Grats on the shiny! Shiny Tangela looks nice in that green! Now if only I could get a reply on whether or not I could trade that Shiny Weedle over so I can use it
Thanks, and I assume so. It isnt like it has any natural advantage over the ones you catch in the forest, which is before the first gym. Just make sure that Weedle's level is lower than that of your highest leveled pokemon. Also, USE A PARASECT. It is freaking amazing. learns a ton of TMs and HAS SPORE. It's big weak point is a lack of Bug STAB (other than the almighty Leech Life), but there should be plenty of that to go around. Now, on to the good stuff...

Ultimate Grass Monotype Challenge
Diamond, FireRed (8/8), SoulSilver, Emerald, White 2, Y (4/8)

Bolded is current, strikethrough is completed, numbers are badge numbers.

Honestly, Monograss battles are really boring. It's always just sweeping (See Y), being swept (see FR) or Status stall (see FR). Nothing is ever super intense. I don't think both sides have lost a pokemon in a major battle since the SS Anne battle with Blue.

FireRed
Important Events:
Spoiler:
- **** this mansion
- It can die in hell
- *buys 99 Max Repels*
- Anyway, Blaine.
- VS Blaine: Fire types again? Hazelnut's Sleep Powder and Hydra's Spore would like a word with you.
- I decide to do the 3 Island crap for fun and profit
- Last Gym, leggo
- VS Giovanni: Raff Giga Drains anything that doesn't have Nido in it's name, Cashew Psychics anything that does. EZ
- So I then decide to go to the E4, and... CRAP WHY ARE YOU HERE
- VS Rival Blue: Charizard sweeps me. RIP.
- I decide it might be a decent idea to train. so, training! The logical places to train would be the hangouts of those silly birds, Uno, Dos, and Tres. First stop: Seafoam Islands!
- I find and battle Articuno, fully intending to make it my Fly slave, but I realize I have no pokeballs. So I kill it.
- I DO capture Moltres, and it is now my loyal servant
- And I kill Zappy. Problem? Oh, I also get the crew up to Lv50.
- "GET OVER HERE!" - Me, to Blue
- VS Rival Blue (redux): Oh my god Sleep is so ****ing broken. I now outspeed Charizard and Hazelnut can facetank a Flamethrower. Enough of this, LET ME THROUGH FOOL!
- Realize that BIG BOY is not swag enough for a Nidoking, and give it Blackglasses. because swag.
- Realize I actually have homework to do. RIP

Team entering Victory Road:
Spoiler:

Hazelnut (Venusaur) Lv52 @ Quick Claw

Don't know and can't be bothered to check

Ft. FIAH the Moltres and BIG BOY the Nidoking

Y
Important Events (Just a gym and an evo):
Spoiler:
- Walnut decides to evolve, finally.
- The grass gym would seem to be a cause for concern given all my STAB moves outside of Gyro Ball and Poison Jab are Grass type, and Flora is in no place to sweep with P-Jab. Pecan, on the other hand, knows Curse
- VS Ramos: Pecan uses Curse Spam as Jumpluff literally kills itself on his Iron Barbs, and then a pair of well aimed Gyro Balls rids the world of the other two.

Team through Gym 4:
Spoiler:

Chestnut (Quilladin) Lv34 @ Black Belt
Female | Gentle (SpDef>Def) | Overgrow
- Needle Arm
- Poison Jab
- Aerial Ace
- Power-Up Punch

Update 3 (FINAL)
Spoiler:
~After having defeated all the mainland gym leaders and Giovanni, I returned to Cinnabar Island.
~After traveling through the Pokemon Mansion and obtaining the key to the gym, Bob Frost evolved into Omastar!

~The Cinnabar gym was a joke with my team, and Blaine falls to Pterror and Bob Frost in one hit for each of his Pokemon, earning me the Volcano Badge!

~I forgot about the entire Sevii Islands stuff so I went through and completed Bill and Celio's sidequests before continuing to Viridian City.
~While challenging the gym, I come to the realization that I am drastically underlevel.
~Regardless, I challenge Giovanni and, once again, Bob Frost's Surf and Pterror's Fly / Aerial Ace make short work of the criminal lord, giving me the Earth Badge!

~After the fight, Bertha evolves into Rhydon!

~After defeating Giovanni, I headed to the left and ran into Erosion on my way to the Elite 4.
~He defeats me once, Charizard destroying my team's non-existent Special Defense.
~Another run at him and my team does a better job of disposing him, Bob Frost soaking up Charizard's Flamethrowers, allowing me to defeat Erosion.

