Banner Making for Complete Idiots
By ACManga

Hello everyone, my name is ACManga, and Ill be giving you a tutorial about basic banner making with Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and up. A very basic banner of mine is what I like to call raindrops. Start with a 400x100 pixel canvas. Pick a color for your foreground, and another for your background. Then, click Filter>Render>Clouds. Next, were going to put in a mezzotint. To do this, go Filter>Pixelate>Mezzotint>Short lines. Now, we need to blur and tilt this. Filter>Blur>Motion Blur>Angle: 45 Distance: 30. There are many other effects you can do with this, and its up to you to decide what to do with it.
As you can tell, that was an incredibly basic banner tutorial that I used a very long time ago. If youve ever seen one of those dirty looking banners called grunges, you might be familiar with the next tutorial. Just so you know, Im going to teach you how to make a grunge brush, not make the banner itself, as there are many ways to do that. A good brush always starts with a nice and abstract image. I suggest looking for one on Gettyone. Now, once you have the image, go Image>Adjustments>Desaturate. Next, Image>Adjustments>Threshold. Looking grungey already, right? Well, if you want it to be more of a brush, cut out little bits of the image until the size is reduced, and its more flexible. (this means that you can use it on pretty much any grunge banner. Well, thats all for now.
