Since I'm neglecting my homework atm, I can try to help you out.

The first thing I notice is the opacity... Can I convince you to make it .8 at least? If not .9? I get that you want the leaves and background images to come through, but it's hard to read the text at a .7 (for me) and that can deter people from wanting to join if they can barely read the first post.

Oops, I forgot to change it back (I had it higher and wanted to test it lower)

This seems odd, I get what you're doing though being human IRL you're relating yourself to that part. This makes me think that I have to be a human character though... So I would suggest changing it to "anytime they (supernaturals? do these subgroups have a collective name? I would think of one if not and change this "they" to that name) revealed themselves to humans they were hunted and killed because they are thought to be evil.

Again, don't do the we=humans because confusions. So, replace "we" with humans/mankind/mortals/etc.

Hehe I knew that would be confusing and yet I still wrote it like that :P

So... how does having an aura help someone with no magical abilities? What's the point in being non-magical if all you have is an aura? I would expand upon what an Aura is. Can you only have one aura? How do you know what your aura is?

Why is the story all the way at the bottom? I'd move it underneath the Lore + Inspiration section.

I have been re-arranging things and this happened to be pushed down I agree it should be up at the top

I would tie this back to the Wotw and the plot that you have going. Like.. You can travel anywhere on Earth (should be capitalized in this case but... that's pickiness :p) and create any NPC characters to help them complete these quests and missions to restore the Door Keeper.

Also, are we allowed to create the quests/missions? Or will you assign those?

I'm trying to understand why this isn't in the Aura section, but here? Maybe you should move it there. To be honest... I don't understand why water fairies can't have conflicting auras? How weird would it be for a water fairy's aura to be fire? Like that would make one interesting character. That might be a reason for why she was left behind or no one talks to her. I don't know... I think limiting auras to "matches" can make you miss out on some really interesting characters. That's just my thought. Your RP, your rules. ^^;
Same as above :P I really need to re-read before I post stuff
Also, I do believe you're missing a Rules section and a rating, but maybe you edited that out of this version.

Rating was added later but I forgot about rules

What are these abilities? Did I miss something... Are these the auras?

Abilities was something I scrapped last second and I forgot to delete this part lol
Anyway, to give some positives. I like it, this seems like an interesting roleplay. I'm guessing it's more sandbox-y as in less structured, no plots led by the GMs, etc. I'm curious as to how these quests or whatever Wotw is going to help get the Door Keepers back! I think that you explained what the characters would be doing in the plot well enough that you could go ahead and re-submit.

Thanks for all your help, I'll implement these changes soonTM
Something broke in that ^ but essentially I come up with a bunch of excuses and say Thanks!

Here's the edits:
Spoiler:
Hidden Village

Rated T (to allow for some mature stuff but don’t go overboard)

Lore + Inspiration:
Hidden Village is an RP inspired by a book I recently read. I was inspired by the idea that there are other creatures that live on earth that instead of preferring daylight and technology, they lived in the shadows, used magic and referred to themselves as the Nightsiders. They have been around since the beginning of humans, possibly even before humans. But, because humans are a paranoid and fearful race, anytime the Nightsiders revealed themselves to Humans they hunted and killed the Nightsiders because they thought they were evil. Humans tore down forests and destroyed the natural environments which they lived in to build our vast ever-expanding empires. Humans are the reason why they left, humans are what rid earth of it’s magic. All the magic creatures left through doors to other realms which were guarded by artificially created beings they called keepers. These creatures were simply an AI created by magic to manage the doors. They have no way of defending themselves, they are simply there to open and close the doors to other realms.
Story:
You are a creature who was trapped on earth after the door keepers were destroyed and long to see others of your kind. You found a village of creatures just like yourself hidden in a magical meadow away from all human settlements. Together the group hopes to rebuild the keeper that once stood in the village and travel to other realms, hoping to find their families and others of their kind. When they come across an eccentric oddball named “The Witch of the World” they follow her advice and quests in hopes of repairing the door’s keeper. While the Wotw seeks to help them there are some that seek to stop them. The Humans might not want to stop them, however their fear may cause them to attack anyway. There is a group formed of Humans that hunt “monsters” for sport, these people tend to use technology or talismans to hunt the monsters.
In this RP you can be anything you imagine! A pixie, a wood nymph, a water nymph, a were-wolf, a were-beaver, a were-chicken, a vampire, a dragon, a mage, a fire-lizard, a rock golem, a fairy, ect.
You can travel anywhere on earth (no other dimensions or space, that’s part of the main storyline) and create any non-important (to the main plot) characters. Fighting with other rpers is encouraged. (ic not ooc :P) Winners of rper fights will either be agreed upon by the participants or if they can’t decide then by me. Characters’ auras should usually match their personality or their race, however this is not a requirement. Your character must start as a newcomer to the town. Note: If you want your character to be a “normal” human PM me as this would work into the storyline at a specific point. The storyline has fixed points that will happen however, player interaction will change the storyline significantly.

