pallet Town.
~From here, I travel south over the ocean to Cinnabar Island.
~Here, I head to the lab and resurrect my next two teammates, Omanyte and Aerodactyl.

~I took the time to give both Bob Frost and Pterror several TMs / HMs, changing their movesets as seen below.

~After training on a few early wild Pokemon, I traveled around Kanto a second time, sweeping up trainers which had been left unbattled to raise up Bob Frost and Pterror.
~Flying over to Celadon City, I enter the gym.
~Pterror solos the entire gym, destroying all of Erika's Pokemon with one hit except for Vileplume, who took two. Erika is defeated and I obtain the Rainbow Badge.

~After the gym, I headed next door to Saffron City and entered the Silph Building.
~After a lot of confusion and wandering through teleports, I find my way to my rival Erosion once more.
~Pterror and Bob Frost make short work of Erosion's team, and Bob Frost completely destroys Charizard, netting me another victory.

~I head forward and challenge Giovanni a second time, who Pterror manages to solo, allowing me to defeat Giovanni and save the president!

~After defeating Giovanni, I headed to the gym and challenged the trainers there.
~Teleport pads are starting to make me sick, but I find my way to Sabrina and challenge her.
~Most of her Pokemon go down to Pterror and Bertha, but Alakazam KOs all of my Pokemon at least once, and I'm forced to Max Revive Pterror. Luckily, Pterror finishes Alakazam with a Fly and I get the Marsh Badge!

Ultimate Grass Monotype Challenge
Diamond (8/8), LeafGreen, Soulsilver, Emerald, White 2, Y (1/8)

Bolded is current, strikethrough is completed, numbers are badge numbers.

UPDATE: Beat Volkner and caught a pokemon in Y, post updated

Diamond
Important Events:
Spoiler:
- Jupiter tells me not to bother coming to the Galactic HQ in Veilstone. Logically, we proceed straight to the Galactic HQ in Veilstone.
- Pine vanquishes all stupid Golbat, evolving into Abomasnow in the process. This works well until...
- VS Cyrus: So yea, 2 Flying types and a Sneasel. Fun. The fliers are easy (Pine's Blizzard and/or Flora's Hail boosted Weather Ball). The Sneasel on the other hand? It starts by OHKOing Flora, then Pine, then Bundle (Ice Punch). Luckily for me, he decides that Night Slashing the 4x Ice weak Oak is a good idea, giving Oak time to push Earthquake.
- Saturn poses no threat
- Trek up to Spear Pillar
- The Double Battle with Mars and Jupiter very nearly ends me. Luckily, Bundle lives just long enough for Joy's Munchlax to finish the work it, Oak, Pine, and Flora had put in to date
- And then it's time for Cyrus: Evolved (Now with 3 Flying types!). Again, Honch falls easily, but Crobat does a number on my team by slaying Pine. Bundle takes credit. Weavile is annoying as hell, and it again slays 3/4 of my remaining team before Night Slashing Oak rather than Ice Punching it. A few well placed Wood Hammers later, Oak has 18 HP and Cyrus is defeated...
- Dialga, however, is not defeated. And I burned my Revives on some grunts earlier (and one in the first Cyrus fight). So I M-Ball it to escape trouble, calling it Grovyle (PMD2, anyone?). I declare it to be my new HM slave before reading the whole "no legendaries" rule and realizing it can only learn 3 HMs (Bibarel can learn 6).
- And now we arrive at what I consider the most bs level jump in this game: Volkner. I mean, it's technically only 1 level up on Cyrus for each pokemon, but there is no good place to grind and I'm always underlevelled for the Cyrus fight as it is. GRINDING TIME!
- After grinding up Flora and CherryBomb to the level of Volkner's lowest (My standard Gym entry level) and Oak and Pine to 2 levels below that, I realize that this is an Electric gym and Im running a monograss with a Torterra and stop grinding.
- Pine rips the Gym trainers apart by bringing down the (Wood) Hammer over and over.
- VS Volkner: Oak takes down Raichu, and he sends in Octillary (which runs Aurora Beam), so I switch to CherryBomb and set up Sun. A good Solarbeam to the face deals with Octillary, but Luxray takes 3 (compliments of Hyper Potion) before critting Crunch. At this point, I question why I left Cherry in in the first place and push the Earthquake button. Badge Get!