~After defeating Erosion, I travel up through Victory Road with relative ease and reach the Pokemon League.
~After stocking up on many items (and failing quite a few times), I hit a successful run of the Elite 4.
~Lorelei is up first. Pterror takes Dewgong out with a critical AncientPower, and defeats Cloyster by using Fly after every use of Dive. Pterror then takes out Jynx with Fly. Lapras goes down to a few more AncientPowers and Bob Frost takes out Slowbro with a barrage of Bite, allowing me to defeat Lorelei.

~I heal up and continue onto Bruno. Bertha takes on both Onix's with her Earthquake, and Pterror takes on the rest of Bruno's team with Fly and Aerial Ace, and I defeat Bruno with much more ease than Lorelei.

~Agatha's Golbat and Arbok go down to Bertha's Earthquake, and her ghosts fall to Bob Frost's Bite attack, and Agatha goes down no problem.

~Drake's team goes down to my team between Bertha, Joan Jett, and Pterror's Rock moves, and I defeat him as well.
~Erosion is a challenge but his team falls to a combination of Bertha, Bob Frost, and Pterror. Alakazam was the biggest obstacle in this fight, and I use a turn of Future Sight to heal up Pterror, my only 'mon fast enough to keep up with both Alakazam and Charizard. I manage to defeat him, though, becoming the Pokemon Champion!

My Team
Joan Jett

Spoiler:

Naturally, Joan Jett was the first addition to my team, and up until late game when some of the newer members were added, Joan Jett was a useful Pokemon to the team. I'm sure, had I been able to evolve her further, Joan Jett would have retained her use even up through the Elite Four. She was still a fun choice and was a go to choice to absorb a hit and retaliate with a fairly strong hit. Joan Jett did a little better after getting Earthquake over Magnitude, but she was just a middle-of-the-road member of my team.

Big Boss
LVP

Spoiler:

Big Boss was the second member of my team, and was useful for a couple of gyms after getting him. However, Big Boss has the offensive presence of a pebble, and even his defense fell behind when my other members evolved. Unfortunately, Onix is just not a good Pokemon when dealing with evolved Pokemon, and Big Boss was no different. Screech and Sandstorm allowed Big Boss to serve as a kind of support Pokemon, but given the other Rock / Ground types in my team, Big Boss was rarely used late in the game.

Bertha

Spoiler:

Bertha was a big improvement to my team after catching her at the Safari Zone. While she was useful, she is smack dab in the middle in terms of usefulness for the team. While not as useful as the next two members, she did much better than the previous ones, and she was useful even through the Elite Four with her Earthquake and Rock Blast. Rhydon's a Pokemon I might try again in the future, as Bertha was both sturdy and a hard hitter. Her typing was somewhat crippling, however, and kept her from reaching true potential.

Bob Frost

Spoiler:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by.
And that has made all the difference.

Bob Frost was an impulse choice over getting Kabuto and Kabutops, and I think it was the right choice for my team. Bob Frost, while not invincible, had my highest Special Attack and Special Defense, and added much needed diversity to my team. Bob Frost was my favorite Pokemon to use in this playthrough, and his unique type and moveset helped out in a great many fights.

Pterror
MVP

Spoiler:

Aerodactyl is a Pokemon I've not used before, and I was very impressed by Pterror's performance in this run. Just his sheer stats breezed through the game, and his typing was essential against Ground and especially Grass types, and that's part of the reason I did the gyms in the order I did, so Pterror would be around for Erika's gym. Indeed, Pterror played an essential role in almost every boss battle after getting him, and he really made the Rock type easy, and fun, to use, and I would gladly use him in a playthrough again *cough cough*Pokemon X.

Well, I've finished FireRed with my Rock and roll team! As I type this, I've already made significant progress in the next game, Crystal, and will post that when I get another free moment from the stress of finals.

-Ran to get parcel so I could trade and then catch my first hm slave a Rattata then traded Bulbasaur for Hornet before proceeding to Viridian forest where I caught Telefly.
-Doing some grinding for awhile before I go fight my rival who I have named Gary cause I couldn't be bothered to make up a name for him. (In other words I was lazy)

AAW MAN, I WAS SUPPOSED TO FINISH BEFORE YOU :(

On that note, I BEAT FIRERED GUYS!

Ultimate Grass Monotype Challenge
Diamond, FireRed, StormSilver, Emerald, White 2, Y (4/8)

Bolded is current, strikethrough is completed, numbers are badge numbers.

I take back what I said in the last post, E4 battles are ****ing intense.