I’ll list a few races and their pros and cons

Wood Nymph:
They can inhabit any tree or natural wooden objects and cannot “die” if their body is destroyed as long as it is touching earth (the ground not the planet). Although by burning it’s body it can be killed permanently.

Were-Animal
Can be any animal you desire, however only one. At first they gain nothing “supernatural” from the transformation but after practicing they can gain “powers” while in animal form. Such as increased healing/clotting, strength, speed, agility, ect.

Vampire:
Pretty much well known but I’ll explain the more unique stuff. They live in large groups like humans do, they build cities and towns, and they prefer to drink blood from animals rather than sentient creatures. However after the human attacks some have turned to more interesting ways of getting blood.

Mage/Wizard/Sorcerer:
Everyone has an aura which can be harnessed by magical means and those with magical abilities can see other’s auras and tell who possesses magical abilities. By harnessing the magic within themselves they can perform magic like you all know

Witch/Warlock:
A witch or warlock uses herbs and potions as well as talismans to achieve their magical abilities.

There are MANY more that I haven’t covered but if you want another race just post their description in your SU and if I approve it then it will be the base for the rest of their race.
Auras:
Everyone has an aura, even those who possess no magical abilities. Each type of aura can boost abilities of magic with a matching type. Normal humans with no magic may never find out what their aura is, however to those with magic abilities it is obvious what each aura is as they can see the aura in the person.

Oh, also I would change this sentence "I’ll list a few races and their pros and cons" to reflect that you've chosen a collective name and it'll help link people to what a Nightsider is so.... "I'll list a few races of Nightsiders and their pros and cons" would work.

I think you're all set! Just needs those rules.

So this is an idea for a mechanic of an RP I have toying about in my head. Without revealing too much of the plot, basically it's an RP with video game set pieces. I.e. go to level, fight some mooks, fight the boss, go to next level (It's not Sword Art Online, I promise.)

Anyways the mechanic I want your opinion on is the concept of having a sort of Adam West Batman "Villain of the week" for the bosses. Ideally each boss would be played by a different community member not already in the RP as a sort of guest star. The character's appearance, abilities, weaknesses and objective are all given to the RPer, but the personality is not, allowing each person to make each boss their own and basically ham it the hell up as they see fit. Naturally the guest star wouldn't be revealed until the moment the boss is revealed to garner sort of "dude Will Smith is playing Deadshot!" kind of reaction.

Do you guys find this as viable with the membership, what with essentially playing a temporary small part in an RP with a very small commitment level?
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

That sounds kind of interesting, if you can convince people to be your "guest stars" I say go for it.

If you can get this to work I could actually see this catching on as a mechanic. I know there are RPs I see that I know that I can't join full time but still wish to take part in. So, doing the whole 'guest star' thing would actually be perfect. I think the only problem would be is making sure your guest stars can 'guest' seeing as they'd probably join the RP if they could so you'd have to make sure they were free for the allotted time you need them for. Plus, let them know approximately how long they'd be in for. It seems you're already giving them everything (powers, weaknesses, appearance, etc.) so that takes most of load off.

My only concern would be is that I hope that people don't just go "well, I'll just be a guest star instead of joining" because it's less work, less commitment, etc. Then you'd get less roleplayers because they'd rather do short-term than long-term work.

I am curious, how are you going to find the guest stars? Are they going to "sign up" in the OOC like everyone else? How would that work?

I really like the idea! But perhaps the "real players" could also choose to only participate in some chapters? Like, maybe they were in the first chapter, then not in the next, and then in the third again. Something like Venice (I think?) where you can sign up for chapters/arcs.