Team through 8th gym:
Spoiler:
Oak (Torterra) Lv45 @ Soft Sand
Male | Adamant (Atk>SpAtk) | Overgrow
- Earthquake
- Wood Hammer
- Rock Climb (I ran out of HM slave spots rip)
- Curse

Flora (Roserade) Lv46 @ Spell Tag
Female | Impish (Def>SpAtk) | Natural Cure
- Giga Drain
- Shadow Ball
- Weather Ball
- Sludge Bomb

CherryBomb (Cherrim) Lv46 @ Big Root
Female | Docile (Def>Def) | Flower Gift
- Sunny Day
- Solarbeam
- Leech Seed
- Hidden Power (Dark)

Bundle (Wormadam-G) Lv44 @ Exp Share
Female | Adamant (Atk>SpAtk) | Anticipation
- Flail
- Razor Leaf
- Psychic
- Hidden Power (Ice)

Pine (Abomasnow) Lv44 @ Shell Bell
Female | Adamant (Atk>SpAtk) | Snow Warning
- Wood Hammer
- Ingrain
- Ice Shard
- Blizzard

Ft. GULL the Pelliper (Obligatory Bird), WHY? the Bibarel (Obligatory Water type), and Grovyle the Dialga (Obligatory Cover Legend)

TL;DR: As someone who vowed never to use a Weather team when he first started competitive play in Gen 4, I find myself in a monograss with Hail, Sun, AND Rain. Because why not?

Y
Important Events:
Spoiler:
- Abort usage of Yulyana, that entire trio sucks and I have far better places to put a Leaf Stone if I find one
- Let Chestnut take on every trainer in sight
- Roll(out) through all the gym trainers, reaching Viola quickly
- Go to the PC to heal and change my pants. Because I can.
- Viola is one of those GLs who is always harder than I think she will be, and always says "fantastic" and makes more terrible photography puns than I remember. However, a Lv14 Chestnut with 3rd cast Rollout is something Vivilion can't take. Badge pl0x.
- Ignore all trainers on Route 4 and rush to the lab to listen to Sycamore's music, pick up
Hazelnut the Bulbasaur (Imma stick with my theme this time), AND evolve Chestnut into Quilladin AT THE SAME TIME!
- Head to route 5 to capture a Skiddo. I attempt to name it Pine Nut, but apparently Nut is banned from nicknames (perfectly reasonable). I settle for Walnut.
- Evolve Hazelnut into Ivysaur
- Realize that I can't spell and have the Name Rater fix Chestnut's name (I already went and fixed it in this post)
- rush through the Route 6 crap, ignoring the trainers for now
- Finally get to the encounters on Route 7 and grab Flora the Roselia (I will reuse nicknames of any reused pokemon, and this takes precedence over themes. Ill try and maintain genders too)

Team through Route 7:
Spoiler:
Chestnut (Quilladin) Lv17
Female | Gentle (SpDef>Def) | Overgrow
- Vine Whip
- Rollout
- Bite
- Leech Seed

Hazelnut (Ivysaur) Lv17
Male | Timid (Spd>Atk) | Overgrow
- Leech Seed
- Sleep Powder
- Poison Powder
- Vine Whip

Walnut (Skiddo) Lv16
Male | Lonley (Atk>Def) | Sap Sipper
- Razor Leaf
- Leech Seed
- Growth
- Tackle

Flora (Roselia) Lv15
Female | Bold (Def>Atk) | Poison Point
- Growth
- Poison Sting
- Stun Spore
- Mega Drain

Out of Rotation:
Yulyana the Pansage (Banished for being a bad pokemon)

TL;DR: Why must every early game Grass type get Vine Whip? Clearly not so I can make a Watch Me [Whip / Nae Nae] joke in the next update... Also, "Nut" is banned from nicknames by the swear filter.

Pics come as soon as the forum lets me post links.

Ultimate Grass Monotype Challenge
Diamond, FireRed (2/8), SoulSilver, Emerald, White 2, Y (2/8)

Bolded is current, strikethrough is completed, numbers are badge numbers.

