Hi all :) This is a neat little section. A lot of you know a fair bit about me, but I'm sure the vast majority of you have never heard of me :P So I'll say a few basic things, and you can ask me whatever you want!

My name is Catherine, I'm a total nerd in every way you could possibly imagine. I'm totally into anime, manga, video games, science fiction, and most anything computer related. I'm also a programmer, and I occasionally work on random programming projects to keep my skills up and stay in practice. I've been playing Pokemon since it first came out in the United States, and have been playing it ever since (even up to today). I loooove music, television, movies, travel, and staying active. I've been to a total of three different countries: the US (my home country), Canada (the country next to my home country. Next to my home city, in fact xD), and Japan (I was an exchange student in Japan for a semester ^^).

So, that's a general summary. God, I'm bad at these x.x If there's any questions, ask away!

Mannn, there's a bunch of other countries I want to go to. Including, but not limited to, China, England, France, Brazil, and Korea. I'd like for my next stop to be France though :)

Here's one:

As an exchange student from Japan, was there anything really awesome or intriguing you saw there that was worth talking about? Any highlights?

Fantastic question! There's quite a few things, actually.

Arcades are still a thing there. Here in the West they're kind of an antiquated concept, and the ones that do exist are very retro and not very modern. In Japan, they're very modernized, with games like Metal Gear Solid and Dragon Ball Z.

Over there, there's like, no shame in an adult playing video games. Lots of times I saw grown men in business suits on the train playing PSP's, which I thought was pretty neat :)

The streets don't have names, which was extremely confusing for me at first. I even got lost coming back from downtown, and I had no idea how to ask for directions because...no street names ><

For some reason, their McDonald's taste better to me. Like they use fresher ingredients or something. And they have shrimp filets on their dollar menu. Pretty tasty :)

And finally, Maid/Butler cafes. It's basically exactly what it sounds like. A restaurant where the serving staff dresses like maids and/or butlers (depending on whether the cafe caters to men or women), and you get one who sits and eats with you and calls you master/mistress throughout your stay. Yup... xD xD xD

Well, we have to be Mawile buddies now.

What did you think of Mawile orginally back in Ruby/Sapphire?

What did you think of Mega Mawile upon reveal?

If you had to become a Pokemon, what would you be? (if it's Mawile, pick another! :P)

Yes, we most certainly do!

I thought it was adorable from the moment I saw it. Despite it being really underpowered battle-wise, mine made it to the hall of fame in Sapphire. She held her own pretty well, too xD

When I first saw it, I was a little meh about it, since I wasn't completely sold on the idea of Mega Evolution in general. I started to warm up to the idea when I actually played the game though, and now Mega Mawile is a staple of my competitive team.

I choose Gothitelle. I'd like to be able to see the future and the past at the same time. It'd work wonders for my decision making :D

Haha no. There was one at my high school before, but ever since it happened The Man made a strict anti-food fight policy.

I like so many xD But my favorite is definitely feminine type of fashion. You know, blouses and skirts and such. I also wear kind of a gothic/punk style occasionally, because black is totally my color :D

It's lovely! It's not much different from the States, but the people tend to be very polite and welcoming :) Where I live, the Canadian side of Niagara Falls has a ton of fun stuff to do--great restaurants and bars and stuff, so me and friends usually end up going there every weekend :)

Haha, they're cool :P My favorite Giraffe is Melman from Madagascar :)

Since there's a lot of new users who can see this thread now, I figure it'd be cool to bump this :3

Hope I'm not totally breaking the rules by doing this...

This one time when me and my mom got lost going to an amusement park in Ontario. We drove around for like an hour until we decided to just go to the movies :P It's a good memory because we're really close and we had fun playing car games and listening to the radio :)

James Franco! I don't know what it is, but he makes every scene that he's in like, 10 times better :D A close second is Nicholas Cage. Not sure why...he's not a good actor, per se, but his performances are always really entertaining xD

I probably already know the answer to this, but I'll just ask anyway:

What political or social ideology do you identify with and what factors determined why?

I'm a libetarian on both accounts. Reason being, I think that in general, the government sucks at getting things done. Any time the government solves one problem, it creates another one in its place. The best way for society's problems to get fixed is for people to stop relying so heavily on politicians and government to solve them, and instead work on solving it themselves. Not enough jobs in your community? Why not start a business so there's more jobs? It's hard work, but hard work is what it takes to fix hard problems. Don't wait for President Whatshisname or Governor Whoever to solve it. Those guy have probably never set foot in your neighborhood and probably know nothing about it other than the fact that it exists, so realistically they're not in a position to address the needs of your community.

Also, I feel strongly in the individual over the collective. I've found that collectivism tends to view people like gears in a machine, that need a leader to force them together in a way that optimizes their total output. I think people are too complex for that. People have way too many wants, needs, desires, feelings, thoughts, philosophies, and personalities for any one person to manage effectively--or even a group of people. Because individuality is the spice of life, right? :)

So yea...that's my political and social ideology wrapped into one :)

Seeing that you were an exchange student over in Japan, I have to ask you this:

What did you want to learn over there, besides their language?

I took mostly engineering classes, which was my major and what my degree is in. At the end of the semester I had to do a project with some other students, which was probably the best practice I got in terms of learning the language and stuff. I had to learn all the technical terms in Japanese and how to write lab reports in Japanese.

I also took a culture class that was held for all the exchange students. It was pretty interesting to learn how Japanese culture differs from western culture. Oh! And I learned that soy sauce ice cream, crazy as it may sound, is delicious. Vegetable flavored donuts are also surprisingly good. I went to a Krispy Kreme donuts in Shibuya and they had celery flavor. Not amazingly delicious, but pretty good :)

Psychological thrillers :) The kinds of movies that make you think and keep you guessing. I also like action movies and comedy movies :)

My degree is in computer engineering, so most of the programming I do is hardware oriented, so most of what I'm experienced in is microcontroller and systems programming. But I've done a bit of everything. I was working on an NES emulator a while ago. I haven't had time to get back around to it yet, but it was a really cool project and I'd like to start it back up whenever I get the chance (I also have a link to the source code on my GitHub if any fellow programmers are interested :)

I know, in order of expertise: C, C++, Java, various Assembly languages, Perl, and Fortran :D I've never found any particular use for Fortran, but I learned it for a programming challenge that my old job was holding at OSCON :)

Actually, I think my hue is closer to brown :P How did I make my choice? Before I was born I flipped a coin. It was between this and being a North American wood worm. Overall I'd say I'm happy with the outcome of that particular gamble.

Here's a question I think you might find interesting:

After being slightly turned off from Pokémon by Black, and having already played Y, what did you think going into White 2? Had you already heard bad things about it? Did you go in expecting it to be even worse? What do you think made you enjoy it even moreso than Y?

Actually, I had very high hope for it going in. I already knew that it fixed most of the things that I didn't like about BW, which are that it was too linear, too story driven, and not enough post game content. And I knew that there are a lot of legendaries available in the post game, so I was excited to catch them so that I could bring them forward to Pokemon Y when Pokemon Bank came out. In the end it exceeded my expectations.

I think I liked it more than Y because honestly, I don't think Y was all that good. It was a great experience on my first playthrough simply for the novelty of playing Pokemon in 3D, but once that wore off the game felt kinda boring. I'm hoping Z will be better in the same way BW 2 was an improvement over BW.
