I'm probably not even going to bother playing the XV demo when I get Type 0, to be honest - it looks absolutely awful. I'm getting Type 0 because I'm intrigued to see if it actually warranted an HD upgrade, and because I need more PS4 games, not for a demo of a game that, by all accounts, is going to be extremely disappointing.

As for the XIII trilogy...I didn't hate them as games - I've played worse - but I did hate the cast. XIII would have been so much better if it had a proper antagonist, and XIII-2 would have been better if Hope hadn't been in it. Lightning Returns I'd stopped caring by that point and just concentrated on playing it, rather than trying to make sense of a story that made absolutely no sense. xD
I agree with pretty much everything you said about XIII, but I'm confused as to why you think XV looks absolutely awful and why do you think it will be extremely disappointing? With what's been released so far it actually looks like it might be the game we've been waiting for since the merge of Enix and Squaresoft.

Primarily because I don't like the look of the battle system, or the "guys on a road trip" feel that it has with its cast; it doesn't appeal to me at all. Square Enix have been all about style over substance for years, and I've come to, if not accept it, then at least expect it, but I was hoping for at least a decent female central protagonist this time around...we haven't really had one since Ashe in FFXII.

I can understand that. I personally thought the battle system was one of the main selling points to the game, as it has since XII. And hopefully they realize that "Lol my town got rekt lets go on a roadtrip" isn't an acceptable theme for a game and add more to it. Hopefully. We really can't get all that we want in a game, or else everyone would stop buying them because it's literally all downhill from there.

True enough; going into any game with expectations is a bad idea. But it cuts both ways - I don't think this is going to be the Final Fantasy game everyone is hoping it will be. People have been going on about FF being "dead" since X, or VII, or any other instalment, and I don't think Square Enix are about to miraculously change direction and start making "classic" RPGs again.

I don't think XV will be entirely without merit - no FF game has been, not even the almost universally hated XIII trilogy - but if I have any expectations, it's that it'll be just another JRPG in a long line of them; nothing exceptional, and certainly nothing memorable. I think Type 0 has far more potential than XV does based on the information provided, though.

It's only $20 right? How many hours would you say it takes to beat the game?
12 hours if you are going for complete achievement list, probably less if you don't care.

Is anyone else annoyed that we may never see a release of The Last Guardian?
Don't worry, there is still time before PS6 comes out.

I hope most people that buy Type-0 HD, don't disregard it for the XV demo.
Type-0 > XV not matter how XV ends up.

Very simple question: do controllers die?

I wanted to buy a Genesis controller to play on an emulator but these things are so old that I fear they may be dying soon.

Stops working for good.

Button feel isn't as big of a concern to me because you can clean and rebuild the controller if necessary.

In that case, I'm pretty sure that the controllers don't die. I now a couple of years ago I bought a box filled with Genesis stuff. The games that were buried had all been smashed and cords and stuff were cut, frayed and tangled. Altogether the box was filled with junk that had just really not been taken care of. But once I had patched it up (all I really did was take some electrical tape to the cord) it still worked just fine. Stuff back then was really built to last.

I had an Xbox 360 controller break once. It came with Bayonetta back when I first got my system. I used it for all of two months and then literally none of the buttons would register that something was going on. Other than that the only controller I have that's anywhere close to maybe dying is my PS2 controller that I've had since I bought my fat PS2 way back when. That thing has seen some play and it's about ready to retire. The right joystick has been sticking some lately and I'm sure I could fix it, but once I took it apart I doubt I'd ever end up getting it back together lol.

Make sure you take care of your controllers, kids. The price of them isn't like the good ol' '00 days, as they are ridiculously expensive today ($50 I believe.) That's why I do my best to care of my controllers, although granted one time I completely destroyed my N64 controller when my TV fell on top of it. Nonetheless, I'm happy that it was only the controller that was damaged and not the TV.

Yeah, controllers these days are more expensive than games usually. A new Gamecube controller cost me £25 back then. A new PS4 controller now would cost £50. That's some ridiculous price inflation. But then, it's happened to games as well...RRP used to be about £25, and now it's gone up to anywhere between £50-60. No wonder they say gaming is a rich man's hobby.

A couple of my controllers are in a state where they mostly work but then there's a slight problem with them that makes you kinda not wanna use it, like one of them, the control stick kinda wants to do its own thing and make everything go to the left a bit....

But playing Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles by yourself was so damn frustrating. xD
I put 30-something in-game years into that game. 99% of it done by myself. Then there's like PSO which is kinda the same deal where it was more meant to be played online/with other people but i never played it online and 95% of the time I'd be going solo.
.....there might be something wrong with me

And that right there is why I haven't bought anything "new" in a while. I get most of my games from local used game stores because even their new releases are around 10 or 15 dollars cheaper than other places. And if I ever start getting to the point that I need a new controller for something I search goodwill and craigslist. I am not paying some outrageous price for a controller. I'd just as quick hook up a guitar hero controller to play Dark Souls........

You have a phenomenal amount of patience...I got so sick of waiting for my moogle to catch up with me, or demanding that I take the chalice from it. The Goblin Wall was the last straw for me; that was as far as I got by myself. Maybe I was just extremely impatient, but I enjoyed it quite a bit when I played it with a friend, when we could swap chalice duty as and when. The DS titles were fantastic as well. Shame about the Wii version, though. The less said about Crystal Bearers, the better. xD

I don't think I've ever had a console controller break, so I wouldn't know the prices of controllers between then and now. The prices you people list do seem a bit extreme though, ouch. :X Only time I've had to buy a new controller was for my ps2, and that was when I lost my original one (found it right after I bought the new one, go figure). I don't even remember the price for that one, can't have been too bad if I don't recall.

Speaking of controllers, I went out yesterday and bought a cheap gamepad. Oh my god why did I not think of doing this before this is awesome.

Yeah, pretty much just a USB controller.

And this one I'm not going to accidentally gum up the buttons somehow. <_<

Aah, consoles...

the last time I was active with a console was with a SEGA Genesis and my little mini TV. There was something about playing it for real that just didn't match up with emulation.

There's also Columns III for the Genesis and this XS Junior League Dodgeball game for the PSX, and that's about it. I'd rather PC game with what's out for the new consoles and stuff, for performance/$. But I'd still use a console controller.

I can't imagine going without a console for that long...even though I came very late into consoles due to lack of funds. I didn't get a PS2 until 2005 or thereabouts, I think. Money was tight back then, and I had to make do with handhelds...not that I minded. I've always preferred handheld games <3

On a minor note, people are selling their FFXV demo codes for half the price of Type 0 HD on eBay right now...I know what I'll be doing with mine if/when it comes later on today, aha.

After hearing that Kojima is leaving Konami after MGSV, I think it's safe to say that he isn't trolling this time with previous installments, and that MGSV will be indeed his last Metal Gear. This has me thinking if Sakurai's statement of Smash 4 being his last game in the series also holds water.
