I joined the April Friendly a few hours back and I'm deciding what Pokeon to use for it. Before anyone asks, yes the X/Y mascots, Mewtwo, Zygarde and the Kanto legendary birds are allowed.

Below three are set in stone, pretty much:

Kangaskhan:

-Return
-Power-Up Punch
-Sucker Punch
-Earthquake
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
Item: Kangaskhanite
Ability: Scrappy

Xerneas:

-Moonblast
-Thunderbolt
-Focus Blast
-Megahorn
Nature: Naive
EVs: 76 Atk/180 SAtk/252 Spe
Item: Choice Scarf/Expert Belt

Talonflame:

-Swords Dance
-Flare Blitz
-Brave Bird
-Roost
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 48 HP/252 Atk/208 Spe
Item: Sky Plate
Ability: Gale Wings

And I'm having a hard time deciding between the below to make up the last half of the team:

Gyarados:

-Dragon Dance
-Waterfall
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
Item: Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate

Azumarill:

-Waterfall
-Aqua Jet
-Play Rough
-Superpower
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 164 HP/252 Atk/92 Spe
Item: Splash Plate/Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power

Gengar:

-Shadow Ball
-Sludge Bomb
-Focus Blast
-Destiny Bond
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
Item: Life Orb/Gengarite/Focus Sash

Goodra:

-Dragon Pulse
-Fire Blast
-Thunderbolt
-Earthquake
Nature: Quiet
EVs: 252 HP/252 SAtk/4 SDef
Item: Assault Vest
Ability: Gooey

Greninja:

-Hydro Pump/Surf
-Dark Pulse
-Ice Beam
-Extrasensory
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
Item: Life Orb/Expert Belt
Ability: Protean

Venusaur:

-Giga Drain
-Sludge Bomb
-Earthquake
-Synthesis
Nature: Relaxed
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
Item: Venusaurite
Ability: Overgrow

Wash Rotom:

-Volt Switch
-Hydro Pump
-Thunderbolt
-Will-o-Wisp
Nature: Modest
EVs: 220 HP/60 SAtk/228 Spe
Item: Leftovers

Before anyone asks, the reason why I'm having another Mega alongside Kangaskhan is if I'm up against a team that Kangaskhan may not do well against, I can use the other Mega instead. Gyarados is a special case because it's viable even without its Mega form; as both the regular and Mega forms have different types, Gyarados' Mega Evolution can be held off until the right moment.

Feel free to suggest other Pokemon in addition to the ones mentioned.

Of all water-types that you're considering for you team, I think you should probably go with Gyarados. Personally, I find it easier to use than others. Not sure if same could be said about you, though, as you might play and think differently than me. xD;; Since this would lead you to having two flying-types on your team, you'd be sort of vulnerable to rock-type hits. But if you use Gyara mostly for its mega form, then this shouldn't really be much of an issue. Good luck on the tourney, Plat!

Gyarados is tempting...though I'm inclined to suggest Gastrodon to you, since it's immune to Water and Electric and resists Steel, Poison, and Rock, and Talonflame covers its lone Grass weakness fairly well. Use Gyarados or Azumarill.

Then put Goodra on the team to give you some special bulk and cover the grass and electric weaknesses of Talon and your water type. But what else....

The only problem between that is that I'm having a hard time deciding which one between Gyarados and Azumarill to use.

Ya know what, go with Gyarados since it can roll with or without mega evolving. You already have a good Fairy type in Xerneas, so I guess adding Azumarill would be slightly redundant. The unpredictability of Gyarados and its type change might be useful.

Just make sure you also put a good Rock resist on the team since Talonflame and regular Gyarados don't like rocks.

Alright, I'll go with that.

Now to decide for my Ground resist:

Diggersby:

Nature: Adamant
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe

-Stealth Rock
-Leech Seed
-Gyro Ball
-Power Whip
Nature: Relaxed
EVs: 252 HP/48 Def/208 SDef
Item: Leftovers/Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs

Nidoking:

-Earth Power
-Sludge Bomb
-Ice Beam
-Thunderbolt
Nature: Timid

I'd say roll with Ferrothorn, since its not weak to water and covers Xerneas's weaknesses. Talonflame and Gyarados cover its fire weakness, more or less. You also have plenty of offense already, so you might as well add in something a little more defensive. SR and Leech Seed are always nice to have too.

The friendly is 3v3, by the way. You may find T-wave or Protect more useful than SR on Ferrothorn.

While I do understand that hazards aren't as useful in 3v3 formats such as Battle Spot and the like, I find the extra chip damage a tad useful. So Ferrothorn it is.

Thanks for the help, everyone.
