So, hidden in the spoiler is an idea of an RP I've been mulling for a while. It's called Lunea's Veil and well... this is the lore for the place. Should give you a good idea for what I'm going for.
Spoiler:
If you'd asked eleven years ago about Lunea, you'd get told that it was nothing but a fanciful rumor. A few ancient history textbooks would refer to it as one of the many myths of the world, one of those less likely to be true, but only the most devoted conspiracy nuts would talk of Lunea as if it were a real thing - people preferred to believe in more believable legends, like the idea that an escaped genetic experiment lives a short walk outside Cerulean City or that giant leviathans battle over the earth and sea and can only be stopped by a giant dragon snake.

It wasn't until ten years ago that Lunea was discovered, and then completely by accident. It began with a fisherman, out to sea far from the lands we already knew about, in search of an elusive catch. But everywhere he went, he only found Magikarp not even fit to cut up and feed to his Mightyena. In his determination, he cast out further and further from land, until eventually, in the middle of the night, he found a new landmass - uncharted but definitely too large to be an insignificant rock. Sensing a fortune to be made from the discovery, he found a landing place, weighed anchor and immediately set to exploring the island. The stories he brought back were a sensation, and humans, being humans, immediately set out to colonise the new land.

As time went on, discoveries were made about Lunea, named now as the legends called it. Everything the old books said about it's permanent night-time were correct, but one thing they never noted, except in the most cryptic of texts, was the extreme danger. Wild Pokémon of Lunea are exceptionally aggressive and will attack and even kill any human that comes to their land, although they are fortunately enough night-adjusted to the point they tend away from strong sources of light - as such every settlement in Lunea is floodlit 24 hours of the day for its own protection. Human expansion grew and grew, beginning with the port at Light’s Landing and penetrating further into the island. Elite trainers were brought in to beat back wild pokémon attacking builders. It seemed like nothing could stop humanity. How wrong again we were.

It started only a few hours ago, but already Daybreak City, Lunea’s shining capital, lays in ruin. The wild pokémon attacked, in numbers that even the best professors didn’t know they were in - within minutes the city was overwhelmed by bloodthirsty, vicious pokémon. Nobody is quite sure how many are dead but you are one of those few who are still alive - although that may not be as lucky of a fate as it may first seem. You have two choices: You stay in hiding in Daybreak City. Eventually, you will run out of food or you will be found and you will die. But most are afraid enough they will do just that. The other option? Make a break. Get out of Lunea, back to the civilised world - and bring a warning of what hides behind Lunea’s Veil… If you live long enough to find out for yourself, that is…

The RP is going to be based around great restriction to player knowledge - how much the players know about Lunea is probably the defining factor to their survival - but it should also show its roots - I originally envisioned it as a game in which Pokémon meets the survival-horror genre and perhaps we could explore exactly how brutal pokémon could be together... So... this begs the question - does the darkness look like an inviting place to step into?

even if we somehow manage to get over it, we're all afraid of the dark at one point in our lives. That setting's going to make for an attractive horror-Pokemon mix RP; I think we've had those before, and they also had that unique setting. Pressure, old RP that has died now, is the first that comes to mind - you might want to check it out, get some ideas.

It'd be cool if you blasted us with some plot - were there any operations the humans running? Any notable people, leaders of expeditions that survived? Had they tried to contact the outside world conventionally? What about now, is communication available? I think mainly trying to find a way back home isn't all you can do with this setting. As there are many questions regarding Lunea (why is it perpetually dark in that place? Why wasn't it found earlier, what concealed it? Is humanity able to map it?), there would be many people trying to answer them. If, say, some researchers were killed by the wilds, the players could happen upon their research and continue it while learning more of Lunea.

I'm also curious to learn of what the humans know of the landscape of Lunea. How long ago exactly did the humans arrive, and how much of it have they explored? I assume it may have been some time, if the characters could be normal citizens - because that would mean that the humans settled down in a city. If not, they would have to be scientists or geographers or any other type of researcher that arrived with a group on Lunea.

And what of the wild Pokemon? Are they dark-oriented? Do they have any special features that set them apart from the rest, apart from them being bloodthirsty? How did they defy the light that was supposed to keep them away, and why were they kept away from it in the first place?

Admittedly, your setting has sparked many questions in me, but I think you've made the start towards a solid story.

While I think this is a great RP idea, I am really curious as to see how you would go about setting restrictions for players, and how you would incorporate a starter Pokemon into a ravenous continent. Message me if you want to expand upon it. I would also like to see some more plot, such as the backstory as to why these pokemon are vicious. This is only a suggestion, no need to take me up on it. You have a good day now.

Glad to see you like the concept, and I'll be sure to check out the thread you linked.

