Playing games on cellphones has been around a pretty long time:

Remember good ol' Snake?

But with the emergence of smartphones, mobile gaming has come a long way since then - there are a lot of much more advanced (and more fun!) games on the app stores these days, from puzzles and driving games to full fledged RPGs. What kind of games do you enjoy playing on your mobile phone the most? Which game is your favorite at the moment?

Personally, I only like to play simple puzzle games on my phone - I don't want to drain my battery, and I only play games on my phone for short periods of time, like when I'm on a bus or waiting for someone. My favorite right now is called "Bag It!", a cute puzzle game where you strategically place produce into grocery bags without crushing anything (it's more fun than it sounds :P).

What about you guys? Share anything about mobile gaming here, and if you have any fun games to recommend, please let us know!

Oh, I remember all those Snake times =D
I especially played on older phones without OS. Mahjong, Snake, etc... classics =D

Now I only play Love Live School Festival as it's localized anime game =D

I'm still very conflicted. On one hand its decaying the value of video games and destroying every credential of them as an art faster then the plague went through Europe's population in the middle ages. On the other hand there are a lot of good games out there that do not utilise IAPs, and while still very simple, do offer quite a lot of entertainment and generally do well as games. Currently the only games to have done this for me is very small, which is why I am so conflicted. Too much dirt to sift through for the diamonds ultimately leads to a downfall imo. Anyway, those games:
Paper Monsters(short but sweet platformer, even making its way to the Wii U)
Cordy/Cordy 2(Okay these are as kid friendly as possible, and do have IAP's, but the platforming is fun, if a bit floaty, and you can have a good time)
Rico A tale of Two Brothers(Another platformer, but it has good pixel art and there's quite a challenge in the late levels
Superbrothers Sword and Sorcery(you need to play this just to have your mindblown)
Anodyne(on steam as well, but it works on on a phone perfectly well. Zelda influenced, and pretty challenging)
Traps and Gemstones(Apparently an App Store oldie, but its great on Android as well. Its the closest if not only Metroid-like you'll get for your phone)

I would mention the Kairosoft games, but outside of Game Dev Story, everything else is too samey and feels like a cash grab.

I really don't like phone games (and I will include tablet games as well) that much, of course some are good (I really love temple run for example) but most are poorly made and ...well boring.

The most annoying thing is that most of the people who play these app based games are the people who call real video games/gamers saddos, yet will spend endless hours playing candy crush saga or whatever.

A lot of the ones with in-app purchases are being successful like Clash of Clans, which is bad because other companies see it and decide to follow suite, which means more and more bad games that people are often willing to spend hundreds on.

Non pay-to-win games, are fine I'd say, but there are some apps on the app store that really shouldn't cost money because they're just not worth it.

I really like one called Geometry Dash, it offers a Lite version and it's coming to Steam as well.

Just as there are b-rated movies, there are mobile games. But that doesn't mean the artistic form is ruined. Granted, I play some mobile games and quite enjoy them for when I'm on the go or away from a console. Some of my favorites include 2048, Puzzle & Dragons, Pocket Planes, Tiny Tower, and The Sandbox.

Fun, simple games for some basic entertainment. Puzzle & Dragons is the deepest one (I'd buy the 3DS version if it came to the US).

Speaking of puzzles and dragons, I absolutely loathe the need to always be online. Its counter productive for a mobile game, especially with the horrendous data charge rates. You literally need to be at home or at work to play it, where you usually don't have lots of interest for mobile gaming.

Ever since nabbing my iPhone 5S I've been pretty addicted to mobile games. I'd say 85% of my game time nowadays, if not more, is me messing around on my apps because it's just.. so easy to turn on the phone and play away.

Right now I play Happy Street, Puzzle and Dragons, Hero Deckmasters, Hay Day, Barn Voyage, My Talking Tom, and several others. Happy Street, Deckmasters, and the couple of otome dating games (lmao it's fun shh) are probably my favorites. Wait times are never fun though; that's another downside to these f2p mobile games.

There are a lot of PaD players here it seems, I have half a mind to open a thread about it. But onto the topic, the games I generally play on the phone are ones that I can start and stop pretty quickly. Right now, the only games I have on my phone are Cytus, Deemo, Puzzles and Dragons ofc, and Ayakashi (mainly for the art.) I play PaD the most, played since last year and it's one if the few games I haven't gotten bored of. I used to be swept up in the 2048 hype too, as people from the PC year of gaming know. But I stopped because I lost interest.

I haven't been playing too many Mobile games since FFXIV has taken my life....

But there are a few I have fun with. The Zenonia games are cool, and I mess with Baseball Superstars. Backflip Madness is dumb fun, Osmos HD is really nice, and Auralux is pretty fun to play. Zombie Exodus is a cool text novel; wish more VNs were on the Android platform besides the ones these random developers keep pumping out and aren't Higurashi. Oh and Brave Frontier is cool despite being grindy.

Otherwise, not much else. I usually keep a GBA Emulator on deck on my phone since mobile games can be hit and miss too much of the time.

Well I only have a flip phone so I mainly play poker, tetris, and bejewled. And I dont think Id spend much time playing games on myphone even if it were a better phone. I had a windws phone a while back and I played some rpg game that was free but I couldnt really get into it because it drained my battery and made it overheat something fierce.

I have an iPhone. Personally I don't like iPhone App Store games anymore (even though I've had my time on Angry Birds and Temple Run previously xD), but luckily I have the VBA on my phone. I mainly play gen 1-3 Pokemon games on it, but I also have a couple Yu-Gi-Oh! games, namely Eternal Duelist Souls and the GX Academy game.

You serious, bruh?

How did you get the Pokemon games to work on your iPhone? Just curious because I just got myself an iPhone and Id love to be able to do that. I know you need an emulator, but can you run me throw the steps on what emulator app you actually used/how did you get the files onto your phone?

Mobile games, whether it be for tablets or phones, had never seemed to have interested me, sadly. I've tried plenty, but just can't seem to get myself actually into it. I cannot put my finger on what, exactly, but unlike console and handheld games, something about them (well, at least most) just doesn't click for me. Wish it weren't like that!

Only mobile game that I personally do enjoy would have to be Angry Bird. It seems to exercise your mind quite a bit, which is definitely a good thing. Not only that, but regardless of how many times I go through a level, it never seems to get boring. Might not play this game as much as I used to, unfortunately, but still do every once in a while.

You know that Mobile games are designed to be addictive right?
Spoiler:

Anyway, I really don't care for mobile games. They really don't appeal to me, though I do like to play them when I have nothing better to do.

I won't say I absolutely hate it, I've just never played Candy Crush Saga and I don't understand why it's gotten so popular. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it basically Bejewelled with candies and chocolate and microtransactions?

I've got a good few games on my iPhone that I play regularly in rotation. I don't really play them for long periods of time, but they're good fun from time to time.

Yep. This is what confirms that old and successful concepts work even now.

Android forever is my only code here! :P

I do positively spend quite some time playing games on my smart phone. Some of my favorites have already had honorable mentions like Kairosoft. Aside from that I recommend Riptide GP 2 to racing fans and Dead Space to Horror/Shooter fans plus My Boy! and Drastic DS to Pokémon fans, Minecraft will be a best buy for all the Survival/I don't care about graphics, the game should be awesome type guys.

I would like to point this out that you need not pay for any of them and can easily say YUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSS to Pirates xD

That's the best thing about Mobile Games, pick up and play anytime, anywhere and no charges necessary.
