Here's my first true attempt at fanfiction, the first time that I've decided to write down one of those little stories that form in my head whenever I see a series that I enjoy.

This is a Shaman King based fanfic; a sidestory, to be more exact. It is a prequel to a now-dead Roleplay that was called Shamanic Fates, but a prequel in the life of my characters only.

On that note, all characters are original. I may have the occasional character from Shaman King appear later on, but not Yoh or any of his friends. The fic is rated PG-13 for violence, and the chance of strong language and possible drug/alchol/tobacco referances.

Finally, the events in this fic follow the manga storyline of Shaman King. While this has little effect in the beginning, those who have only seen the anime will notice significant differances right around the time that the second preliminaries begin.

That said, let's get started! Shamanic Chronicles, START!

~*~*~*~Prologue to Fight~*~*~*~

Kiui tapped an impatient finger against his arm, and pushed the pink lenses of his glasses up the bridge of his nose.

"So it's safe to assume that he'll be home soon?"

Remon took a short drag of a cigarette, and leaned back in the cheap swivel chair that currently held his person. "Probably," he responded to his companion. "But if he doesn't, it doesn't change much. We got in alright, didn't we? We can always try again tomorrow."

The two men were currently inside a small, one-room appartment that technically didn't belong to them; thus, they were technically breaking and entering. Kiui and Remon had never been ones to pay attention to technicalities, however, and as such were perfectly content with making themselves comfortable until the owner returned.

"Just a bit drab here." Remon tossed his cigarette against the wall, making a stain of dark grey against the plain, off-white. "How the hell does someone live here? There's a sink, a cupboard, a bed, a couch, and a table. No phone, no oven, no TV..."

Kiui shrugged. "Bet the kid can't afford it. You don't buy such a tiny place if you have any steady income, that's for sure. We're almost doing him a favour, hmm?"

Remon chuckled. One way to put it, he thought. Lime'll have our heads if he knew about this, though. Looking at his watch, he muttered the time to himself.

Kiui made a face in Remon's direction. "Didn't catch that."

"8:52," Remon repeated, louder. "I suppose we should be off soon."

Ten minutes later, the two were outside, walking away from the appartment building in no particular hurry.

"There's gotta be an easier way, huh?" Kiui commented casually. The question was more or less rhetorical, but Remon chose to answer anyways.

"Oh, probably." Remon took a lighter out of his pocket, and started fiddling with it absentmindedly. "Preparing Lime has been tiring, though, and he asked us anyways. Better to find 'em now than later, in any case."

Kiui just gave another shrug, and followed his companion, not looking back. They would try again tomorrow; there was still plenty of time.

~*~*~*~END OF PROLOGUE~*~*~*~

Yes, it's a crap. I realise this; but then again, it IS just the prologue. I promise the story will pick up. And yeah, there is supposed to be a paragraph break up there, right after Remon repeats the time. Too bad the Tab indenting doesn't work. Oh yeah, chapters will probably be longer. Probably. Depends on what's gonna happen. Anyways, leave opinions if you want.

Weeeeeeeeeee!!! This prologue was wonderful! <3<3 Even though you have a few minor spelling mistakes (corrected above), you have shown great useage of dialogue and a good sense of paragraph knowledge. ^^

I have to say I am already taking a liking to Remon. ^^ He seems like the tough type and more in control with the situation than Kiui is. ^___^ I think this is a fine length for a prologue and it certainly isn't crap! =P

I can't wait for chapter one, great job so far! =D