It'd be cool if you blasted us with some plot - were there any operations the humans running? Any notable people, leaders of expeditions that survived?
The most part of human operation is in the field of research. When humans turned up, apart from the violent pokémon, there was something else amiss - the bodies of dead pokémon were very commonly found around Lunea - more than any natural phenomenon should kill, some fresh corpses and some old husks, but almost all without wounds that one would expect from fighting - most scientists are trying to find out what is killing the wild Pokémon in Lunea. As for the expeditions bit, the more well known one is of David Blackwood - but only because he charged in with a team of elite trainers before any formal expeditions had been mounted. He's been unheard from seen since he left.

Had they tried to contact the outside world conventionally? What about now, is communication available?
All you can be sure of is that communications in Daybreak City are down, as the rest of the power is. Before the disaster, Lunea was in regular contact with the mainland.

I think mainly trying to find a way back home isn't all you can do with this setting. As there are many questions regarding Lunea
There are, and I'll address them one-by-one.

why is it perpetually dark in that place? Why wasn't it found earlier, what concealed it?
Both spoilers. I can't say.

Is humanity able to map it?
There has been some limited mapping - Humans have only spread to the southern parts of the isle, leaving the entire north unmapped due to the dangers.

there would be many people trying to answer them. If, say, some researchers were killed by the wilds, the players could happen upon their research and continue it while learning more of Lunea.
There is also a good chance that players are some of the researchers. But there will certainly be artifacts of many kinds to discover and the darkness of Lunea's veil of secrecy is not iron-clad... the players will certainly know more about Lunea as the plot progresses.

And what of the wild Pokemon? Are they dark-oriented? Do they have any special features that set them apart from the rest, apart from them being bloodthirsty?
Pokémon in Lunea have about the same kind of species spread that any other region would have and for the most part aren't all that special - although Lunea's past has created some.... standout pokémon, shall we call them? Not saying any more, because spoilers.

How did they defy the light that was supposed to keep them away, and why were they kept away from it in the first place?
The light that kept them away is suspected to work by simply taking advantage of the pokémon being night-adjusted to the point that any source of light causes illness in a Lunean pokémon.

I'm also curious to learn of what the humans know of the landscape of Lunea. How long ago exactly did the humans arrive, and how much of it have they explored?
I mentioned in the plot, 10 yrs ago the humans arrived - this means that no character in the RP is going to be a native to the island. Similarly, the environment of Lunea is pretty diverse, in human-known territory, although we don't quite have snowtops and deserts next to each other, we can have some places with quite different ecosystems. Should be more info on that come the RP itself.

I assume it may have been some time, if the characters could be normal citizens - because that would mean that the humans settled down in a city. If not, they would have to be scientists or geographers or any other type of researcher that arrived with a group on Lunea.
That's not the only kind of person that showed up. Think about it, a land known to have lots of dangerous pokémon? At the very least you have trainers being employed and brought in as bodyguards to the researchers - not to mention a kind of extreme tourism has become popular of elite trainers purposely going into the wilds of Lunea. They even have experiments to do with Lunea truly being habitable or otherwise, where they've brought in citizens from other regions - if you can think of a good reason to add your character into Lunea, then fire at will.

Admittedly, your setting has sparked many questions in me, but I think you've made the start towards a solid story.
and once again, thanks a load for the feedback Ray!

While I think this is a great RP idea, I am really curious as to see how you would go about setting restrictions for players, and how you would incorporate a starter Pokemon into a ravenous continent.
Well, simply put I won't be incorporating starters. I'd like to stress that I am not making a journey RP out of this - if the players so wish they can even have a team of up to six pokémon like the actual games (although with the PC network down in the disaster, no more than that), but I would forewarn anyone that a strong team is not necessarily an advantage.

Message me if you want to expand upon it. I would also like to see some more plot, such as the backstory as to why these pokemon are vicious. This is only a suggestion, no need to take me up on it. You have a good day now.
I appreciate the offer, but I seem to have inadvertently found a partner for this yesterday thanks to that miracle that is Skype. And as I said previously in this post, I can't tell you why they're violent - you're not meant to know when the RP starts...

Here's the completed version of one of the roleplays I posted here a little while ago. Some things are still subject to change, such as the possibly over sized playable map, and I don't think I'll be posting it just yet, as I'm not sure if the proper audience is available to partake in it. Just to avoid any misconceptions, it is a play as pokémon roleplay.

To Save a World

An apocalypse is coming. The pokémon world will soon come to an end. There is but one hope: a secret that's been lost to the folds of time. Now war has come upon the lands of Elpída, and its citizens are beginning to lose what little hope they've so far managed to cling to.