I think that was my record time for beating Diamond. Granted, I was running the thing at 2X speed for most of the time, but I think it took that into account. I was sooooo underlevelled, but when you have hax, strategy, and a crapload of Hyper Potions on your side, that doesnt really matter :P

Diamond (Complete!)
Important Events:
Spoiler:
- Victory Road is aids, Repels are bae
- So I notice that Cynthia's Garchomp is Lv62 and I am in the low 40s. I choose to use the spend all my money and bang my head into the wall until it breaks.
- Where do I choose to spend my money? Why, the only place for a 10 year old to spend an extra 100K: The Casino
- Anyway, I go to chall the E4 and... Riiiiight. Forgot about you.
- VS Rival Joy: Staraptor U-Turns to Infernape, which Flora promptly KOs with 2 Sludge Bombs. Pine eliminates the bird, and it's smooth sailing from there on. Floatzel KOed Oak with Ice Fang, but not much to speak of otherwise.
- So my first 3 or 4 E4 runs end in terrible defeat at the hands of Aaron. The 5th, however...
- VS Aaron: A few Fiery Weather Balls to the face deal with Dustox, Pine SDs to +4 and eliminates Beautifly and Vespiquen, and chunks Heracross before dying. And then... Drapion OHKOes every remaining pokemon not named Oak, who EQs for the game.
- VS Bertha: CherryBomb deals with Quagsire before Hippowdon kills 4/5 of my team. Oak follows up by killing 4/5 of hers.
- VS Flint: Im 12 levels underlevelled, and at a huge type disadvantage. However, the AI in this game is fabulous and Oak sweeps house until Lopunny murders everyone. Oak still KOes it, it just takes a while
- VS Lucian: Again, **** MEDICHAM! JUST KILL IT. I WANT IT TO DIE. NOW. Again, the AI in this game is the best, and I abuse Hyper Potions, Leech Seed, and Hail to allow Oak to burn his last 2 EQs to deal with Medicham (Who Drain Punched it rather than Ice Punching it) and Kazam.
- *Checks Party Status* PP Counts: Blizzard - 2, Sunny Day - 1, Solarbeam - 3, Earthquake - 0. LETS DO THIS! Ill break down the Cynthia Battle a little more
- CherryBomb/Bundle/Pine vs Spiritomb: Leech Seed is set, then the sun comes out and I hit Solarbeam 3 times. I then elect to switch out with 0 PP on Sunny Day and Solarbeam, to save Leech Seed PP. Bundle dies in 2 hits. Pine hits Wood Hammer.
- CherryBomb/Oak vs Lucario: Leech Seed and then Cherry is switched out. I have already forgotten that EQ has no PP, so Oak just spams Wood Hammer. Luckily, it crits and Leech Seed and Hail take it out.
- CherryBomb/Flora/Pine vs Milotic: Leech Seed is set to counteract Aqua Ring, and then I make the incredible smart decision to have Flora Giga Drain a Mirror Coat Milotic. That didn't go over well. Pine brings down the Hammer, and Seed/Hail works its magic. There may have been a few Hyper Potions used here too.
- Pine vs Roserade: Sahdow Ball fails to OHKO Pine. Blizzard does not fail to OHKO Roserade.
CherryBomb/Pine vs Garchomp: Garchomp decides to Giga Impact a 20% HP Cherrim (which dies) when I still have an Ice type alive. Blizzard fails to OHKO, but Ice Shard secures the kill
- Oak vs Gastrodon: BRING DOWN THE HAMMER!
- Win

FINAL TEAM:

Oak (Torterra) Lv50 @ Soft Sand
Male | Adamant (Atk>SpAtk) | Overgrow
- Earthquake
- Wood Hammer
- Rock Climb (I ran out of HM slave spots rip)
- Curse

Honestly, this thing was my lifeline. He took hits. He did craploads of damage. He was my powerhouse. He bailed me out of more situations than I can count (Citation: the entire freaking E4). Nothing more to say here.

Flora (Roserade) Lv48 @ Metronome
Female | Impish (Def>SpAtk) | Natural Cure
- Giga Drain
- Shadow Ball
- Weather Ball
- Sludge Bomb

Flora was my ace from Fantina to the last battle with Joy. She covered all the bases where the Grass Type's shallow coverage pools fell short. A pleasure to have on the team.

CherryBomb (Cherrim) Lv48 @ Big Root
Female | Docile (Def>Def) | Flower Gift
- Sunny Day
- Solarbeam
- Leech Seed
- Hidden Power (Dark)

Cherry kinda bopped back and forth between useful and useless, but came through hugely in the E4, especially against Cynthia. Sun was always fun to have around too, so she was always a welcome addition to the squad.

