Hey Everyone, i cant sleep lol and i'm thinking about Pokemon (weird lol). I have been playing Pokemon y and i'm really enjoying the game-play its bringing back bit of nostalgia of my days playing Pokemon on the game boy and watching the first series of Pokemon on t.v. Any ways i was thinking about slowpoke since it is kind off my favorite Pokemon of all time lol, and i remembered that in the anime it showed that in order for slowpoke to evolve a nameless shell like creature has to bite slowpokes tale and thus becoming one joined Pokemon that is slowbro. so my question is why isn't this shell like creature an official pokemon. Every animal or creature is a pokemon, which is recorded in a trainers pokedex so why isn't this shell creature a pokemon before it bites slowpokes tale. Also slowpokes tale must be delicious since a random shell creature bites on to it forever and in pokemon silver a guy, who if i remember correctly was a team rocket member sells you one for a lot of money lol. ;0

In the anime it is indeed shown that a Slowpoke evolves into a Slowbro when a Shellder - the shell like creature, lol - bites it's tail (for in-game Slowpoke just evolves around Lv:37). There are also theories that when a Slowpoke evolves into a Slowking when bitten on it's head by a Shellder (while in-game a Slowpoke evolves into Slowking when traded with a King's Rock).

The current relationship between Shellder and Slowpoke is not clearly known by now, but at the time of the first generation of Pokemon, Shellder was the only shell-like creature. Maybe to fill some gaps in the game or Pokedex, this story in the anime has been used. :)

Also, some Pokedex entries state that when the Shellder leaves Slowbro/Slowking, they De-evolve pretty much or forget their moves (just a Pokedex statement, nothing is ever implemented about this anywhere, lol).

Therefore some questions remain like: Why would a Shellder change his form so drastically when attached to Slowbro/Slowking? Why would a Shellder bite Slowpoke's tail/head? Indeed in generation 2, it was stated by Team Rocket (in Slowpoke Well), and some other guy outside of Union Cave, selling Slowpoketail, that this is some kind of expensive delicacy.

I bet there is more to think about, but this makes these Pokemon and the concept still kinda interesting. :) When I was a kid, I thought I needed a Shellder and Slowpoke in my party in order to let my Slowpoke evolve (which wasn't the case lol).

Yeah, this is like how I wondered if I'd need to train three Magnemites to make a Magneton xD Some evolutions in pokémon don't make much sense when translated into a game. The anime can make the theories come alive in a less controlled way.

Yeah, I'm pretty certain that She_Delphox is correct, that the anime explains Shellder's role in Slowpoke's two evolutions. That' why Slowbro looks like he's got a Cloyster on its tail, both of the Pokémon evolve simultaneously.

On the topic of weird evolutions, Gen I is full of them. Sure, the actual methods of evolution is straightforward, but a good few Pokémon just evolve by becoming multiples of that Pokémon, such as Digglet > Dugtrio, Magnemite > Magneton, and at a slight stretch, Doduo > Dodrio.

I feel dumb i forgot about shellder for a minute lmao. Just to theorize though if we compare the pokemon world to the real world we can safely say its similar. Animals in the real world including Humans evolve to there environment. An example of that would be like wolves they hunt in packs because they can take down prey 3X bigger than they are and also they can defend themselves from other predators. In the pokemon world evolution=evolution in the real world, so maybe pokemon that evolve , evolve as a defense mechanism or to catch prey. Its safe to say that wild pokemon not the domesticated ones eat each other. Heatmor eats durant for example i remember reading this in the pokedex the other day so durants defense mechanism bieng made of steel which makes it alot harder for heatmor to melt and consume. So in slowpoke and shellders case maybe its safer for them to be one pokemon to defend themselves from other pokemon? And with the new horde mechanic wouldnt a horde of digletts or magenmites be the same as a dugtrio or magneton lol?