The year is 1049 After Genesis, and the countdown until the end has begun. The prophecies have always foretold it, and the word of the Disciples of Arceus is holy law. It is stated in the prophecies that in the first days of the year 1050, Arceus shall descend upon the continent of Arconesia and pass his divine judgment upon the land. The text also states that it is possible to sway Arceus's judgment, but do not explain how to do this, and there are no records to indicate what should be done. Due to this, the land of Arconesia is spiraling into turmoil as its residents scramble to save their souls. Some have turned to prayer, others have turned to violence, and those that either don't care about their souls or don't believe in the prophecies have either chosen to take advantage of the resulting fear or have decided to ignore the events altogether. One thing is certain: Arconesia is in flames, and the Elpídian Empire is falling apart. Now the empire faces both the threat of the end of the world, and its enemies taking advantage of its current state of weakness.

An Imperial History

According to legend, Arconesia was the original continent: the first place in this world created by Arceus, and the epicenter of the globe's expansion. That was a thousand years ago; the moment of Genesis. Moments after he created the world, Arceus breathed life into it, giving birth to the first pokémon, Mew. Mew would then bring forth all other pokémon, filling the world with the children of Arceus. They quickly spread across the planet and made it their own, forming societies and bringing rise to nations. In the beginning, Arconesia itself was home to six separate nations; the six holy cathedrals, otherwise known as the Shatarcas. These nations were governed by the Arcanian Vestals: eighteen women that held the divine mandate of Arceus himself. They were his chosen guardians, and each of the six holy Shatarcas was ruled by a trinity of Vestals. The Vestals would go on to form the Disciples of Arceus, a brotherhood of devout followers that would hone their abilities through prayer and learn to influence the natural environments of the world.

After four hundred years with no appearance from Arceus, however, the Disciples began to lose followers. Pokémon weren't as pious as they once had been, and even though many of them still believed in Arceus and the teachings of the Disciples, they had become detached. Eventually some began to doubt, and others stepped forward to exploit such doubt to further their own motives. One thing led to another and eventually war broke out. Usurpers to the thrones of the Vestals gained power, and when they had amassed enough followers they challenged the rule of these holy maidens. Not at all versed in the art of war, the maidens stood little chance at defending themselves. It was not long before most of them had been slain, and new "Kings" seized power over the Shatarcas. The Disciples lost control over government affairs, but even the new power hungry rulers dared not try and eradicate them. And so the Disciples continued their roles as holy emissaries, and the nations entered into the mundane ruling of monarchies.

Of course, power hungry as they were, the rulers of each nation thought to expand their own boundaries. This led to further conflict between them, resulting in the deaths of millions of pokémon. Eventually the nation of Elpída came out victorious, creating the Elpídian Empire. The other surviving rulers remained, but they were forced to swear fealty to the Emperor. The Empire welcomed sects of the Disciples back into power, seeking to maintain some amount of connection with Arceus, and so it has been for the last seven hundred years.

The Land of Arconesia

Spoiler:

Located at the southern tip of Arconesia is the land of Elpída, ruling nation of the Elpídian Empire. The capital city of Tigretia sits in the plains area, at the center of the nation. The southern half of the nation is covered in forests, where three of its major cities lie. Four more major cities can be found to the west, surrounding the lake nation of Lemuria. To the north lies the Crescent Mountains, as well as one of the three major entrances to the Prism Labyrinth: a cave system that runs beneath the mountain range and connects the lands of Arconesia. Pokémon of all types call this nation their home.

Major Landmarks: Tigretia, Agatia, Citria, Chalcedonia, Aventia, Amethine, Onyxia, Quartz City, Silica Forest

To the west is the Verdean Peninsula. Verdea is a forest nation, home primarily to bug, grass, poison, and flying pokémon. It's split by the largest river in Arconesia, and it's capital city of Nephritia is built on the east end of Jade Lake, where the river ends. The citizens of Verdea are very well adapted to their environment, with their architecture and culture blending perfectly with the natural world. They are incredibly resourceful creatures, and they're masters of medicinal arts. Other than by water or air, the only way to access the nation is through the Prism Labyrinth. It has five major cities beyond its capital, scattered about the peninsula.

Major Landmarks: Nephritia, Tourmalda, Peridin, Prehna, Emera, Tanzan, Jade River

Enclosed by the Crescent Mountains and the lands of Elpída is the Lake of Lemuria, which is its own nation. It has one city, the eponymous Lemuria, which sits in the center of the lake, both above and below. It's home to mostly water pokémon, and though it sits alone, its warriors are the most highly trained in all of Arconesia.

Major Landmarks: City of Lemuria, Sapphire Armory

Due to the Crescent Mountain range's effect on the travel of rain clouds, the land immediately east of the range is desert. Despite its harsh conditions, many pokémon find it to be a fitting home. The desert composes the nation of Érimia, which is home primarily to ground, rock, steel, and fire pokémon. The desert has one major oasis, formed by the Topaz River, sister to Verdea's Jade River. The capital city of Sun's Blight lies not far from this oasis, as does the third and final entrance to the Prism Labyrinth. All of these things exist within the Valley of the Moons, formed by two arms of the Crescent Mountains. Érimia has four cities beyond its capital, three of which lie at the edge of the desert.

