lately i've been liking every post i read. i like letting people know that they read their post so they didn't spend the time they did to type it to wonder if anyone read it. unless i think your post really doesn't offer anything or answer any questions the op posted, i'll like your post after i read it. i kind of picked up this habit from a friend who does that on facebook.

what gets you to like a post?

In my art thread I have liked near every post (except my own) in it for a couple reasons. If people post a thank you, I'll like the post to say 'you're welcome' instead of taking up space in the thread by quoting a reply. I will also like someone's request post if it complies with my rules and everything looks good, to let them know I saw it and that I'll work on it soon.

As for outside of my art thread, it's very rare for me to like a post. I have to really enjoy the content within, whether it be what they're saying, showing, or anything similar. Usually, I only like posts in A&D and the Discussions forum, because there's a lot of art to like in A&D and a lot of things to agree with in Discussions. But aside from that, I just have to 'like' what you've posted in order to hit that button. XD

It is extremely rare if I like a post. Witty comments like these get all the likes but if there's something I like myself, I'm going for it.

If someone makes me laugh or if I get what someone is trying to say. Or if I think you're cute.

I've picked this up as well- it's just so much easier to say thank you through a like rather than have a whole post full of repetitive "i'm glad you like it ;w;" and that. Outside of my shop I'll usually like posts that were interesting but I have no real response to or couldn't do justice in a response, posts that are supporting or agreeing with me, or posts that I agree with. Stuff that makes me pause for a nice reason and that. I'm pretty liberal with my likes because I don't use them as a way to mark things I want to come back to (as I do on tumblr). I like to show people I've read and appreciate their input~

I'll often like posts as a form of recognition as well, but most of the time I like posts that I find to be hilarious.

I usually like a post if it's something I agree with, it's been a common sight for me to do in a lot of Pokemon Gaming-based topics. I tend to like posts quite often in those boards because I agree heavily with one's post at times.

I don't like posts as much as I probably should, unfortunately. xD" Button's right there, I know, but... don't really hit it unless I find the post post to be extremely clever, contributing, or contains something that I'd say and makes my head shake up and down in agreement. From time to time, I would also use it as a way to thank someone.

Oh, I also want to add that it's rare for me to both quote a post and like a post. 'Cause liking is generally some form of acknowledgement but quoting and talking to the person expresses a lot more than just a "hey good post" so like. I don't feel the need to say "hey good post" when I'm also writing a paragraph or two in a conversational manner.

Going with the majority of the responses that have already been posted. I rarely like posts simply for the purpose of the function; I focus on the content, and whether or not the post appears funny/witty or something I agree with strongly (particularly in the D&D section). Often times in the picture thread though, I like posts from people who compliment me when I probably don't deserve it. So liking in that situation acts as a 'thank you' :D

I observe habits from the community and imitate them. On another forum where liking posts is more common, I like them quite a bit and have a high ratio. Here, I've observed it is rarer, so I don't do it as much. (And also because pressing the button here is much less satisfying than it is there due to the way it looks on this layout) I'll typically just like a post if it's related to me (and people saying nice things to me), or if it's something somebody I think is awesome said and I think what they said is awesome too. It's more likely I'll like your post if I already like you from the onset, because I'm just biased that way. :P

I'll like funny/witty things most of the time, but as it is difficult for typical internet goers to get to me in that way, it is rare. So I'll just like it if I think you said something awesome or agree with you/have something similar to say. Though honestly, I'd just prefer to quote it, say I agree, and then write my own response about the topic.

On PC... if I actually laugh, or if I agree and think something is well written.

On twitter lately I'm trying to reply to everything less, so I'm moving toward favouriting tweets whenever I just agree with something
