While there's only room for one of me on the planet right now, in a few years I'd like two children, maybe three if it's possible with what the wife wants, finances, the other two kids, job situation, etc. Ideally I'd like two boys, and maybe a girl down the road. Eldest boy will be named Alexander, after my favorite historical figure, Alexander the Great. (Bit of a military history geek, sorry!)

Wouldn't the birth giver get priority over naming? 8D

You know how they say CHILDBIRTH IS THE WORST PAIN OF ALL TIME. That and they're carrying the offspring for 9 months!

I would assume that every couple has their own system, so not necessarily.

I know a lot of people my age say this sort of thing and end up changing their minds as time goes on, but I really can't ever imagine having children. Firstly I have a really big problem with commitment and responsibility. I'll give you an example, and yes I'm well aware of how pathetic this sounds, but if anyone asks me for directions anywhere, even to my house, I will refuse to tell them for fear of it being my fault if they get lost. I absolutely hate being relied upon by other people, and in a way that is sort of the definition of parenthood, being relied upon by your child to guide them through the world.

I have the exact same problem dude!
My friend got lost because of my crappy directions and so I hate being given responsibility. x.x
It's horrible.

Why 4 specifically? Why not 3, or 5? Not criticizing, just curious.
That's a good question, and I'm not entirely certain myself. Maybe it's because I love even numbers? Or maybe it's more to do with I know a family with 4 kids (well, 5 now, as they have a very young child now [the other four are adults]), and it seems like a good number.

I think maybe 4 kids would be awesome balance, as then they can play games with two-on-two, or anything like that. I think it's less likely for someone to be left out, it'll quite possibly happen anyway, but that's just my idealistic way of thinking. :)

You realize you'll have to give birth 4 times?

I always wondered how girls can say they want a lot of kids. Like, isn't just having 1 child painful enough? xD

Maybe. The thing is, I've heard that although it's painful, it's a pain you want to go through, because you'll bring your child into the world.

But, of course, if I can't handle the pain (which I doubt, because I have a very high tolerance to pain), or if I, for some reason, can not give birth 4 times, then I'll definitely look further into adoption. (which I'd like to look into, anyway)

I know quite a few families with numerous amount of kids (the largest family I know currently have 13 kids), so 4 kids doesn't seem to many, to me. :P I, myself, have 7 siblings.

I can tell you right now that while the pain is unspeakable, even for someone with high pain tolerance, the fact that I soldiered through it for as long as I did, then endured the healing process after a c-section, it felt insanely empowering. I felt strong for getting through it. I should also mention, if they put you on any pain meds, you won't remember everything. I pretty much went unconscious after being given the epidural. I had to be put on oxygen because I got ridiculously weak from the drugs and because I was very exhausted. I hadn't slept for two days and felt pain constantly the whole time before they finally let me in the delivery room. A woman has to be so dilated or scheduled for an induction before they wheel you in, so I had to wait.

But my case was different. Some women don't experience the labor process at all, or for a very short time. Others have to deal with what I went through and take it as a sign that one is enough.

I accept that it is unspeakably painful. But I also think at the moment that the blessings of a child would be greater than the pain. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I mentioned high pain tolerance, I was half asleep haha.

But I guess I'll decide if/when I actually have a kid, I just wouldn't mind four if I could.

No, you are absolutely right. My labor complications aren't the only reason for having only one child. I have many. Otherwise, I would be on board with having another. The pain is unlike anything felt before, but it is definitely manageable. Everything feels that much better when it's over and you're holding your child. Absolute peace. I don't remember much of the hospital stay, but that particular moment is extremely vivid. I will always remember it.

Maybe when I'm like 30. I'm not ready to settle down just yet. My twin brother, his wife and my family have this idea that me and him were supposed to be married around the same time and having kids, so I never hear the end of the "Your going to die alone" and "Don't be like Anthony" speeches.

We'll see how things go, though! Very surprised at the number of people not wanting to be parents at all, tbh.
That's because they're smarter than you are. They know The Truth about life with children.

You can't have kids anyway. They'd split your focus from maccrash and he needs to remain your number one priority.

I'm still not sure if I want kids at this point in life, but when I'm finally settled down, financially stable and I'm ready for it, then I might have a maximum of 2. I'm pretty good with children I think, so here's hoping I'll be a good parent.

I'd like to get two. A boy and a girl, of course. I'm very confident and really want to raise kids. I've been wanting to experience things that I really wanted, and I wanna know what it's like to take care of one. And also being a parent.

I am honestly on both sides of the line. I swore I never wanted a child and honestly still don't due to the whole fact its very time consuming and money consuming. I won't be able to do what I want anymore, but my unlucky self has a child on the way. I still don't honestly want a child but maybe it will change when I am sitting in the hospital holding my baby girl. Who Knows...

Fascinating. And here I thought I was unusual in not wanting to have children. At least all the people around me are incapable of comprehending my decision. The whole "you'll change your mind some day" nonsense. No, no I won't. I'm not some teenager who hasn't really experienced the world yet and settled in my ways (no offense meant to teenagers, but give it a few years before you call your decision concrete); I'm plenty old enough now to be perfectly confident in my decision.

I've considered the possibility of adopting, since the world has too many humans already and not enough responsible parents, but I believe I'm happier just being the most awesome uncle.

I really don't want any kids. Birds are enough for me.

Looking at this thread, I'm really surprised by how critical some are of women having kids. Seriously, if they want kids, they want kids. Yes, I'm sure it's extremely painful, but some people like having kids. It's not my thing and it doesn't have to be yours but it's also the reason why you exist, so don't be such jerks about it.

IDK, it kind of came off that a few members were trying to discourage childbirth because it was painful. Or using that to question "why would aaaanyone want to have kids?" sort of way. It just comes off as... judgemental.

Nah, we're not trying to make them feel bad. We're just curious because childbirth is supposed to be one of the most painful things to go through. We want to know why some females believe the pain is worth the reward and we got our answer. :3