Major Landmarks: Sun's Blight, Crater, Moonrise, Stonefall, Sandlight, Topaz Oasis

To the northeast lie the Aldrian Steppes. Aldria is composed almost entirely of plains, and the majority is inhabited by normal, fighting, electric, and psychic pokémon. It has only three cities beyond its capital. It's home to Arconesia's greatest scholars, and its warriors have an excellent balance in physical and mental training. It's relationships with the other nations are strained, but as no other library in all of Arconesia, except perhaps the Royal Elpídian Library, comes close to the amount of knowledge stored in Aldria, the other nations tolerate it.

Major Landmarks: Morgan, Spinelia, Kunza, Andesta, Athenaeum of Aldria

In the northwest are the wastelands of Fotiá, where criminals are exiled. It was deserted years ago when Arconesia's sole volcano erupted and left the area inhospitable. It has regained some amount of fertility, but just enough to keep the outcasts of Arconesian society alive, unless they kill each other, of course. It has three settlements beyond its "capital." Its west coast has turned to desert, and the Carnelian Volcano sits dormant. Dark pokémon seem to be drawn to this area.

Major Landmarks: Pyritia Ruins, Garnet, Ruby, Rust, Carnelian Volcano

Factions

Every faction is playable, with four ranks available to play as: three main ranks and one special rank. There may be other ranks involved in their faction, but only those listed are eligible to be signed up for.

The Imperial Legion

Soldiers serving under the main banner of the Elpídian Empire. Any pokémon is eligible to join, so long as they show some amount of potential and can pass entrance examinations. The training regiment is broad, but intense, producing skilled warriors with a wide range of abilities. Those with particular talents may be inducted into more elite forces, with the most highly skilled composing the King's personal regiment. The King is the absolute ruler of the army, with his heirs holding the most power beneath him. Under them are five Generals, one from each nation other than Fotiá, which each command a large portion of the military. The forces are further divided into squadrons, which are each led by a Grandmaster. The Legion has four sub sects, for the four nations in the Empire beyond Elpída.

The Aldrian Military

Soldiers hailing from the Aldrian Steppes. They are a sect of the Imperial Legion, but as is with each sect from the nations beyond Elpída, they are trained separately and differently from soldiers in the other nations. Aldrian soldiers specialize in styles combining mental and physical strength, and so only pokémon with strong psyches are permitted to join. They spend equal time honing their minds as they do perfecting their battle skills, focusing especially on loyalty and self control. Only loyal soldiers that prove their strength of will are eligible for promotion, and with a high enough rank they may be given access to special knowledge within the Aldrian Archives. Their best soldiers are renowned for their great minds and unsurpassed tactical abilities. They have a unique rank in Mystics, which are pokémon highly talented in the arts of divination.

The Verdean Warriors

Soldiers training in the vast forests of Verdea. They are trained to be masters of camouflage, hunting, and identifiers of plants and herbs of various uses, particularly medical. Initiates are judged based on their resourcefulness, and those that past the test are taught how to take their skills to far greater levels. They favor guerrilla warfare and are swift in their movements. Bulkier pokémon serve as sentinels, protecting their cities and squadrons. Only the most cunning of warriors are eligible for promotion, and their Generals are widely known for such genius. Their special rank is that of the Guardian, which is a title given to those highly in tune with the natural world, and those with this title have the innate ability to access mysterious chambers around Arconesia, which contain various secrets and powers.

The Knights of Lemuria

Warriors like no other, Lemurian Legionnaires are almost all water pokémon. They rarely leave their home beneath the waves, so their training methods aren't widely known beyond Lemuria, except among the highest ranking officials. There are no deadlier warriors above or below the waves, and even on land they are formidable opponents. They are known for their resilience and unique fighting styles, which include various armored styles and the combination of weapons and regular attacks. It's said that their Generals can't even be touched on the field of battle, dishing out blows unlike any other. Of particular interest are their Leviathans: warriors said to know how to access the deepest secrets of the ocean.

The Sand Runners

Soldiers from the deserts of Érimia. They're hardened pokémon that have proven themselves worthy of the harsh conditions of the desert. Most of them are native, as it takes an impressive feat for an outsider to be welcomed into their folds. They are the best at surviving on the least, and have trained themselves to continue long periods without nourishment should the need arise. They can spot life even in the most barren of areas, and they know how to ration to keep resources going for the longest possible time. They're also known for having developed Sand Runners, which provide quick and easy transport across the sands. They're Generals are the most steadfast warriors out there, and their Banshee warriors are both astounding navigators and excellent engineers, on top of being the most ruthless soldiers in the Legion.

