DONETSK, Ukraine — Determined to preserve the pro-Russian revolt in eastern Ukraine, Russia reinforced what Western and Ukrainian officials described as a stealth invasion on Wednesday, sending armored troops across the border as it expanded the conflict to a new section of Ukrainian territory.
The latest incursion, which Ukraine’s military said included five armored personnel carriers, was at least the third movement of troops and weapons from Russia across the southeast part of the border this week, further blunting the momentum Ukrainian forces have made in weakening the insurgents in their redoubts of Donetsk and Luhansk farther north. Evidence of a possible turn was seen in the panicky retreat of Ukrainian soldiers on Tuesday from a force they said had come over the Russian border.
Russia, which has denied it is helping the insurgents, did not acknowledge the military movements. But the Russians have signaled that they would not countenance a defeat of an insurgency in the heavily Russian eastern part of Ukraine, which would amount to a significant domestic political setback for President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia in his increasingly fractious relationship with the United States and its European allies.

"Russian is likely invading Ukraine" Well, good luck to the man. I hope he does well on his own.

Joking aside, as far as I'm concerned Russia can do whatever it wants with the Ukraine. We have bigger things to worry about than someone with the age old 'resource grab'. The US screwed up big time in the Middle East (also, check that we gave the sand people weapons and training to fight the Russians, and in turn they turned those weapons on us), let Russia screw around a little bit on their own without having the world's bleeding hearts all over the place. Besides, didn't they [Ukraine Parliament] vote on merging with the Russian Government awhile back and it was like 3 to 1 in favor of merging? Russia needs a win guys, come on, they can't always be the bad guys.

No? They never did. They did have a majority vote to remove their pro-Russian President Yanukovych back in late 2013 and an anti-Russian guy, Poroshenko, won the elections this year. In fact, if Ukraine had voted to join Russia, well, they wouldn't be asking for international help to stop a Russian invastion, don't you think?

And I don't care about "giving them a win". You cannot invade a country like it were your backyard. This is civilization 101. This isn't a game of Risk. There are people dying. There are millions of people all over Ukraine who made it clear they didn't want anything to do with Russia.

The Ukraine is very culturally-different than Russia, and the people there didn't appreciate being Russia's grainary in the Soviet Union years, soooo. On top of electing a very EU-friendly government and fighting the "rebels" (Russian Spec Ops, no doubt) in the Crimea. They'd be about as fond of Russian overlordship as the USA would be.

I'm a little comprehensive about there being no potentially "good" end to this. If Russia successfully invades, there will doubtlessly be a rebellion and continued insurgencies for decades to come. If Ukraine (I totally missed the memo to call it THE Ukraine") successfully repels the "rebels" /Russians; Russia may become aggravated and escalate the conflict involving more countries, or launch a full scale war on Ukraine.

It's terrible in regards to the fact that it has no possible outcome that doesn't lead to worse or prolonged consequences.

I see. It is a lovely arrangement, isn't it? Pro-Russian rebels can potentially be considered as Russian citizens, therefor Russia can invade to 'protect' it's citizens. I believe that Russia has more standing in the Ukraine than the US ever did in Vietnam or the Middle East.

Keep in mind that Russia also assisted the US (UN et al) in stemming the Syrian chemical issues, enabling the US to avoid entering yet another costly war on behalf of a people that don't care too much for us. So if push comes to shove, I would actually help the Russians shove, and not the US. The US has shoved enough (like the Britain of yore) people around in the last 60+ years to be hated in just about every country on the planet we operate in. That's not a good thing.

Ain't our concern what's going on over there. If you have ****ters leading your country that can't find their asses with both hands and a flashlight like we do (USA), you're totally SoL. So why is everyone constantly on Russia's case, hm? Does anyone remember the Cold War? Be realistic; what will happen if the US decides to intervene? Soured relations, see? Let them blow off some steam to avoid MAD.

My advice? I would totally green light the Middle East for the Russians. They can have that little slice of heaven (see: sarcasm) for all I care. It would be like killing three birds with one stone. Let Russia have their fun, boost US/Russia relations (look, we're sorry about the 80's), and get rid of all the "terrorist threats" in the Middle East.

I know that Russia would make being in a terrorist (personally I hate the overused word) cell extremely hazardous to the health. I don't believe Russia would be to fond of having death tape videos of their soldiers put online, so they'll probably goose step all over the necks of their friends until they show their ugly little heads; and I do not have an issue with that at all if it gets rid of the 'problem'.

When I first started reading this I didn't think I would agree but maybe your'e right but I never really thought of them as the bad guys.

And then there was this.... And I decided so I wasn't the only one hoping he was being sarcastic XD

This would be closer to my feelings but there is a reason why there called war games do you think so of the Ukraine people as individuals could flee like many other people of the past had done when there country's were invaded I mean it is the 21st century I think the whole going anywhere with a armed force to do anything Is dated and if I was having a fight with my neighbor cause they climbed into my backyard and we were fighting about it and then some other force external to the problem came and butted in I would be annoyed that there were two forces that think my backyard is theirs rather then the one.

Analogy:
I guess what I am saying is how I water my grass is my business whether it looks like its dying our not fortunately I also feel you have the right to fight me over any problems you may have have about my grass dead body's are not everyone gets bullied on the playground
