I once asked this a million years ago and now I'm curious again. Which Pokemon family is your favorite trade evolution from the first generation? Why? Have you been able to use all the families before? Also as a side question, what did you think of Boldore, Roggenrola, Gigalith and Timburr, Gurdurr, Conkeldurr? Basically similar to the Geodude and Machop line.

The families being:

- Abra, Kadabra, Alakazam
- Machop, Machoke, Machamp
- Geodude, Graveler, Golem
- Gastly, Haunter, Gengar

I've used all of them, and I'd say Alakazam is my favorite out of these families! There may be just a little bias there, because I like the psychic-type, but even without it I'd still like Alakazam the best. He's not only fast, but he has a decent movepool and an amazing special attack. Even without a mega evolution, he's still able to hold himself and win a battle. Gengar comes second, he makes a great annoyer, but I like him better as a special attacker.

To answer the side question: I have never used those lines before, but I like the design of the Boldore family.

I think overall the Abra line is my favourite as I like the satisfaction of catching Abra (given its tendency to Teleport lol) and I've used Kadabra several times on my team :)

As individual Pokémon I love Haunter and really like Machoke but in terms of the Geodude line they're my favourite in terms of trading to evolve, as I much prefer Golem to Graveler whereas with the other lines I prefer the middle evolution each time :)

Of the four, Gengar is definitely my fave. It's got good typing, a good movepool, and is pretty damn powerful and speedy. I think I may have gotten to use Gengar and Golem, but not the others. (I have gotten data on Alakazam/Machamp, though.) I was never a huge fan of trade evos. because I often never had anyone to trade with or lacked an extra system & game to trade with myself. In regards to the Roggenrola and Timburr lines, I thought Gigalith was pretty cool and have found Conkeldurr useful in competitive battle, but they're not my faves. (Plus, fighting Roggenrola and Boldore is annoying as heck because of Sturdy x_x)

It's definitely got to be Gengar. This Pokémon is a ghost, which is one of my most favorite types. Plus, Gastly, one of its pre-evolution, plays a major role in RBY and FRLG, which makes it even bigger in terms of importance. Competitively, Gengar is very easy to utilize; once you've gotten the hang of it, you should be having no trouble taking out any opponent at all. As for second, I'd have to go with Alakazam line; it's pretty to defeat since it doesn't have much defenses, but it's extremely strong offensively, though, which makes up for it quite a bit.

While I've used all of them, Gengar and family are easily my favorite of the 4, and are still probably my second favorite Ghost type Pokemon (behind Froslass). The Alakazam line would be my second choice, though I always found myself using just Kadabra- even after the addition of the GTS. The other two I don't really care about, and only used them just to say that I did.

As for the two Unovan families that evolve through trade, I can't say that I care for them that much either, as they're basically the counterparts of Machamp and Golem.

I used to use Machoke a lot because I thought it would eventually evolve into Machamp xD so disappointed.

Haunter and Kadabra were pretty cool to use in-game without their final evos though, even though it would have been amazing to have Gengar and Alakazam. I never had anyone to trade with in my Yellow version so I never got to use those.

I used Graveler early on in the Johto games and sometimes in Kanto games because its moves were useful. But later on I always ditched it because it was so weak any time water or grass came its way. Not to mention fighting, ground, ice... Yeah. Golem looks cool. I used to not know that it was the final evo of Geodude xD Thought it was a standalone pokémon.

I can understand why you'd think Golem is a standalone Pokemon. While Geodude and Graveler are living rocks with limbs, Golem looks more like a turtle.