The Wastelanders

Outlaws living in the ruined lands of Fotiá in the northwest. They can be any pokémon of various skills and talents. The only thing they really need to have in common with one another is that they did, or were accused of, some crime that got them exiled to the wastelands, and those types of crimes have to be pretty serious or otherwise extensive. The Wastelanders have their own ranking system, including Pups, akin to normal soldiers; Wolves, similar to Grandmasters; and Hellhounds, taking on the role of Generals. There's also a Deathhound rank, reserved for the Wastelanders' personal assassins.

The Disciples of Arceus

Devout followers of the one true God and his children. Most of them are typically raised as Disciples, but very few may only begin their worship later in life. They're found all across Arconesia, in every region and social class. In some places they're respected, and others they are scorned. No matter the case, they follow their lord and chosen deity with all of their beings. While they all answer to Arceus above all other deities, they can follow the path of any of Arceus' brethren that dwell within his Hall. Though the vestals and disciples were removed from rule centuries ago, the disciples still hold some amount of influence over political matters. Their three main ranks include Monks, Priests, and Vigilants. The Archbishop presides over them, in the absence of the vestals.

The Shadow Guild

Criminals, the lot of 'em. But unlike the Wastelanders, they keep to the shadows, and they don't get caught. If they do, they don't reveal their secrets. They're comprised mostly of thieves, and they operate all over Arconesia. They follow strict codes, a sort of honor among thieves, and any who go against these codes are ejected from the brotherhood. They have hidden strongholds in every city, as well as in the wilderness of every nation. They are masters of stealth, and have so far managed to avoid detection by any of the governments of Arconesia. Their three main ranks include Shade, Den Master, and Blackwing. Their leader is known as the Dark Panther, and though his identity is unknown, there's no doubt the whoever holds the title is the greatest thief in the world. Anyone that displays an aptitude may seek membership, but only those truly gifted in th arts of thievery and also hold themselves with honor may join and rise through the ranks.

The Reaper's Claws

One thing to know about this friendly little brotherhood: they've a penchant for murder. Suffice to say they've left Arceus' good graces, and they don't really care. The Reapers are trained assassins, and they have the resources to do whatever is necessary to carry out a job. They're also a strict brotherhood, and they will slaughter anyone that tries to harm them or their brethren. They worship the god of death and destruction, Yveltal, albeit to varying degrees. Some see Yveltal as a sort of messiah, whereas others just use him as reason to commit murder. Whatever their motives, they're murderers, and they're good at what they do. They're main ranks include Initiate, the newest additions to their clan; Associate, who have passed initiation; and Graduates, who have ascended into the top rungs of the Reapers' hierarchy. They also have an elitist group of assassins known as the Obliviates, and they are the deadliest of killers in all of Arconesia.

What Will You Do?

At half past eleven, the fire falls:
The children of the lord will beck to his call.
When the end is nigh, and children weep,
The Warriors come to defend their keep,
When Shadows spread across all the land
And kingdoms fall by the Reaper's hand,
He will appear in the rainbow place
And decide then who deserves his grace.

Should they show themselves to be unworthy
They shall fall beneath his righteous fury.
But should they prove themselves deserving
They will be freed from a life of serving:
For when God descends upon this world
He will smite the evils that hath unfurled.
To sway his Judgment o'er their lives,
The few will have to greet Demise.
-Ancient Scrolls of the Disciples

So hopefully you'll avert the apocalypse! How will you do it? Well, that's the part that's up for debate: no one really seems to know exactly what they're supposed to do to save their souls. Because of that, they're kind of doing a little bit of everything, including going to war.

As for you, you'll either be a soldier from one of the Shatarcas, a Disciple, a thief, an assassin, or a common criminal. You'll have your own reasons and motives for everything you do, and there won't really be a right or a wrong path to take towards salvation—or destruction. Whoever you are and whatever your goals, something has brought you to Tigretia, the capital of the Empire. Here you will begin your journey towards saving the world or bringing about its destruction, in whatever way you see fit, both directly and indirectly.

There's one year left before Arceus descends upon this world, and the royal family isn't ignoring this deadline. It's rumored that they plan on making some sort of announcement at this year's Festival of Colors, and it's a piece of news that you won't want to miss.

So, this idea has been in the works for quite a while now - It's supposed to be something of a journey rp, in that you go out and collect gym badges and such, but with a bit of a twist to it. Because twists are fun :)

Spoiler:
After the raging storm caused by the vicious struggle between the Sea Basin pokémon, Kyogre, and the Continent pokémon, Groudon ended, quelled by Rayquaza, the Sky High pokémon, Hoenn was left in ruins: Littleroot was levelled, Oldale was obliterated, and so much more. With the gyms smashed (they had been targeted by the team Aqua and Magma grunts, in order to prevent the Leaders and their trainers from meddling with their plans), the Pokémon League could no longer function in the Hoenn region. Indeed, even the starter pokémon were withheld for beginning trainers.

Indeed, for more than ten years, the Hoenn region ceased to be a viable place for pokémon training - almost no new trainers came in, and almost all of the existing ones went elsewhere (those who weren't helping with the rebuilding of the region, anyway). indeed, the wild places of the region, once kept in order by roaming trainers, became wild and untamed.

