I don't think there's really any benefit to using specific Poke Ball types, it's pretty much down to the person's personal preference. Everyone does have opinions, remember.

Only one thing comes to mind whenever I read that someone wants a specific Poke Ball in the GTS: part of the newer breeding mechanics make it so that a Pokémon hatched from an egg will have whatever Poke Ball the mother had. I think some people may be just a little annoyed that, after years of having them get a regular Poke Ball, it suddenly changed so that the mother's ball is what the baby has. If not that, it's probably just a personal preference for some people have one kind of Poke Ball over the others.

That's true. Im just curious if it will have any difference in a competitive point of view.
Thanks!

The Pokeballs are mostly cosmetics. The only one that gives you any kind of benefit is the Luxury Ball: It makes raising the happiness to the maximum value much easier which is very convenient on Return users and those to rely on happiness for evolving.

Arguably, Luxury Balls have very limited effects, though. If you're trying to get the Pokemon to evolve right away, it's better to just use the EV reducing berries on the Pokemon right off the bat (if you have a lot of them on hand anyways). That way you can max out their friendship value right away (unless you're trying to get specific moves that only some hatched Pokemon can learn like Cleffa with Magical Leaf or Pichu with Sweet Kiss, which I personally don't care about since they've got limited use for my strategies).

I guess it's the colour/design of the ball that decides all

I used to care in earlier games, when each ball had a unique visual effect that you could see when sending the Pokemon out. Like how Pokemon in Great Balls were sent out in a blue flash of light.

But now that they've removed that in XY, I honestly don't care at all.

Whenever I'm the mood for some trading, I always request my Pokémon to be in regular Poké Ball. Other types of ball do look nice, but I personally prefer this one over all the rest. xD;

Other pokeballs help in no way except to have a different opening animation. I really don't see a point to it but some people do. I personally don't care what pokeball my pokemon are in.
