Yeah, that's basically what I said. Part of it is younger userbases that haven't figured out yet how to navigate the personal/public divide of forumspace, or have more to fear from it, and the other part is the culture of PC; the other forum is very open about who people are and much less posture-y so meeting with a person in real life is almost identical to meeting with a person online.

Although the "young audience" of Pokemon doesn't really map to the userbase of PC because the target age group of Pokemon is ~10 and you can't even join PC at that point, haha.
I have an account over on Reddit and being subscribed to the subreddits for the cities I live(d) in is a whole different experience to being on PC. People have meetups almost every month in San Francisco and LA for reddit. It'd be crazy to see meetups on PC. :P Not even sure there would be enough people to justify having one in most places!

That actually is pretty surprising because I see Reddit usually as really privacy-centric! The other forum I'm talking about everyone tends to doxx themselves as a matter of course so once you've been on there for a few years, seen deeply personal stories of other people and have learned to trust everyone else and maybe have even received money if you're struggling, you feel comfortable meeting people in real life.

I guess it depends on the subreddits you subscribe to/view. I am subscribed to a lot of areas and I don't see as much privacy as I do on here! Like I said, city-specific subreddits tend to have meetups often and, especially in San Francisco, when someone posts a picture they took in the city, people usually identify the location fast and then try to meet up or create an event for the members to go hang at. Obviously other people choose to use "throwaway" accounts to hide personal information, but in those smaller areas, you tend to see more revealing information than you would elsewhere.

(As well, I've Skyped/webcammed with tons of PC members and even met one [Marz] a few years back. I'd love to meet more people from here, especially my close friends that I've made from this forum, but that tends to happen slowly as you develop the trust and friendship) :)

I might be the only person being active on PC in my whole town. And if I'm not, I probably don't want to know haha. Would be creepy meeting a stranger saying "hey, you're that mod from PC aren't you?" In Swedish!

Sometimes PC confuses me. On another forum I visit as soon as someone moves near another person the first thing anyone does is set up a meetup to get them used to the area. I know if I post on there "I want to meet some people in this forum from Chicago!" I'd have a dozen responses. Here it's like everyone hides their identity so closely that I didn't even know if anyone lived in this area until now, and even then those people wouldn't want to meet up. I guess part of it is an age group (the other forum is mostly late 20s-mid 30s) and part of it is just culture.
It breaks my heart to see how reclusive some people are </3

In my case I've met up with a few friends I've initially met online... and some of them are on here now! The quiet Oddisee is someone that hosted me in Belgium for a week, Jeshkat and I live about 25-30 miles apart, (there's water in the way so we have to go round that of course) and Grand Wizard Ryan is about 80-100 miles off. I'm gonna be seeing a play of his that he's written and staying at his next month. <3

ONE DAY MY DEAREST LEGENDARY OTP MATT (maccrash) AND I WILL MEET AND IT WILL BE GLORIOUS.
Sarcasm, its what social able people have, you know wen you go out and meet chicks just not on forums 1,000,000 miles away from you and you ask them what color underwear they have. - Aristotle, 355 B.C

I love Reddit, but I pretty much exclusively hang out on the askreddit/askmen/askwomen subreddits. But I'm subscribed to a few other ones.
What are you asking men and women?

I'm subscribed to everything from /r/askreddit to /r/gaming to /r/gameofthrones. I think I'm subscribed to 100+. I like having an area to visit for virtually any subject or topic. It's basically been my "forum" while I was away from PC.

What are you asking men and women?
Advice! They are subreddits for getting insight into subjects only that gender will have knowledge of. "Why do men scream about football?" or "Why do women always smell like dancing petals of sunshine?" If you get the drift. :P

I posted a blog like five days ago announcing I was leaving and alluding to finding a new place to spend my time, and Reddit was what I meant. Then things happened and "Why did I leave?" feelings sank in and I came back. Whoops!
Reddit is great, but impersonal. I never feel like I can connect with anyone on it. I feel like PC is an easier medium to create and appreciate people on, while Reddit favors less insight. I still love Reddit and visit it every day, but I like that PC gives me the ability and opportunity to make friends.

And what if I want to ask why women don't smell like football and why more men don't take the time to roll around in dancing petals of sunshine? :(

I like that about Reddit. I like how I can remain anonymous but at the same time a little un-anonymous. You can't get something like that here, because you have so many things contributing to your identity. Whereas when I'm on Reddit, I just pretty much ignore the post by area and just read the post.

Let me direct you to /r/football and /r/gardening for those answers. ;)

Exactly. But that's also the funny thing about Reddit. If you ignore the user, sometimes you get tricked into reading posts by users like, "AllMyPostsEndAbruptly" or "ThisUserLies" and it's always fun once you realize that you've been reading a post by a troll account. Haha.

I like the semi-anonymity. I can post something really terrible and get downvoted, but nobody will remember me in an hour. Post something to PC that is terrible and you aren't forgotten as easily!

Like the /r/askreddit subreddit is like a huge General Chat thing. That's why I like that. The /r/askmen is mostly about things relating to romance, sex, and general man things and advice from men on their perspective on things. And same with /r/askwomen, but from the women side of things.

Reddit just has some plain good areas. Especially for becoming educated on new subjects or asking (experts) about things. I love /r/guitar, /r/askhistory, /r/askscience, and the various other subs for becoming a little bit less dumb. ;P

/r/guitar is one of my favorites, simply because there's always good advice on how to improve your skills with free YT videos or PDFs.

Unlikely that I would ever go into anything labeled "men" because it's probably full of archetypical cishet stuff. :p Sounds a little ignorant of me since I've never actually used reddit but I'm also not completely serious, I swear.

Sometimes they yield good articles, info, and discussion, but you do see a fair amount of junk. It's basically a website with few filters, so everything and anything can become a popular post.

The main post is called the "post/original post", while the comments and any subsequent replies are called "comment threads". Kind of different than what we have here on PC. :P

And yeah, I've tried posting dozens of things that received...pretty mediocre responses, haha. It's hard to get a popular post, but some people are good at hitting the "front page". Nick is interesting enough to have done it, I'm sure. ;)

How much do you want to bed 90% of the "women" are not women!!!

I imagine it's kind of hit or miss on what gets popular and there's not really a trend?