Even after the rebuilding - even after new gyms were built, and stocked with leaders and trainers, even after the towns were revitalised, the Hoenn region had trouble attracting the attentions of trainers again: it had been a long time since anybody had been there for any kind of pokémon battling purposes. PNot many people returned, even after the reinstatement of the Pokémon League.

So, with the entire region suffering with the lack of trainers (the pokémon battling scene, after all, had been one of its biggest money-gathering ventures), a new model for the league was proposed, by one Arcturius Wynter, a wealthy businessman, who just so happened to be the eighth Gym Leader of Hoenn.

His business model was... Different, that was sure - Instead of just any trainers showing up to challenge the league, a batch of trainers was found, and they'd be accompanied in a televised journey, to collect all of the badges of Hoenn.

Of course, the battles were somewhat spiced up for the audience - Shock collars and special rules certainly made sure of that.

---

Now, where does this leave you? Well, you are a wandering trainer, perhaps hailing from Hoenn, or perhaps someplace else - You entered a lottery drawing, or you volunteered, and received a letter informing you of your acceptance into the new Hoenn League. Said letter contained very few details, but did give you a date and a time - It provided no information on what that entailed: simply a stock congratulations, a date, and a time.

And when that time rolled around? They took you from wherever you were, and got you properly acquainted with both the other trainers, your own personal set of shock collars and bracers, and the additional equipment for the defeated trainers, to boost the shock, and fry them to a burnt crisp.

The risks of the game are great, that much is certain, but the rewards? Well, rumours have it that if you win all eight Hoenn League badges, you're granted audience with a mythical pokémon...

Sounds cool! I like journeys with a twist. Were you planning on making it some sort of chaptered RP or just go along and move from place to place in a simpler fashion?

And also whoa, can players die?

I'll be honest and say I haven't even an inkling as to what a chaptered roleplay is. That said, it'll quite likely be a fairly linear thing, given the setting for it.

And yes, players can, and will die. If I go with the system, I'm thinking of using at the moment, they'll probably get offed at a rate of at least one-per-gym. (That said, they'll probably be some kind of safety net, at least early on - having your character die too early on can be something of a buzz-kill.)

Chaptered is just a tedious term that has grown here :p Check Crossroads for an example. Basically, once you step into the new chapter, you either can't go back or you'll be annoying if you go back. Or something like that.

Okay, that sounds like a challenge :) Yeah, as long as people are prepared that they might have to drop out after a while due to getting killed. Or maybe the dead players could be given another role in the RP?

Ah, well, I'll go check that out :)

And, yeah, I'm going to need to think of something for the players do do if their characters die, that fits the setting. What I have on that front so far is perhaps letting them play random trainers and such who meet the group of surviving player-characters.

But that might not even be necessary - I've run very death-heavy plots before, and people seemed happy to bow out gracefully. It really depends on what people here want.

I was wondering if this makes enough sense. It's a Harry Potter-esque RP I've been thinking of for a while. It won't be about the lectures, it will be about the stuff in between and around. Comments? Does it look finished? (of course there's a SU sheet and descriptions of my own plentiful characters as well)

Curse of Hogwarts

.background
it's been 30 years since Voldemort was defeated. The world has changed in some ways, and stayed the same as ever in other ways. While it's almost certainly a truth that there will always be people in the world with similar thoughts as the last Dark Lord, there has been a movement over the last few years with radical ideas of the quite opposite kind. Organizations have appeared whose main purpose is to convince wizards and witches around the world that it is time to reveal the magic world to the muggles.

some, like the large group by the international name the Inferiors, originating in Japan, try to argue for that the muggles have matured and that their imagination and lifestyle these days could handle the revelation, but that it would have to be done very officially and carefully. But there are other groups, such as the shady Superiors, who want to do it abruptly or at least casually. The Superiors in particular were formed in the United States of America, as a countering to the Inferiors, when the Inferiors failed to get the wizard world hooked on the idea after several years has passed since the initial suggestion.

in the midst of all this, Great Britain and most of northwestern Europe were for long mostly untouched or uninterested by these new ideals. At least officially. But over the past months, there have been some strange arguments going on between representatives of the Inferiors and the Ministry of Magic. For centuries, Hogwarts has been the main place of magical education for all of Great Britain. The Inferiors suggest that Hogwarts lets go of what practically is a monopoly on education, and that new schools are started around the country - with the ultimate goal of mixing magic and muggle children. And for once, the Superiors in Great Britain claim to agree with the Inferiors wholeheartedly...

