What are your overall opinion on video game sequels? Do you enjoy playing them? If so, then how much--more than the original, or just as equal? There's a ton of great games out there left with no continuation at all; no sequels. Which game do you think truly deserves one? Why do you think that? What are some features that you'd like to see in it? How would you expect the storyline to turn out? d:

I tend to be really weary of sequels, you end up enjoying the first one SO MUCH you create an impossibly high bar for the game to hit. Not to mention it becomes murky water when you want the game to not be the same thing, but you don't want them to change the good bits. I've had good and bad run ins with sequels, I loved Resident Evil 2 but I wasn't as fond of Skyrim as many others. It depends exactly...what they change, how much they try to make it more accessible and simple for people.
Some are good and some are terrible... For instance i LOVE Red Alert 2. It offers so much more than RA1 did and it was better in all perspectives. Tiberian Sun (hell, all Westwood sequels were great) is also a great example for the exact same reason. Borderlands 2 even gained a storyline that Borderlands 1 was missing.

But then there are also sequels who try too hard to be better than the original and fail completely at that.

Hm, the only direct sequel I've played and own is Final Fantasy X-2. Compared to the FFX, I enjoyed the levelling mechanics with the sphere grid, but at the same time I actually didn't mind having all those dresspheres to play around with. Basically, I'm on the fence about sequels and generally will only play the main game. And speaking of sequels, there's been rumours about one for The Last of Us and personally I don't think it needs one \:

Slightly off-topic, but Crisis Core is definitely my favourite prequel :D

I get iffy about sequels, because a lot of them don't live up to the first's hype sadly. Gears of War, Halo, and of course Portal have some of the best sequels I have ever played. I huge disappointment was Final Fantasy X2 and 13-2. I've learned my lesson on buying FF games with '2' in the name now.

For me, it really depends. If the squeal's got good storyline, graphics, etc., then I'll enjoy it as much as original. Maybe more. If it doesn't, though, then maybe I won't. One game that I'd really like to see a squeal to is Legend of Zelda: Major's Mask. The game was very fun to play, and if done right, its sequel could be even more fun. Along with this, another would be F-Zero GX.

Depends on the sequel... if it's story sequel, I love them because I can continue the story but there aren't many games like this... But there are some =D It doesn't have to have the same cast but if some older characters appear, I consider it to be story sequel =D
As for sequels with standalone story, If it has some improvements then I'll gladly play it =D
If I really like a series, I will play every sequel, prequel, whatever due to respect to the series =)

Completely forgot that I have that game too! D: I actually quite enjoyed 13-2 in comparison to the original \: Not only did I only like the characters, Serah and Noel, but I wasn't forced to use certain characters in the beginning of the game due to events like 13 did.

FFTA2 was just as good, if not better, than the first FFTA, IMO. =)

Let's see now, rarely have I been disappointed with sequels. Skyrim, Diablo 3, The Sims 3, Anno 2070, Rune Factory 3 and Etrian Oddysey 3, those were all pretty damn good games.

Oh wait there were a few notable letdowns! Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon, was really disappointing to me. Graphics sucked compared to the GBA versions, and the story was lame as well. Advance Wars: Days of Ruin wasn't the best of the series either...
