It's about time I make another team. This is only my second team and my first team was alright so this might not be the best.

-Rock Blast
-Swords Dance
  • 40 HP
  • 252 Atk

Electivire @ Life Orb

Motor Drive
Naive
-Wild Charge
-Cross Chop
-Ice Punch
-Hidden Power (Grass)

I never liked hidden power, this may or may not change.

Sceptile @ Life Orb

  • 252 SpA

Having 3 life orbs on this team seems a bit much. I'd like to change 1 or 2 or those.

Thanks!

I don't have much competitive experience, so you may want to disregard my post, but here's my take.

The team looks pretty solid! I think hidden power is a great choice, and if you really have grass on your electivire, keep it! I think moves that hit 'mons whose STAB bonus is your weakness are always worthwhile.

I do agree with you that 3 Life Orbs seems heavy. Maybe sub in an expert belt, or another choice item (scarf perhaps?).

There are a couple of problems with your team. First of all, you don't have a defensive core. You don't have anyone tank special attacks or physical attacks. You have four physical attackers, so any physical wall can shut down your whole team. This team can only participate in OU matches, and 4/6 pokemon are terrible and/or outclassed in OU. Im all for using lower tiered pokemon in higher tiers, but many of these pokemon are NU and below (PU).

Your electivire should be 100% physical. Remove HP Grass.

Your team is extremely offensive, and that won't work.

I would recommend starting with a pokemon you want to use. Build your two walls (remember one physically and one specially defensive). All three must cover each other weaknesses, and the two walls MUST resist ALL (or most) of the pokemon you are building your team around weaknesses.

From there, you want a stealth rock user, priority, status and synergy. (some pokemon can fulfill multiple roles)

I recommend 1-2 set up sweepers (one physical and the other special). I also recommend a choice scarf user for revenge killing and speed and a choice band or choice specs user for straight up power. Lastly, you will have your two walls. Your set up sweeper should have a boosting move, life orb or focus sash, and a somewhat high speed. Every pokemon must serve a purpose and not be deadweight. Don't forget to make sure your teammates cover each others weaknesses.

Good luck! If you want, I can show you one of my teams, and ill point out its strengths and weaknesses.

His Electivire is actually fine as is. HP Grass is nice to hit all the Ground/Water types, and those tend to be more physically inclined anyway.

Hyper offense is a legit playstyle, though maybe his team could use some fixing up to make it an actual hyper offense team. Either that or follow your suggestions more to make it a balanced team.

One thing though, Keebos: what are the EV spreads on your Pokemon? That's important to know too.

EV spreads, please?

Mega Heracross runs 40 HP/252 Atk/216 Spe to outrun Bisharp.

As BadPokemon mentioned, Electivire is outclassed in OU. Its coverage is good, but its moves tend to lack power at times. Zapdos, Wash Rotom or Thundurus are better alternatives:

Wash Rotom:
-Volt Switch
-Hydro Pump
-Will-o-Wisp
-Pain Split/Rest
Nature: Bold/Calm
EVs: 248 HP/216 Def/44 Spe or 248 HP/216 SDef/44 Spe
Item: Leftovers

Defensive Heatran pairs well with Heracross because it can counter Talonflame, something Heracross struggles with. This should go over Camerupt:
-Lava Plume
-Toxic
-Taunt/Roar/Earth Power
-Protect/Stealth Rock/Earth Power
Nature: Calm
EVs: 248 HP/252 SDef/8 Spe
Item: Leftovers

Sceptile is outclassed by things like Breloom, who brings more utility with Spore:
-Bullet Seed
-Mach Punch
-Rock Tomb
-Spore
Nature: Jolly/Adamant
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
Item: Life Orb/Focus Sash
Ability: Technician

Altaria is badly outclassed by Dragonite, who packs more power, priority in Extreme Speed and more freedom to set up with Multiscale:
-Dragon Dance
-Outrage/Dragon Claw
-Extreme Speed
-Earthquake
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
Item: Lum Berry
Ability: Multiscale

With Dragonite on the team, you need Rapid Spin/Defog support. Mandibuzz, Skarmory, Starmie and [email protected] can do that for you. Find a way to squeeze them in:

Mandibuzz:
-Foul Play
-Roost
-Defog
-Taunt/Whirlwind
Nature: Bold
EVs: 248 HP/136 Def/108 SDef/16 Spe
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat

Skarmory (transferring may be necessary if this is a cartridge team):
-Roost
-Defog
-Brave Bird/Counter
-Whirlwind/Taunt
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
Item: Shed Shell
Ability: Sturdy

Latias:
-Draco Meteor
-Psyshock/Thunderbolt
-Defog
-Healing Wish/Roost/Recover
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 SAtk/4 SDef/252 Spe
Item: Life Orb

Latios:
-Draco Meteor
-Psyshock
-Thunderbolt/Hidden Power (Fire)/Surf
-Defog
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 SAtk/4 SDef/252 Spe
Item: Life Orb

Starmie:
-Hydro Pump
-Psyshock/Thunderbolt
-Ice Beam
-Rapid Spin
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 SAtk/4 SDef/252 Spe
Item: Life Orb/Leftovers
Ability: Analytic/Natural Cure

^^ This. Especially the part about several of your choices (Camerupt, Electivire, Sceptile, Altaria) being very outclassed in OU.

I was wrong, then. I didn't think it was viable because of his ok special attack stat and it not being invested in other than 4 EV's. I also didn't think about grass/water types.

I realize hyper offense can be used, except these pokemon aren't powerful enough in OU to be used as hyper offensive. I also find hyper offense limiting in terms of switching in and out.
