I recently got back into reading after a big break from it for about 3 or so months. I just bought too many books for me to read right now, so I'll try to do that sometime in the quite near future. Atm I'm reading The Scorpio Races, The Maze Runner, The Fault in Our Stars, and have also bought another large pile of other books I haven't actually started yet. I'm enjoying all the books I have attempted to get through by now however.

So, what books are you reading and what books have you read? Do you read? Why, why not?
Make sure you post some recommendations, because I'm interested to hear other books that people have enjoyed :)

I read a lot. Right now I'm working on A Song of Ice and Fire and I'm in the 5th book. I also read a lot of science fiction as well.
Awesome :) I only have the second book of that which I borrowed from my friend, so I'll be sure to buy the first then read them altogether.

I can't imagine my life without books in it; I love reading. I just can't understand people who laugh about not reading like it's cute: "lol i dont read <3"

Mostly into nonfiction (mainly political/historical) but I appreciate fiction too. Some great books that you probably already know are:

- Holes by Louis Sachar
- Harry Potter series (who doesn't like HP?) by JK Rowling
- Hobbit/Lord of the Rings series by JRR Tolkein
- Brian's Saga series by Gary Paulsen
- Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
- The Lazarus Machine by Paul Crilley

This Chinese proverb resonates a lot with me:

"After three days without reading, talk becomes flavourless."

Definitely check them out. They're so thick and thorough but not once have I gotten bored reading them like I did with Lord of the Rings.

Speaking of LotR, I'm re-reading that! Read The Hobbit because movies, then just picked up Fellowship because why not. I'm actually really interested in dwarves right now because in like everything where their race is a major player their culture and such is fascinating.

I also bought a bunch of ancient history books a while ago but those take me a while to get through. I like history but nonfiction tends to be written so blandly. :( It's hard to get through.

I honestly haven't read for pleasure in a looong time. It's not that I dislike reading, it's just hard for me to isolate time to sit down and get into a good book. Once I get going, it can be enjoyable (depending on the book of course). Just lately, I haven't had the motivation to read. I did find online pdfs of the Animorphs series that I was debating whether I should read, but I'm not sure whether the nostalgic value is going to be the only factor there and if the actual writing/storylines will be good, or whether it starts to become less interesting as I grew older.

Dude. Let me tell u. I downloaded that whole series and read it within a month. All of it. Ok some of the pdfs were messed on my Nook so there would be a paragraph out of place sometimes but. It's a genuinely good series, still. I mean there's a lot of it and sometimes you want to shout at the characters and sometimes it's a little tedious. And I don't think it's like, the coolest thing ever like it used to be but it's still a great read. And really, a lot of things you read as a kid are worth reading as an adult. Even if just for the comparison of perspectives.

I'm basically in the same boat as Introvert. My attention span for reading is next to nothing, unless they're textbooks, which I have to read for school TToTT When I was younger though, I read a significant amount to my dad every night because he wanted me to increase my vocabulary. That's completely gone. I only read when it's absolutely necessary.

It's not that I dislike LOTR or anything... Tolkein just seems to go on... and on... and on.

I hardly find myself motivated to start a series of books (or really any book in general), so I haven't read much lately. But here's what I have read:

  • The "Unwind" series
  • 2001: A Space Odyssey
  • Breakfast of Champions (aka Goodbye Blue Monday)
  • The Hobbit
  • Tons of comics (Spy vs Spy, Sam and Max, The Simpsons comic, etc.)
  • Tons of rock biographies

Pink Moon is on its way.

That's entirely true. But being that a lot of modern fantasy is very Tolkien-influenced, I feel like I should really actually take in what he's written. Honestly I've read the entire LotR series about six times so far in my life, but have never been able to properly take everything in. I re-try every few years. :3 I'm aiming to get at the Silmarillion as well this time, but we'll see.

It's the same with Shakespeare, actually. Every once in a while I'll pick up my big Shakespearean play collection and read one. It's a lot easier than it was in school- I'm not being asked to analyze or memorize or spend weeks on one play, and I really do have the comprehension skills to understand and enjoy them. I read A Midsummer Night's Dream last week in about an hour and it was nice to laugh and some of the insinuations (though I was hella disgusted at Helena's lil speech about being Demetrius' dog, ugh). I've got so much classic lit sitting around that I'm trying to actually get to and subsequently retain it's ridiculous tho. and im just sitting around watching code lyoko instead
