We have all played them, Water Levels. Some are ok, most of them are a pain to complete.
What is the most annoying/hardest water level you ever had to master?? Are there some you enjoy?

For me, the most hated ones would be the Water Levels from Super Mario Bros. As a kid, i would always get stuck in these and lose all my lifes. As for water challenges that i enjoy, i think the ones in Crash Bandicoot 3 are pretty cool. They are not too hard to navigate in and you can ride this bomb-shooting thingy, so yeah

When it comes to water levels, the one I hate the most is actually a planet. I am talking about Manaan in the first Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic game. The only reason I ever visit that planet is because one of the pieces of the Star Map is located there. Course when it comes to actually find the Star Map piece, one major danger there are the firaxan sharks, which can kill you in one shot.

Actually, I don't usually mind the water temples from the Zelda series. Heck, Wind Waker is one of my favorite titles, and the whole thig's on the water.

BUT. There is one Zelda water-dungeon that I cannot stand, and loathed until the wretched boss was defeated: THE GREAT BAY TEMPLE. From Majora's Mask. Hate it. Hate the puzzles, hate the enemies, hate the mechanics, hate the boss. My least favorite water-anything.

For all you Legend of Zelda fans out there:
Spoiler:

The water level from Banjo Tooie was a disaster, I hated. The controls for swimming under water were reversed from ordinary games so it was difficult trying to adjust accordingly.

I never really had that great hate of water levels that other people have.

I think the most fun that I've ever played are the ones in Ripto's Rage. But I've never played a bad level in the Spyro trilogy.

You know what? This isn't about your feelings. A human life, with all its joys and all its pains, adding up over the course of decades, is worth far more than your brain's feelings of comfort or discomfort with a plan. Does computing the expected utility feel too cold-blooded for your taste? Well, that feeling isn't even a feather in the scales, when a life is at stake. Just shut up and multiply.

I'm gonna be positive and talk about good water levels.

Skyward sword's water level was actually really fun, No annoying gimmicks, The swimming worked wonderfully and the boss was the best in the game.

Jolly Rodger bay in Mario 64, While is isnt my favorite world I still think it's really good and has the best music in the game. (Wet Dry World can die in a fire though)

And Every Water Donkey Kong Country level ever made ever.

And Every Water Donkey Kong Country level ever made ever.
I'm gonna go ahead and narrow that down to DKC2 and DKC Tropical Freeze. DKC1's were so empty and bland whereas DKC3 was too gimmicky....pretty much just like the games themselves, actually.

But yes, Tropical Freeze has the best water levels.

Amiss Abyss is the best water level I ever played.

Rayman Origins has very good water levels too. I don't think I ever really hated water levels, but I always found them to be a bit boring, especially in platformers. Not in the case of DKC2, DKC Tropical Freeze and Rayman Origins though.

Whenever it comes to water levels, there's trouble @[email protected]
The Sparkling Waters World in NSMBU (New Super Mario Bros U), was one of my leasnt favourite levels, especially with the underwater and the cheep cheep ones -_-
Super mario galaxy water levels r extremely irritating as well, with a shortage of air....

I never actually had any problems with water levels... while I don't like water in the real world, I pretty much like water levels in games.

Hardest huh... Let's go with Sound Shapes: Death Mode.

Any Sonic water level was tough as because you could only breathe for a limited time.
Most of the time, I'd die from lack of breath as opposed to getting killed by enemies. xD

I loved the Kirby water levels. I liked how you could use attacks like sword and hammer despite being underwater. They're the best. :)

Sunshine definitely has the water theme going for it but you don't actually go swimming in that game much at all. I can only think of few shine sprites that require it, pretty much all of them having to do with red coins except for that one stupid dental boss.

There's more swimming in Mario 64, ironically.

I suppose yeah, that's the only place with more than one shine sprite that needed swimming. It was three shines, it pretty much has 3/4 of the whole game lol.

Speaking of Mario 64, that one world where you can change the water level Zelda-style was amazing. One of my favorites in that game, it was called Wet-Dry World.

My least favorite water level would have to be Labyrinth Zone from Sonic 1. That music that plays when your about to run of air, it starts to send anyone into a panic to find that elusive air bubble.

Favorite water level is probably anything from Donkey Kong Country. Just great music, great controls and best of all you cant drown.

When it comes to water levels, two games left a positive impression on me.

Super Mario 64 was nice. I didn't like the water levels very much, but the water gameplay was great.

In the fps genre, Duke Nukem 3D had fantastic water gameplay. It was basically the same as on land, except you could swim up and downwards. And the underwater sound effects were epic. :P In the expansion there's a boss you MUST fight underwater, and your time is limited since you can't hold your breath for long and the scuba gear item has limited (albeit long) duration.

I don't know what it is about water levels, I tend to hate most of them, especially if swimming is a pain.

I like the water levels from most Mario games though, the two sticking out the most being Jolly Roger Bay (dat music tho) and Wet-Dry World, both from Super Mario 64.

It's ironic how I water is one of the my favorite themes yet I hate them in video games. The physics tend to be a bit glitchy and have the most annoying enemies to fight while trying to watch the air meter, but they usually have the most relaxing music I've ever heard. The worst water levels I've played so far have been in Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic can't even swim) and I watched an LP for the one in the NES version of Battletoads (a one hit kill rubber duck that can't even be killed).

This might be a copout answer, but what about the first Bioshock?

Although technically speaking you aren't swimming, the game is encompassed in an underwater "utopian" society and is beautiful to move around in. The setting itself adds a lot of mystery and sense of adventure in an unknown setting that I like.

I have to admit though, Donkey Kong Country Returns does probably one of the best jobs with their water levels. They're really fun to go through as the controls are very fluid and the environments are great to go through.

LABYRINTH ZONE ;_;

(that picture shows you what you'll be seeing most in that level.)
This level would have you cutting your ears off, trying to escape that accursed drowning tune. Arrows embedded in the walls, enemies, slow movement speed, different jump physics and water. It was hell underwater.

..at least the music's good. That is, if you didn't hear that damn DROWNING soundtrack all the time :(

River run in Jurassic Park Rampage edition. Overly long level, everything looks the same expect that pipes change color, with Grant it is pain, with Raptor it is pain. And the boss of the stage is nothing special, just move right, turn left shoot, move right and so on.

Ironically the game`s other water stage, cargo ship was one of the best and easily most varied stage in the game.
Only two things are infinite, human stupidity and amount of Zubats that can live in a same cave, and I'm not sure about the former.