FireRed
Important Events:
Spoiler:
- Victory Road? My 99 Max Repels from the previous update (which was actually 20, but same thing) would like a word with you
- So yeah. E4. I grab Aster and a random Exeggcute I accidentally caught in the safari zone.
- VS Lorelei: I once again learn that your starter is the only pokemon you can trust in the E4, as Hazel bodies her team after her various members kill everything else
- VS Bruno: Cashew OP
- VS Agatha: "Ghost Type master." That explains the 5 POISON types... Anyway, Cashew starts to sweep, only to get outsped and OHKOed by her higher level Gengar. Luckily, Raffa comes to the rescue with a Revive and Sunny Day, so the Chlorophyll ability lets me easily sweep everything else.
- VS Lance: Oh great. 2 pokemon know Safeguard and both Dragonair have Shed Skin. How dandy. First few die to the normal strats, Hazel takes down Dragonair I with a Return or 30, and Cashew Explodes twice (compliments of a Aster revive), taking both Nair II and Nite down.
- BLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEE
- Cashew/Hazelnut vs Pidgeot: Standard Sleep/Seed strats
- Hydrangea vs Alakazam: It Reflects into my spore, then...
- ****ing Everyone vs Charizard: He recalls Zam and sends in C-Zard. ****. I sack the Exeggcute to get Hazel a free switch, and it outspeeds either on a Quick Claw trigger (I think) and Sleep it, allowing me to get Leech Seed up. Charry proceeds to wake up and OHKO. ****. I then realise that resisting is pointless and begin to play the Revive Game: Just revive something every turn until Leech Seed kills it. Seed does 1/16 a turn, I brought 26 Revives. Charizard kills every member of my team at least twice, Cashew gets credit.
- Hydrangea vs Alakazam (Redux): NOW I kill it. Finally.
- Rafflesia vs Rhydon: Giga Draaaaaaaaain
- Hydrangea vs Exeggcute: Of course, the killing blow of my Grass monotype would be done by the most OP move in the game. Leech Life. GG NO RE, *****

FINAL TEAM:

Hazelnut (Venusaur) Lv54 @ Quick Claw
Male | Docile (Def>Def) | Overgrow
- Leech Seed
- Return
- Sleep Powder
- Earthquake

Damn this thing was good. Sleep/Seed support was the only reason I came close to beating the E4, and he was the only reason I beat Charizard too. All in all, he was my MVP, and I absolutely loved using him.

Hydrangea (Parasect) Lv53 @ Miracle Seed
Male| Lonley (Atk>Def) | Effect Spore
- Leech Life
- Spore
- Dig
- Giga Drain

I had never used a Parasect before this run, and he surpassed my every expectation. Spore is broken as hell, Dig helped with Magneton and it's out-of-battle usage got me out of sticky situations more than once. And Leech Life is the best move in the game. Problem?

Rafflesia (Vileplume) Lv52 @ Miracle Seed
Female | Jolly (Speed>SpAtk) | Chlorophyll
- Giga Drain
- Moonlight
- Acid
- Sunny Day

This pokemon would have been far more useful if Giga Drain didn't have 5 PP in this gen. Sun support helped on multiple occasions, and she did do damage with said Giga Drain to anything Grass weak, as I gave up a lot of my Grass STAB at the end. Would use again.

Cashew (Exeggutor) Lv54 @ Lucky Egg
Male | Relaxed (Def>Spd) | Chlorophyll
- Psychic
- Sleep Powder
- Leech Seed
- Explosion

AND THEN THERE IS THIS THING. After soloing Koga AND Agatha, I have to give him some credit. Psychic was probably the single hardest hitting move on this team outside of Explosion, which secured the Lance battle too. Again, something I would use in a future run.

<- It's Shiny :)
Aster (Tangela) Lv24
Male | Gentle (SpDef>SpAtk) | Chlorophyll
- Absorb
- Growth
- PoisonPowder
- Vine Whip

Suicided a couple times to get Revives off, but basically was just there to look cool.

Ft. EXEGGCUTE the Exeggcute, FIAH the Moltres, and BIG BOY the Nidoking

A WORD OF NOTE: I have changed the Johto game I will be playing to Drayno60's StormSilver. In this case, the pros (a crapton of extra starters, Leafeon before the first Gym, etc.) outweigh the cons (Harder level curve). I will NOT be playing Volt White 2, when the time comes, as the pros (a crapton of extra starters that you can't control, Snivy getting Contrary) are outweighed by the cons (harder level curve). The top of this post has been updated to reflect this.

