they have been or are staff on this site?
I didn't think getting kicked from moderation was a thing. I just thought all the mods met in some underground bunker discussing ways to brainwash the users of PC into forming an army to take over Russia and then wiping out the rest of the world with nuclear weapons so that PC is the master race, and that when someone is no longer worthy of their moderator status, they have them beheaded a lá guillotine as to not interfere with/leak the details of their glorious plan.

I do this all the time, and I usually end up being correct. A lot of people I've seen with 7,000+ posts have been ex-staff at some point, along with the time they've been around for. I check their profile and see the little ex-staff emblem.

We have over 440,000 registered members. Russia here we come!

I don't really look at people's profiles all that often, and a lot of times I don't even notice the different coloring in the name. I just assume they are mods.

Given I view profiles a lot, I've definitely dug up a lot of those old staffies. In fact I can't even keep track of the ex-staff list anymore because it's so big now. Although I may not see a very huge postcount all the time.

It's really hard to be staff on PC obviously.

Does this mean I have to post 3,000 more times before I can quit?

A lot of us did work up quite a post count due to being on staff, but that's also something that depends on the person. Some people, staff or not, are just always around, and even without being on staff still manage to post a ton. .w. So I don't think that post count necessarily coincides with being on / having been on staff.

I don't think that I really mistake people for staff members anywhere, because most forums have staff rank usergroups so the difference is clear enough.

As far as PC goes, I used to know who had or hadn't been on staff, but nowadays (and especially with name changes) sometimes I don't know unless I check their profiles and see their emblems. xD; I don't always think of PC as having a lot of ex-staff members, but if there was a list of them, I bet it would be longer than a lot of us realize. I mean, the list changes a lot every year, and PC has been around since 2002, so.. > > There's no way I can name / recognize all of the old staff members without peeking at profile info, haha.

I've been here for nearly ten years, and I've never been part of staff. The reason? I was banned at least twice (I think). I got another chance to smarten up though, and so far I've been doing an okay job at being a part of PC now.

No one's ever really asked if I was a mod or S-Mod either. If they do, I'd just tell them that I've had a rough past here about ten years ago that makes it impossible for me to be a staffer. I think if you've been banned once or twice, it cuts down your chances of ever becoming one of the staff. That's what I figure anyway though. Do correct me if I am wrong.

It's not like I want to be a mod or s-mod. I simply don't have the time and proper routine to have to add one more hassle to my everyday routine. So, I really wouldn't want to be one, even if I had the chance to be.

I know a few people who used to be part of the staff but aren't anymore. Some of those people have left PC for good and never to return here again. The ones that do still mingle around are really hard to find.

I've never thought that for any site I've been on. This site has such a staff-centric culture that it's the only site where I've ever really bothered to look up who's on staff.

I tend to assume join dates that are 2009 or farther back + at least 1k post count + mature way of typing = past staff. The newer ones I was here so I know a lot of them so I can't really judge. I wouldn't say high post count alone, but, I mean...out of the top 60 posters ever 44 of them were ex-staff, maybe more - I just did it and didn't count anyone that didn't have something staff-related obvious but I suspect more were ex-staff that I didn't see. So it's a pretty safe bet if you see a high post count that they were staff at some point.

This is a really good point that I think should be looked at.

Well, I don't really think it's a bad thing that PC's staff-centric. A lot of thought goes behind the moderation process, so the people selected to lead the forum sections are, 9 times out of 10, mature and well rounded. Perhaps that puts them on a pedestal, but I've always viewed them as role models. Is that a bad thing? I don't think it is.

Well... Someone with a high post count and an early join date... I assume that they used to be part of the staff, especially when it's a username I recognize.

But with name changes around, expect me to go to a profile with a lot of posts to see who that user actually is.

I usually go by join dates and the maturity and quality of their posts. I've known staff members on other forums that don't post as frequently as stereotyped but they have the aura of being staff nonetheless. Post counts IMHO are too shallow to judge someone (I mean one could interpret it in both positive and negative ways.)

It does seem to me that there is a big base of members who have experience in moderating Pokecommunity, most likely because there are moderators for each of the couple dozen sections here, give or take a few, coupled with all the super moderators. As a result the staff members come and go more frequently, accumulating number of ex-moderators in the process. At least that's my guess.

When I was first new here there was an active user named Cello who I thought was a staff member because he was pretty popular , had a good amount of posts (Just checked his profile, he had almost 1500 post. I thought that was a lot at that time.) and cause he joined in 2009. Though months later, I finally learned that he was never on staff. I probably just thought he was since supporters back then had a blue name in a similar color to the mods' color and cause of his post count/join date. (Crystal supporters still have a blue similar to staff, but it's more distinctive.) I now try not to assume people have been on staff because of their post count/join date since just because you've been here for ages and have a lot of post it doesn't mean you've been staff at least once. There's staff members here who've only been members for a year or two or have under 1k posts when promoted. They just showed that they are mature and responsible enough enough to take on a job such as moderator or h-staff.

Totally agreed. I always wondered what went into the selection process, but I know that I used to be immature in my early days here and from what I know most staff here give off a mature, well-rounded image like what Dipu mentioned.

But now, given I have a postcount of over 13K and the fact I'm now among the "veterans" according to PC emblem standards, there have been occasions where people who were newer to the forums thought I gave off the impression of a staff member only for them to find out I was never staff anywhere here. There were even times back when supporters and mods had near-identical shades of blue on their names and some newbies did mistake me for a mod.

In the end, you can't assume someone has been staff before based on join date and postcount alone. You basically have to go digging through profiles and checking any emblems that they have.

I admit, I do this a lot. It's not just for this forum, but for pretty much every forum I go to. We definitely are staff oriented here, more so than any other forum I've ever been to, and I've done a little research on that, but I've just learned to accept it. There are some pros and cons with a community like that, but I think I'll stop there before I start rambling.

For me, in order to assume someone was a staff member at some point, they have to make mature posts, carry themselves well, have to be a member for at least two years, and have a post count of at least 1,000. At one point, I thought that people could only get modded if they had over 1,500 posts! But then I was modded at a relatively low post count, and that mindset faded.