Or, you can just recruit your friends here to be the guest stars and keep the "real players" as proper members of a RP.

The 'guest stars' wouldn't be signing-up in the most traditional sense. When the RP gets near a point to needing the first batch of bosses(I'll usually try to keep it in grouping of 2-4.) I'll make a post in the OOC topic about looking for some antagonists....and also in that "Roleplayers Wanted!" topic. Applicants send a PM instead of posting in the topic to keep things hush hush and not ruin the surprise. From there it's gather the list of responders, make selections, send out PM's asking if they're able, hand out individual boss characters and we're in business. If the list runs dry due to using up all the people on it who keep interest then it's just a case of rinse and repeat.

My only concern would be is that I hope that people don't just go "well, I'll just be a guest star instead of joining" because it's less work, less commitment, etc. Then you'd get less roleplayers because they'd rather do short-term than long-term work.
Yes, I also see this as a flaw, so one of my planned actions is to not mention the 'guests' on the OOC topic until applications are needed. Though to be completely honest, I would love to PM just random RPers from the community and ask instead of somewhat ruining the surprise by declaring that there will be special boss RPers...at least for the first few bosses, since it would become routine afterwards. Hell, I actually had reservations about even asking since it would mean any potential 'main cast' paying attention to this topic currently now knows the surprise and hopefully won't ruin the fun. I'm just not sure how effective getting a PM from someone randomly who has been inactive for about a year will be.

But perhaps the "real players" could also choose to only participate in some chapters? Like, maybe they were in the first chapter, then not in the next, and then in the third again. Something like Venice (I think?) where you can sign up for chapters/arcs.

Eh, that really wouldn't fit the theme of the RP. It's meant to be sort of team based, and not segmented into chapters or sidestories. If there's enough players though, the team would be able to split up, with group A taking on level X and group B taking on level Y, but would be simultaneous and still follow the traditional RP format of continual activity. The thing I'm tinkering with isn't meant to be integral to the RP, just some side fun to our regularly scheduled programming.

But now you've reminded me that I have no friends(on here at least) and the ones I did have been inactive for years. :P
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

I'm actually developing a Pokemon RP as we speak, based around coordination and Pokemon contests. The plot is simple: six talented coordinators invited to participate in a competition, pitting their Pokemon against others for fame and fortune.

It's hard taking into account how people will post. Currently, joint-posting is optional in case it ever comes to such. But I also plan to throw in Mystery rounds where the coordinators have to command their Pokemon in randomly selected situations... I don't want to make things too complicated and leave a bunch of easily-exploitable loopholes. It's difficult to word, really.

Here's my current explanation of the contest's rules. Thoughts? Criticism?

Spoiler:

The IIS lasts 10 phases, each in a different location. Each phase functions as your everyday contest would with two rounds: Judging and Appeal. Pokemon entered in the IIS are expected to be a balance of all five categories (coolness, cuteness, beauty, cleverness, toughness) as well as leave a unique impression on the panel of judges. There is a judge represented each of the categories listed above, as well as a superstar special judge who changes each phase. The rounds themselves are never based around a single category (I.e. Cool Contest, Cute Contest, etc.) Only the separate judges are.

The Judging round is self-explanatory. Each of the seven coordinators presents their leading Pokemon after a 60-second-long preparation. There they may use whatever materials, from Poffins to accessories, to accentuate their prized Pokemon’s features. The judges then score their appearance on a scale of 1 to 10. The Appeal round is different, as all coordinators’ Pokemon take the stage at the same time to participate in this five-round phase. The goal is to excite the crowd and especially the judges to be awarded points by the end of each round (1 to 5, 1 being “eh”, 5 being “breathtaking”) using expertise move-based techniques. Coordinators will choose a specific judge to appeal to, excluding the special judge, with (usually) a move matching the category they excell at. Of course, the environment or Pokemon’s special abilities and talents might give a extra flare to their performance. That and the only rules are no maiming and no leaving the stage… They didn’t say no disruptions of other coordinators acts…! Just remember: using the same move twice in a row and directing an attack at the same judge chosen by someone else typically deducts points.