Spoiler:
-Battle some trainers tell my Telefly and Hornet hit level 10 at which point they evolved.
-BOOM Telefly learns Confusion! DOUBLE BOOM Hornet learns Fury Attack.
-I proceeded to fight Gary and mopped the floor with him using Telefly's brand new move Confusion.
-I am low on potions. Two left to be exact. And after my win against Gary am feeling over confident with battling Brock. I get there beat the only gym trainer there and challenge Brock. I bring out Telefly and use Confusion taking a big chunk of Geodude's hp then I switch to Hornet. Yeah it went downhill from there cause I attack did little to no damage and switched to Telefly who promptly ends Geodude and both it and Hornet level up. At this point I switch to Hornet intending to slow Onix down and with String Shot and deal some damage. That is when I find out what it means by traded Pokemon not doing what you want at a specific level. So Hornet does nothing I want and gets hit with Bind preventing me from switching. Then Onix spams Rock Tomb killing Hornet and then it OHKO's Telefly. Yeah so I go back and battle him not once but NINE more times before Telefly learns Sleep Powder after battling Geodude nine times in a row. At this point I sleep Onix and spam Confusion to win!

Spoiler:
-Burned a path toward Mt. Moon and found out along the way that Hornet STILL doesn't listen to me.
-I CAUGHT A PARAS! Named him Spots cause there wasn't enough room for Turtleshroom.
-Telefly is starting to become my best Pokemon killing everything with Confusion and sitting at level 19.
-Prepare for trouble! Make it double! TELEFLY USE CONFUSION!!!!!! Obliterated the first Team Rocket grunt!

Rest of the update.

-Completely obliterated everything in Mt. Moon courtesy of Telefly and it's Confusion attack! (Next time I do a nuzlock I wanna use a Butterfree)
-BOOM Spots learned Poison Powder and Stun Spore!
-BOW DOWN TO MY HEALIX FOSSIL THAT I WILL USE ON ANOTHER CHALLENGE!
-I reached Cerulean City and decided to go grind my way up to Bill so I walk up to the bridge... WHAT YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THERE!!!!!!
-Rival battle: I bring Spots out first and instantly switch to Telefly to fight his Pidgeotto who nearly kills Telefly might I add with Gust but Sleep Powder and Confusion had a little discussion with it. After that Charmander kills Telefly and I bring Hornet out to revive Telefly. Yeah then Hornet gets OHKO'd with an Ember and then Telefly revenge kills Charmander with Confusion. Then I switch to Spots who kills is 3rd Pokemon forgot which. Then it dies fighting Rattata which Telefly kills.
-After this I heal my Pokemon and decide it's probably better if I get more Potions before I go to do some more training.

SoulSilver Mono-Flying Run
UPDATE #2

PROGRESS:
Spoiler:
I've been pretty lazy with updating on my progress, but here's at least my gym leader and caught Pokemon progress:
  • Whitney's Miltank was pretty tough with Rollout, but my Ledian was the MVP with Reflect and Mach Punch.
  • Morty was the first easy gym leader. Having a Normal-type with Psychic moves (Noctowl) made fighting Gen 1 Ghost-types pretty easy.
  • After learning Strength, I went back to the Ruins of Alph and caught Guile the Natu, which soon evolved into Xatu.
  • Chuck also was a bit of a breeze, thanks to finally having a true type advantage.
  • Jasmine was terrible fight. The Magnemite family has been especially terrible to me this run with their high defense and Electric moves. Jumpluff at least is not weak against Electric moves, but it's not like it has incredible stats. Beat her with a combination of Leech Seed, Confuse Ray, and Hypnosis.
  • Pryce was a similar fight - status effects were my key to victory, but at least all his Pokemon have an additional weakness to Grass.
  • Caught Beatrix the Skarmory on Route 45.
  • Clair was also pretty tough, but Skarmory was a nice new addition to the team.
  • Will, Koga, and Bruno didn't put up much of a fight, but Karen's Houndour was so tough. Jumpluff, Skarmory, and Ledian of course all have a type disadvantage against Fire, Xatu does against Dark, and Noctowl's Psychic moves do nothing, so Crobat was really the only one who wasn't completely screwed. It took a bit of grinding, and again some status effects to get through.
  • Lance was also pretty tough, so I had to rely on status moves once again, but I did win. Noctowl's special defense, Skarmory's defense, and Jumpluff's Leech Seed were all very valuable. Now time for Johto!
I have to say, this may be my favorite Pokemon team I've ever used (though Ledian has become useless...I need to experiment with her moveset). I have to be much more strategic than ever. The Gen 2 Flying-types are much weaker (overall) than what was introduced in Gen 1 (Charizard, Gyarados, Aerodactyl, and Dragonite).