Bundle (Wormadam-G) Lv46
Female | Adamant (Atk>SpAtk) | Anticipation
- Rain Dance
- Razor Leaf
- Psychic
- Hidden Power (Ice)

Bundle had her times to shine, and was fun to use. Even if her E4 usefulness was limited to acquiring free switches for the rest of the team and putting up Rain once, she still was awesome.

Pine (Abomasnow) Lv49 @ Shell Bell
Female | Adamant (Atk>SpAtk) | Snow Warning
- Wood Hammer
- Swords Dance
- Ice Shard
- Blizzard

So Pine came onto the team really late, but became a powerhouse basically upon evolution. She literally straight won me the Cynthia battle, and her offensive capabilities were second only to Oak.

Ultimate Bug Monotype Challenge
Game: SoulSilver
Badges: 6

After painting the walls with Whitney's Miltank, thanks to Ledian's absolutely terrifying base 55 Sp. Attack stat, I decided to move on. I figured I'd try and catch a Yanma, just to see if I got lucky with its nature - and I did! The first one I caught was Timid, so Yanma will be the final member of my team.
Outside Ecruteak I found the TM for Shadow Claw, which allowed Heracross to blast through Morty's gym pretty much unharmed. Moving on, I trained for a while to help everyone keep up with Heracross - and Paras evolved! I then did the whole lighthouse thing in Olivine, surfed to that island, where I got some super secret potion and another badge - Heracross did most of the work, but eventually got taken down by Poliwrath, so my newly evolved Parasect had to step in.
Back at Olivine, it was time for some grinding yet again, because Jasmine absolutely destroyed me, when I first tried challenging her. Second time around, Ledian, Pineco and Heracross took her down in a team effort. Go team! Also, I spent way too much time on Voltorb Flip just for a Wide Lens.

Here's my current team:

Pineco, lv. 30
Female // Careful // Sturdy
- Bug Bite
- Dig
- Spikes
- Headbutt

Beedrill, lv. 30
Male // Adamant // Swarm
- U-turn
- Toxic Spikes
- Pursuit
- Poison Sting

Ledian, lv. 30 @ Wide Lens
Female // Modest // Swarm
- Silver Wind
- Focus Blast
- Reflect
- Roost

Parasect, lv. 30 @ Miracle Seed
Male // Impish // Dry Skin
- Slash
- Spore
- Bullet Seed
- Leech Life

Yanma, lv. 30
Male // Timid // CompoundEyes
- Headbutt
- Shadow Ball
- Uproar
- Pursuit

Heracross, lv. 30 @ Sharp Beak
Female // Jolly // Swarm
- Rock Tomb
- Brick Break
- Aerial Ace
- Shadow Claw

Ultimate Grass Monotype Challenge
Diamond, FireRed (4/8), SoulSilver, Emerald, White 2, Y (3/8)

Bolded is current, strikethrough is completed, numbers are badge numbers.

UPDATE: I did stuff in Y

FireRed
Important Events:
Spoiler:
- Head South to crash the party on the SS Anne, which is just... WHY???
- VS Rival Blue: (Sleep Powder + Leech Seed)*4=Win
- Catch a Diglett and have it gloriously smack down the tree and solve the ****ing trash puzzle
- Oh, Hydrangea evolves at some point
- VS Lt. Surge - Hi! My name is Hydrangea. I know Dig. Bye Lt. Surge!
- Head back through Diglett's cave
- Raffelsia evolves. Yea.
- Realize I need to have 10 Pokemon caught to get Flash. I have 7 (Bulb+Ivy, Paras+Sect, Oddish+Gloom, Diglett)
- Catch a few more pokemon, including Pikachu for flash
- Head over to Celadon again and enter the cave of despair (Rock Tunnel)
- Upon reaching Lavender town, I proceed to forget the plot of this game and head into the Pokemon Tower. Besides, it will be good training and there is no one who would dare jumpscare me... crap
- VS Rival Blue: I have no idea why I hype these battles, because Spore/Sleep Powder is broken in this game. Carry on.
- Eventually remember I need to go to Celadon and sprint in that general direction
- Buy a pair of Leaf Stones in the Department Store, but refrain from using it on Rafflesia for now
- Also buy a Thunderstone and throw it aimlessly at my Flash slave that I will likely box and never use again. Why? Because I'm rich as hell, thats why.
- Find the gym after about 20 minutes of searching, and realize I am overlevelled as ****
- VS Erika: See every Rival battle
- Find the "top secret" Rocket hideout after 20 seconds of looking
- BUT FIRST we do the only thing 10 year olds should do besides wander around half a continent alone to capture pets and then use them to fight the most notorious criminal in the world: spend all the prize money from beating up other kids pets with your pets in a Casino. A perfectly good waste of $40K, am I rite?
- Buy a pair of Miracle Seeds for damages. YOLO
- Raid the Rocket Base, and beat the crap out of 150000 goons
- VS Giovanni: a pair of Giga Drains to the face kills off the first two. Kangaskhan takes 3 and an Acid, but still...
- Raid the Pokemon Tower (again), and get Rafflesia to learn Moonlight while beating more goons. Moonlight is the last move I care about learning as a Gloom, so I push the Leaf Stone button

