For me, it had to be the anime that got me into the Pokemon series. Back then, the only system I had was my older brother's SNES. I didn't get my first console until the Gamcube and then the GBA afterwards.

So as a kid, I used to watch a ton of television and one day on Cartoon Network, I began watching the 1st episode of Pokemon and fell in love. I was aware that there were games for the series because of commercials but I never liked the Game Boy.

So basically, I first liked Pokemon thanks to the anime back when it first aired in the U.S. and then I liked the trading cards and then finally my cousin showed me Ruby for the GBA and I ended up with my own GBA and a copy of Sapphire.

So what about you guys? What got you into Pokemon to begin with? the games, the anime, the TCG?

I'm about 99% sure that my first contact with the Pokemon series was through the anime, way back when it first started airing. The only thing that ever made me doubt this is the fact that I remember The Battle of St. Anne being the first episode that I ever watched, which was the first one ever shown in North America as a sneak peek. Either I heard about the episode being aired through something else and tuned in to watch it, or I was fortunate enough to catch the wave really early.

Not long after that I jumped into the TCG (along with everyone else at my school), though I didn't get into the games until a few years down the road.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who began with the anime.
All of my friends tell me they started with Red & Blue or Gold & Silver, and I was the black sheep who started with the Anime when I was like 4-5 years old and then Sapphire when I was 7-8 years old.

My first Pokemon experience was when I was around five years old and at my childhood friend Bradley's house. His parents recently bought him a new coloring book for his birthday, and it was one of the first Pokemon products with Pikachu, Caterpie, Meowth, and others from Kanto. I fell in love with it, forced my own parents to buy me the same one, and that's where it all began. :]

Oh man, how could I forget the merchandise! I used to own a pair of sneakers that had the Kanto starters and Pikachu on it. Also a bookbag and binder. xD
Man, I loved being a Pokemon kid!

I think I was flicking through channels as a little kid and stumbled upon the Pokemon anime. Not sure if it was before or after school though, haha. I found it good and continued to watch the anime, all through to the end of the Advance Generation arcs. After that, I think I found a random Pokemon TCG card while at school, over on the wooden seats. I think it was a Pikachu! I put it in my pocket, still having the "finders keepers" mentality, and took it with me. I lost it soon after. ;-;

Lmao nice. I remember watching the anime at night, maybe around 8 or 9 PM in New York time.
And what was your first Pokemon video game?

I actually started playing the games a long time after my first moment of exposure to the Pokemon franchise...maybe around 5-6 years after? When I was in 6th grade, probably. I watched the anime when I was around 4-5? I don't remember too well. D:
Anyway, my first game that I actually owned was actually Pokemon Diamond, with the first game I ever played being my friend's copy of Pokemon Ruby. I'm not sure which counts as my first, actually...

Yeah I see what you mean. The first Pokemon game I saw footage of was either Red & Blue or Stadium, but the first game I had my hands on was my cousin's Ruby game. But I didn't own my own copy until Sapphire shortly after lol.

Pretty certain I started watching the Pokemon anime (before I knew it was anime) first. It was 1999 and I was five going on six. I recall seeing at least the episode where Ash caught Bulbasaur before I got Pokemon Yellow (my first Pokemon game) for Christmas.

The first Pokemon thing I ever saw was the Anime. I didn't really like it, but I loved Pokemon Colloseum.

An old friend of mine back in England was into Pokemon; specifically the TCG. He would always show off his card collection to me, but I didn't really care. Either way, while I didn't like Pokemon back then, it was my first contact with it.

My first interest with Pokemon was a few years later, when I just started learning how to use Emulators and decided to test Visual Boy Advance out with a few random ROMs I picked up off the net. One of these was Pokemon Yellow. Even though I sucked so bad at it, I found myself loving it the more and more I played, and I guess that's where it started.

Fun fact: I stopped playing Pokemon Yellow after getting to Lavender Town. It freaked me the hell out so I just got rid of the ROM, and I vaguely remember a brief period in which I suffered from some sort of anxiety for a month or two afterwards. Really freaky memory. Switched to Pokemon Sapphire after that, and just ended up loving that one even more. By that point I had gotten a little better at Pokemon so I was at least able to beat the game.

I think my first experience was either the anime or Pokémon Stadium... actually no it must have been the anime cause then my interest for Stadium would have stemmed from that :) And then from there in conjunction with Pokémon Stadium I started to take an interest in the TCG and it all kinda blossomed from there haha :)

If I remember correctly, it was anime that had first gotten me into Pokémon. I might not watch it as often as I used to nowadays, but still appreciate it for introducing me to such a series; it's simply amazing. What's kept me hooked to Pokémon, though, would be games; if it weren't for those, I wouldn't have been such a follower right now.

I'm not exactly sure, my grandmother died in 1999 so I don't have much memory of 1998 or 1999. I know I bought Pokemon Yellow and the Pikachu Gameboy when it came out, and I watched the series since it came out, I also saw the first movie when it first came out. I have memories of trading pokemon cards at recess in elementary school in 1997-1998, but overall I don't remember how I first heard about it, one of my memories is trading my Pokemon Breeder for a Squirtle card so I think my first experience with it was the cards.

I discovered it through the anime. I remember being 9-years-old at the time and I was flicking through channels when the show popped up on my screen. I forgot the name of the episode, but I remember there was a Bagon and Salamence in it.

I liked the show afterward, but I think it was the TCG that really got me hooked. I still have some of my old cards from the Power Keepers set, including a Salamence EX.

I discovered it through the anime. It was my favorite show for years and eventually I would get my first video game ever, Pokemon Yellow! I don't know how old I was, 6 or 7? But by then I'd been watching and rewatching the anime for years.

My first experience into Pokemon was the movie 2000, y brother was a huge fan back then but got disinterested by the time Gen 2 came out so I replaced him as the only one in the family who watches the anime, I never played the games, but I was so interested by Hoenn that I want to get Ruby so much but my family was poor so I gave up on the series. It wasn't then last year when I finally got an emulator and booted Emerald and was immediately drawn back to the series.