.plot
a new year is starting at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! It's the 1st of September and all students, new and old, are enjoying their first dinner in the great hall. The teachers and staff are sitting at the honorary table as usual, headmaster Atterswall just having finished his very short welcome speech. You are one of the students sitting at the tables, nervously new or comfortably returning. That is when your world is tossed upside down.

suddenly, one of the seventh year students in Ravenclaw climbs up on his table in the middle of the great hall and hastily chugs down some kind of potion before anyone can stop him. The hall grows dark, except for the skin of the young man, which is now glowing in an eerie, blue light as he starts talking with a booming voice that is surely not his own.

"Our ideals are superior! Hogwarts will fail its mission and end! Curses have been placed on inhabitants of this castle and they will show the world how badly equipped this ancient place is to deal with the future! The future is now and it belongs to all human beings! Hogwarts will fall! The curse of Hogwarts has been cast!"

for a few moments, everything is silent and dark as people try to grasp what has just happened. Then the room turns bright again and the boy tumbles down from the table, unconscious.

what starts as a whisper quickly grows into a roaring, concerned chatter around the hall as teachers rush forward to pick up the Rawenclaw boy. But the headmaster stands up calmly and clears his throat.

"Silence please," he says, not with a particularly raised voice, but everyone seems to hear him clearly and silence falls again. "Prefects, please escort the students of your House back to the dormitories. Now."

as the students start shuffling towards the entrance hall, many groaning from not getting to finish their dessert and others throwing scared looks at each other, headmaster Atterswall calls some of the teachers to him at the honorary table.

"In case something really has been done here, I want you to stay in your respective House tonight," he tells the four heads of the Houses in a low but firm voice. "Keep a watchful eye and be vigilant of any pupil in trouble. Oh and," he adds before they walk away to follow their students, "you'll get tomorrow off. So don't fall asleep!"

meanwhile, as the night begins, you realize that there might actually be a curse put on you. How ever are you going to deal with this?

.clarifications
this is a Harry Potter RP, which completely disregards any canon future after the books. We can of course assume that the Potter kids have come and went at Hogwarts, and possibly that the muggle culture is a bit more advanced but we should mostly just assume that the world looks like what it does now. It just happens to be 30 years later (meaning 2030 somewhere, if you go by the most canonical timeline in the books).

you will mainly play as a student, either a new 11 year or a 17 year old starting their last year, or anything in between. But you may also sign up with a secondary character, if you feel like there would be a NPC you'd feature a lot anyways. They may have a curse too.

that's right. This RP won't just be about going to school at Hogwarts, because how fun would that be really? :) When signing up, you will be inventing some kind of curse or bothersome power that your character discovers some time in their first days at Hogwarts this semester. You've got free reins, but I'll let you know if I want you to tweak your curse somehow. Be creative, make things interesting!

I will play the staff of Hogwarts and probably toss in some other kids now and then, both with curses and without them. Naturally, the staff will be working with protecting the students from whatever mess their curses might create, and also towards finding out how to get rid of them and how they were really cast. The biggest question is not exactly who did it... It's only a matter of time before the Ministry of Magic finds out about this and things will start to stir unpleasantly in this part of the world. Get ready.

- Classes will usually be between 8-10, 10-12 and 13-15 IC, with club activities 16-18 or 19-21 with dinner at 18. But most likely we'll just mention stuff from classes, having you briefly recap your characters thoughts or actions there, and let the main RPing be in between and afterwards. Nice to hear :) but I'm worried I wouldn't be able to run a school RP. Never tried it before (but some time has got to be the first!). So I really don't want to RP classes and let them take weeks of OOC time.

Avoiding classes is a sensible idea, in the past players in GH have had differing views on them - meaning some were done with them after a day whereas others were still in class two weeks later. Much more easily manageable if a vague outline is given and the focus is thrown on what happens between/afterwards.

What did you have in mind for the curses? Reading what's there so far I wasn't really sure how serious these curses are going to be, and how they will manifest.

You'll invent your own curse. Examples off my head... Sneezing will cause a minor storm? Being transformed into a lizard humanoid? Touching others causes pain? Suddenly being invisible and can only be heard? Inability to put your feet on the ground so you have to levitate around etc. I'd be excited to see what people could come up with.

So, not deadly serious. Unless a player gets a really good idea for something that can stir up a mess in the castle and create sideplots :D

@gira - Well considering you wrote that on a dsi it's understandable, but unfortunately there's a long way to go with that.

The story itself seems interesting, although it could do with a fair bit of fleshing out. Mystery Dungeon RPs seem to be pretty well received here so that's not a bad choice at all, especially if your plot can back up the interest that would likely get,

Really the problems you have are
1. Not enough detail and
2. Rules/Sign-up sheet are absent.

I haven't seen you around here before so I'm assuming you're pretty new to RPing. I'd recommend reading through the sections rules, taking a look at some other RP threads for inspiration and clarification and then writing that up on a computer with some more detail. Once you've done that I think you'll have quite the RP on your hands. What you have now is just a summary, but from the summary I think the RP will do well.