Team through Tower of Terror:
Spoiler:

Hazelnut (Venusaur) Lv35 @ Miracle Seed
Male | Docile (Def>Def) | Overgrow
- Leech Seed
- Tackle
- Sleep Powder
- Razor Leaf

Male| Lonley (Atk>Def) | Effect Spore
- Leech Life
- Spore
- Dig
- Bullet Seed

Rafflesia (Vileplume) Lv35 @ Miracle Seed
Female | Jolly (Speed>SpAtk) | Chlorophyll
- Giga Drain
- Moonlight
- Acid
- Stun Spore

Ft. CUTT the Diglett and RAICHU the Raichu

Y
Important Events:
Spoiler:
- Damn that cave
- Too many Psychic types
- Not enough Geodudes
- Rest and recover upon arrival in Celadon Shalour City (I'm good at remembering things...)
- Head over to route 13 and pick up Cashew the Exeggcute for use in this gym only now then...
- VS Serena: Meowstic decides it is a really smart idea to Fake Out Pecan. Curse *3 and Gyro Ball think otherwise. Walnut Bulldozes Braixen to death, and Pecan's Pin Missile removes Absol from existance
- Get Cashew to learn Confusion. Then, upon comparing the number of Leaf Stones in the game (1) with the number of final team members I want that evolve with a Leaf Stone (0), evolve Cashew into ExegutIHaveNoIdeaHowToSpellThis
- Enter the Gym
- VS Korrina: 4 Cashew Confusions ends the game
- Trudge up to the Tower of Mastery and acquire (begrudgingly) LEROYJENKINS the Lucario, to be banished to the box forever.
- Obtain a Lapras, but then realize Walnut gets Surf and banish it, along with Cashew because I've never liked the thing.
- Route 12 is one of my favorite routes in the game. Why? Because wasting 10 minutes of my life riding a Skiddo is hilarious as hell
- Acquire a Shiny Stone. Roserade time!
- Oh yea, Hazelnut evolves too. Problem? MEGA EVOLUTION READY GO!
- Anyway, I head to Coumarine and walk up to the... Welp, at least she warned me *Glares at Blue and Joy*
- VS Serena: Pecan tries to be a Gyro, which works on Meowstic but not Braixen. Walnut Bulldozes Braixen in, and a couple Power-Up Punches from Chestnut deal with Absol. Damn this rival is easy *Glares at Joy again*

Team entering Gym 4:
Spoiler:

I'll start with Fire red. Is it ok if I trade a shiny weedle that I found in another fire red rom it's legit no hacking at all. I know I can catch Weedle and Caturpie right of the bat but I want to use this shiny Weedle and the game it's on is being used for a solo run.

Grats on the shiny! Shiny Tangela looks nice in that green! Now if only I could get a reply on whether or not I could trade that Shiny Weedle over so I can use it but if not then I'll do it on a free play run later and just catch Caturpie and a different Weedle though it might be best if I just do Caturpie for that confusion Butterfree or sleep powder/dream eater combo or both! Though I really wanna do a Beedrill cause I have never used it.

Shiny Pokemon I have caught: Rapidash (SS), Linoone (E), Spinda (E), Bibarel (Pt), Weedle (FR), Garbodor (X), Chansey(x5) (X), Audino(x2) (X), Flechinder (Mn), Whiscash (Mn), Magby (Mn), Caterpie (X)
