I have never competitively battled, and I have neither the time or effort to catch up to those that do. Therefore, my goal of late is to put together stupid teams and then try to win against people in random online matchups (single battles).

This is my current goal.
Team:
Staraptor
Greninja
Starpator
Mewtwo
Zygarde
Staraptor

The aim is to throw them off. Three staraptors in one team? Hope they focus on the other three pokemon and assume I'm going to play with a well rounded team then BAM, three Staraptors in a row and hilarity ensues.

What do you guys think? Would you do something like this to mess with other players? Also, if you can think of better decoy pokemon, let me know. ;)

No. Having 3 Staraptor on the team is looked down upon and breaks species clause, if anyone follows it. That, and Staraptor is incredibly frail. However, it pairs well with Talonflame because both wear down each other's checks/counters up to the point that one of them can decimate the remaining team.

Staraptor isn't used often because of its frailty and average Speed.

also i don't agree with talon flame and staraptor pairing well with one another, enlighten me
A few months ago, a play style called the "double bird" core was introduced. Talonflame's Attack isn't that high, so Staraptor uses its higher Attack in conjunction with Choice Band to tear large holes into opposing walls with STAB Brave Bird (or Double-Edge for those who resist Flying, except for Steels, which can be handled by Close Combat). Since Staraptor struggles with Aegislash, Talonflame can deal with it with its STAB Flare Blitz. Staraptor also lures in Wash Rotom, Tyranitar and Heatran, which it can deal with using Double-Edge (Wash Rotom) or Close Combat (Tyranitar and Heatran) on the switch, giving Talonflame more room to come in and clean up late-game.

Doesn't team preview blatantly ruin the "surprise factor" of having three of the same Pokemon?
But if you did see it in a random online battle, would you really expect someone to play 3 of the same pokemon? It's ludicrous! Hence the lols.

I'll give you all an update once I finally do it and report on its success.

Why not go all the way then? Use a team of 6 Talonflames! There's only so many broken birds a Rotom-Wash can take.

It will be, I daresay, very successful. Unless, of course, you happen to come across another player with the same tactic in mind. Since most ethical players prepare only at least one counter to many specific threats, not many teams can withstand a barrage of 3 broken Pokemon in a row. Kind of defeats the purpose of playing competitively but, eh, to each their own I suppose.

The whole point isn't competitive. I thought I made that clear. Do you guys really think that I think this is a competitively good idea? Man, that's a bit insulting... and that makes me sad. :-(

The idea is just for fun as no one will expect anyone to do such a silly thing.

The test is, will they prepare for 3 Staraptors or will the decoy pokemon throw them off? And the ultimate question, how often can you win using 3 of the same pokemon in a row?

Unbeknownst to many, this forum is used to be called Competitive Battling Center (and Strategies and Movesets before that). It was very much focused into competitive battling, so understand that some older users will assume that everything posted in here is still competitively focused.