Hey, here is my proposed scenario for a RP story

160 years before the events of Pokémon as we know the today, the regions were caught in the web of ever rising conflict…

Rival nations, Johto and Kanto, have been competing for centuries. At times the tensions have risen to the waging of wars between them. Bad economics, unscrupulous trade, spreading disease, and idea theft has been enough to spark high tensions between these two.

Recently, an unknown Pokémon (Mew) has disabled all the automated weaponry on both sides. (However machines are still usable, such as cars.) Being stranded without weapons, both countries have seen a lull in war. It has been 30 years since the last all-out war, but there is still enough mistrust within living generations to spark the fire. Moreover, the independent actions of occasional guerrilla fighter skirmishes keep tensions high.

In fear of their neighbouring country, Johto sought out a new form of protection: Pokémon.

Up until now, people lived in fear of Pokémon. They were treated like monsters. But since the invention of the Pokéball from Johto, Pokémon can now be tamed. With this they now have a new method to fight. And each side is willing to toss aside old fears to continue the battle.

Although armies were being trained, neither side was willing to make the first move. This changed when an anonymous attack was shot out. This was all that was needed to spark the enemy country’s distrust, and thus they were plunged back into a new age of war.

It it now your duty to choose to fight for Kanto or Johto, and build up your pokémon army. Choose a side and your faction (navy, air force or army) and prepare for the war of the century.

Sorry for the long post, I don't know how to do the spoiler tab thing.

Cheers

Kirky

Alright, here is my idea for a roleplay. If this ever does come onto the forum, it probably wont be for a while, it would take a bit of preparation. Source material for the topic is from a PS Vita game called Danganronpa, and I am still debating whether or not to tie it into pokemon in some way (although I probably will).

Spoiler:
16 trainers are invited to attend an elite academy for training pokemon (yet to be named, I dunno yet), and each trainer is considered the best in their type. Each trainer trains for the most part one type of pokemon, and each year the academy invites only the best for each type.

After each trainer gets there, they pass out and wake up somewhere else in the school to find their pokemon missing, and steel plates over all of the windows and exits, essentially trapping them inside the school. They all meet up with each other in the main hall, meet each other, etc.

Then the game really begins as the mastermind shows themselves to the students through a puppet (In the game it is a creppy robotic bear, I was thinking along the same lines, but a robotic Mew). The mastermind reveals that they are trapped inside the school, and that they are unable to leave under any circumstances. The only exception to the rule is that a student can "graduate" from the academy by murdering another student, and getting away with it.

The roleplay would consist of a basic format of the daily life in the school for a while, getting to know each other until eventually one of the students decides to murder another in an attempt to escape. At that point, the students would investigate the murder, finding clues that I would provide. Once all the clues were found, a trial would begin where the roleplayers would debate who they think committed the murder. I would try to nudge them in the right direction with the npcs, but I would let them at it for the most part. If the murderer was discovered, they would be executed, but if the murderer gets away with it, they are released and all of the other students are executed instead.

The first couple murders I would encourage the roleplayers to allow the npcs to do the murdering, but after a couple, well....there is always a possibility. And I would definitely allow one of the players to win if they got away with it.

Issues: Murder cases. Most of the scenarios would have to be thought up before hand. Fortunately I do enjoy murder mysteries! :D

Number of roleplayers. I would probably limit this to about 6 maximum. Any more and problems with other playable characters could arise.

Player retention. IF a player drops out, that could cause problems, although they could just become an npc for me to manipulate.

Its a bit of a dark topic, but I thought that it deserved a roleplay. Its very much a rough draft at the moment, and will require a lot of work before it even gets put up. I guess this is mostly asking if this is anything someone would be interested in.

That sounds interesting, but you're going to have to put a lot of faith in the roleplayers to not metagame. :P

Very true, metagaming would be a slight issue. However, I've come up with a couple of murder cases, and I plan to come up with them all on my own. That way, nobody can just google the answers.

Also, it would be impossible to stop people from discussing amongst themselves in PM or skype or something, although it would be hard to trust anyone else in a private discussion, because they could be lying to you and really be a murderer. When you cant trust anyone, things get interesting.

I like this idea and would probably try to join if you made it. Just one questions what would you do if the players got one wrong really early on? Even if you restarted it could be a bit of a mood killer if the players got the first one wrong for instance.

This has a lot of bloodshed times ahead... And it's perfect for this month of October! If I didn't know any better, I would call it The Month of Horrors :) But still, the doll scene reminds me a lot about the Conjuring for no apparent reason, but the plot just has to be good!
Train them please!

I suppose there is always the risk of that happening, although with the number of npcs I could start with, I could skew the vote a bit. But I would also use the npcs to kinda guide them through the first couple cases. Once enough npcs died, they would kinda have to do it on their own, but by then hopefully they kinda figured out how things work.

Oh yes, quite creepy, and I love it!