Small Y update today. No SS progress because ****ING BUGS ARE ANNOYING AS **** Bugsy is a hard Gym Leader
Remember when I said "Nut" was banned from nicknames by the swear filter? I lied. It's actually "Pine" that is banned, being French slang for F***. Viva la France! With that out of the way...

Done with Platinum Ice. Good lord I was underleveled or something, that elite four was so hard. Bought myself at least 50 revives and used 46 of them.

Final screenshots

As I was taking the screenshots, I realized.... My entire team was female. That was completely accidental (other than the froslass obviously).

Ultimate Bug Monotype Challenge
Game: SoulSilver
Badges: 7 8

I haven't had a lot of time to play recently, so it's been a while since my last update. Last time, I'd just beaten Jasmine after playing Voltorb Flip for a small eternity. Arriving at Mahogany Town, I decided to grind for a while because that's just all kinds of fun, and some of my bug pokés kind of need the extra levels. Pineco and Yanma evolved, which means that now my entire team is fully evolved! I then got to the Lake of Rage, knocked out the red Gyarados and found a pair of Choice Specs for Yanmega. Beedrill then more or less single-handedly took out the Team Rocket HQ in Mahogany Town, and Ledian swept through Pryce's gym. Pryce himself, though, took out Ledian, because - well - it's a Ledian. So Heracross had to step in.

Every single member of Team Rocket in Goldenrod, be it in the Radio Tower or underground, got destroyed by the might of Yanmega.

EDIT:
I moved on through the ice cave and challenged Clair. She was all kinds of tough, only Ledian and Heracross made it out of that battle alive. She then went on to show me an example of sportsmanship by refusing to give me a badge, until I went to some hut in the middle of a lake beneath a cave or some ****. No no, Clair, it's not a hassle at all, it's perfectly reasonable. Anyway, I completely forgot that you had to do the whole Whirl Islands thing, so I quickly got that out of the way - Yanmega destroyed Lugia, screw catching it - and moved on to Victory Road. Not much to report here, I got to the league pretty quickly. Silver at the end of Victory Road wasn't too hard. So, onto the E4.

I knew I was going to be underleveled, and that's not something my (mostly) fragile bug team appreciates, so I bought a year's supply of revives, full restores, full heals and hyper potions. And then i went in.
Will wasn't too much trouble. Yanmega blasted through his team almost unharmed with Shadow Ball.
Koga was a bit more difficult, but this is where I truly discovered the usefulness of Forretress. I was briefly stuck in a Forretress 1v1 standoff, until his used Explosion. Other than Forretress, Beedrill and Heracross won this one for me. And I remember Yanmega got a lucky AncientPower boost to take down his Crobat.
Bruno was hard. I had Beedrill lay down some Toxic Spikes, but very little did it help. I got to use some revives here, while Heracross bravely won the match for me.
Karen was tough, as well. Beedrill and Parasect pulled off some nice teamwork here with U-turn and of course, the almighty Spore, but mainly, it was Heracross again. And Yanmega. So far, Ledian hadn't even seen battle at this point.

And then there was Lance. Holy crap, I don't remember the last time I was this much on the edge of my seat for a battle. It seemed like it lasted forever. My "strategy" involved getting some lucky boosts with Yanmega's Choice Specs locked AncientPower. It suceeded when I led with Beedrill, U-turned to Parasect, beacuse Gyarados would use Waterfall against Beedrill, which doesn't affect Parasect. Parasect would then put Gyarados to sleep and chip away some HP, getting it ready for Yanmega to finish. Yanmega then did get a ridiculuosly lucky and well-timed AncientPower boost, but it still wasn' enough to take down Aerodactyl. The rest of the battle was me walling with Forretress, while reviving my team. In the end, I was switching between Forretress and Yanmega through his three Dragonites. In the very last battle, his Dragonite was almost out before taking out Forretress, making way for a nice, clean revenge kill from Yanmega's AncientPower. Yanmega was the last one standing and definitely MVP of the match. During the battle, I almost emptied my supply of revives, full restores and I even had to use my elixirs and ethers for Yanmega.

Anyway, I guess I'm moving on to Kanto!

This is my current team:

Beedrill, lv. 43
Male // Adamant // Swarm
- U-turn
- Toxic Spikes
- Assurance
- Poison Jab

Forretress, lv. 44 @ Amulet Coin
Female // Careful // Sturdy