Those are not the only rounds of the IIS. The third final phase is the Mystery round. Unpredictable, it is. A wheel will be spun before the phase commences, deciding what exactly coordinators will have to direct their Pokemon in doing. Each randomly-decided event will be judged in a different manner each time. It can vary from… well, it shall be known once the roleplay begins.

Once all phases end, the judges will add up all points earned. Then, the special judge will step in with their judgment. Their duty is to choose who they felt directed their Pokemon best and award them a whopping 30 points! This could potentially launch someone with fewer points to launch up to first, almost sporadically. The winner of the round earns a humble cash prize and is noted. Whoever wins the most phases comes out on top with 850k Pokedollars and guaranteed popularity. Will it be you?

Hey there guys! So, I'm considering launching a RP soon, based on Ecruteak City's Kimono Girls.

The main premise is that these 'Kimono Girls' (geishas) are trained not only in the art of entertainment, but on the more subtle art of assassination. Essentially, I want to reinvent the Kimono Girls as a sort of Tarantino-esque Fox Team Five, Charlie's Angels sort of group and insert them into a position where they (the RPers) will take direct part of the downfall of Team Rocket in the Johto Region. The plot will follow queues from Kill Bill, Charlie's Angels, the plots of the Generation I and II games (of course), and be infused with quite a bit of backdrop inspired by Memoirs of a Geisha.

If anyone is interested in helping me set up this RP, I would really appreciate it if you could help me with research. I plan to re-watch essentially all the movies mentioned above (and maybe read Memoirs while I'm at it), and I'd appreciate it if someone would be interested in helping me digest the source material for a different POV and opinion on the direction the RP should take.

If you are interested in participating in a RP like this but don't necessarily want to Co-GM or have time to help with the direction of the RP, like this comment or otherwise reply to me and let me know this is something you'd be interested in seeing come to light; a little extra motivation never hurt anyone, now did it? ;)

This sounds amazing. While I don't quite have enough time to go on a Tarantion watch-a-ton, I'd join this in a heartbeat.

Now that I am officially gotten the idea of these types of rps, I feel like starting my own Fire Emblem Rp. The story would take place in a world similar to Elibe (the setting of Fire emblem 6 and 7) but does contain some unique classes, and the fantasy gauge is a bit higher. The story plot is that a cultic group (whose name I still have yet to come up with,) are trying to revive ancient monsterous entity known as the Warlord to bring all of the kingdoms into an eternal war with each other so that they would destroy each other, allowing them to rebuild their own world in its remains (though they appear to just be a band of threatening mercenaries until half way through the story), and five Lords from five of the kingdoms take it upon themselves to stop them.

So does anyone mlike my idea, or can it be improved in any way/should have anything added.

It sounds like a really cool story. I'd be curious to see the RP fleshed out and posted.

It feels like it has been a week since I launched my rp, and no one has joined. Does it usually take this long for people to join, and if not, is there something wrong with my rp/plot (sorry if I sound like a Mr. Impatient Pants.)

Sometimes there just happen to be no one around who is looking for the RP you've made. Your background story for the RP is very long and detailed and perhaps that scares away more casual players? At the same time, the SU you put up as an example is very short, extremely short compared to most SUs on this site, so there is also a chance that people who read the opening post and expect something deep and well chiseled get confused when they see that short SUs are enough. This is all speculation, of course! To try and help you figure out why the RP seems empty c:

How ironic, I thinking my story may not be detailed enough. I will try simplifying it and detailing the SU once I have time.

A huge story can never be that detailed if it's compact. To really build a story to it's core, and the world around it, way more words are needed. While fun to really deepen out a world, it's usually a bit boring to read. The world should be set up in a simple fashion. The core mechanics clear, and the rules of this land laid out, but from there on, everything added on it just makes the story unnecessarily bigger. What I believe to be a good way to expand on a world is to make expanding lore optional, that someone only has to read when they want to interact with it. I did it for Venice, having expanded biographies and lore in other posts for when players had to interact with those characters and monsters, and Shak and Grey Bidoof are currently doing it for Legends of Abyllia.

This thread has had a great run and is full of fantastic ideas but I think that continuing to confine all this wonderful discussion to one large thread is doing this "new" space for deeper discussion an injustice.

From now on, please create a new thread to have your ideas reviewed or to ask for help with planning.
