Why is this game so hard!

What are your opinions on difficulty in video games? What is the most difficult game that you've played? And what's the most difficult game that you enjoyed playing?

I, personally, Love difficult games. But not when the game is cheap. I hate it when games resort to cheap difficulty because it feels like the game is cheating me into death. Now some games can be difficult but at the same time fun. I prime example of this is the Nes trilogy of Ninja Gaiden games. Especially the first one. It was hard, but at the same time it was fun because it didn't resort to cheap difficulty like regular enemies that deal crazy amounts of damage. It instead used cleaver enemy placement and stage design that commonly ended up killing you. But at the same time it felt incredibly rewarding when you won, and it didn't lose that entertainment value. On that note the first Ninja gaiden game is probably the most difficult game that I loved playing. But the most difficult game I ever played was Ninja Gaiden 3: The Ancient Ship of Doom. It resorted to cheap difficulty like Enemies that deal massive amounts of damage and other cheap tactics like that. And that's what makes it really hard, just not the fun hard.

I prefer a balance where I feel like the game is teaching me new strategies but is also fun to play at the same time. Basically not too easy but not so hard that I chuck the controller through the tv.

Most difficult game huh? Wow, ok. First games that come to mind regarding this are Dragon Age Origins and The Witcher 2 and man were they hell to play at first. Granted, I got a little used to the mechanics over time but my god, I could not slip up so much as once or twice if the enemies came in smaller droves than usual.

Well I mean, no level run on Dark Souls. Hitbox master. I don't play games that are cheap, they get broken.

If I want to play a difficult game, then I like that the options are out there. Sometimes you really do just want that almost-impossible level that you can never beat, but one day, it finally happens. There's a lot of good feelings that come with beating those levels, so it's nice to have the experience when available. ;D

When it comes to difficult games that fit my style of genre, then bring it on.

As an ex-hardcore gamer, if you can dominate in a difficult game, you just might acquire something out of it. Maybe big, too. Hell, if you were one of the first people to, say, beat I Wanna Be The Guy, you'll receive massive views on YouTube. If it isn't obvious enough, more people watch videos of crazy runs of any game compared to a casual run of any game. Why is this? Those types of gameplay can amuse and appeal to other viewers.

On my part, I'm mainly a bullet hell player. The most difficult game I played is Mushihimesama Futari...on ultra. Sadly, due to lack of save states (for the sole purpose of boss fight practices), I don't grind much. I do play the Touhou and DoDonPachi bullet hell games, and albeit I may not achieve as much as the past, at least it gives me something to do for an insane challenge.
Liu Kang ftw.

Clash of Clans = Town Hall 11, Level 151. Max balloons, max wizards, max P.E.K.K.A.'s, max golems, max witches, max valkyries, maxed base except for walls and heroes. Crimson Reborn fighting.

For me, when it comes to choosing difficulty in video games, it depends on a lot of things. Sometimes, I would take it easy, while at others, it would be somewhere in-between. From time to time, I'd also go with hard (or challenging, whichever you prefer).

When playing through main story line, I like getting through levels and mission as quickly as possible and progress, so that I don't eventually wind up losing interest and whatnot. If it takes too much time to complete something, I'm afraid that I'd forget past occurrences and turn myself sort of imbalanced in terms of plot, if that makes sense. I'll also go with this option if the game is completely new to me, so that I could learn its mechanics and make myself familiar.

As for medium and hard, I go with these two only when I'd completed a game and want to play again without having things feel too repetitive. In some games, selecting different difficulty could allow you to face off against different foes, which, one way or another, does help giving you a different feeling and experience.

If you want a fair, difficult game go and play Dark Souls. While at first glance it might seem excruciatingly cheap, it's actually an incredible game that tests your skills and puts them to the limits in an effort to create a game experience that the casual gamer would sob at. I like challenges; challenges are fun.

I would be very happy if more of the games I love were more difficult. The rise of games where you don't really die but rather get resurrected a la Vita-Chamber has made games feel like they're holding your hand a bit. While I think that this style works well in multiplayer games like Borderlands, sometimes I wish I could turn it off like I can in Bioshock. I think Borderlands 2 would be a more fun single player experience without the New U station.

Due to my disabilities, I have a hard time figuring out complicated games. D: I do try to challenge myself as much as I can though. I have played games I find complicated for me such as Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy though. While, these games maybe pretty easy for some, they are a huge challenge for me. That's one reason why I stick to pokemon most of the time. It doesn't pose as much of a challenge for me as much as most games do.

However, I don't think that games shouldn't be difficult for my sake though. This is just something I need to learn and figure out on my own or whatever.
