It is no surprise that tattoos are increasingly becoming a popular trend of our generation. Based off of American statistics, 1 out of every 5 people has a tattoo, and it seems like the body art trend isn't going to be stopping anytime soon. However, unfortunately, there is also a big negative stigma surrounding tattoos, especially when it comes to the workplace environment. People firmly believe that tattoos hurt job-bound people when it comes to interviews and that they are all-and-all unacceptable in the workplace. So my question to you is what is your opinion on tattoos when it comes to the workplace? Do you think that eventually they will become acceptable to have there, and if yes, why and when do you think they will become acceptable? If no, why do you think tattoos shouldn't be allowed? Also, if you have a tattoo, do you find yourself discriminated when you go for a job interview or are working in a job? What kind of tattoos do you have and why did you pick to have those specific ones?

I want a tattoo, but because of the negative stigma which surrounds them I don't plan on getting one until after I secure a solid career and get the O.K. from my employer. I've seen the effects of tattoos first hand even working at McDonalds; people with obscene tattoos on their arms or face were not allowed to work up front. I don't have a problem with them, but employers don't like them (or plugs) because they view them as unprofessional! Lawyers, upscale businessmen and doctors don't have tattoos which are visible (for the most part); they are simply not accepted in the work place. I think they are getting more acceptable, but will never be visibly allowed in most jobs

I hate the idea of dress codes so I similarly hate that we're judges on our tattoos or lack thereof and not the job we do. I'm aware of the socialization bias, so I go out of my way to correct it.

If you were your own boss and you had to hire someone who had visible tattoos, would you do it?

trying to be subtle but i would gladly lick that makeup off that man

as more people get tattoos I imagine it will slowly become more acceptable. for the most part I find people from older generations have a real problem with it. I personally don't care what anyone looks like as long as they do their job well.
