Ahhh whirlipede. If there's one thing that i love about Gen 5 is that it introduced bug types that are actually good, and not just your typical Scizor, Heracross, and Pinsir lines.

I love to admit that of all the "cocoon" stages of a bug type, Whirlipede is definitely the coolest looking of them all. The way it rolls into a spikey ball of pain really makes it stand out from other "cocoon" stage bug types.

of course when this thing grows into a Scolopede (i can't spell), it becomes a real beast of a bug type with Megahorn and Poison Jab along with great offensive stats such as ATK and Speed. Then Dream world abilities came in and they gave this bug's line Speed Boost, which pretty much makes this bug's line viable from its usual tier to even UBERS!

Time for a new Pokémon of the Week!

Spoiler:

Credit to knilzy95 on DeviantArt

Dustox!

Sapphire Pokédex: When Dustox flaps its wings, a fine dust is scattered all over. This dust is actually a powerful poison that will even make a pro wrestler sick. This Pokémon searches for food using its antennae like radar.

...why a pro wrestler specifically?

Dustox is one of those Pokémon that I really like, but it just doesn't get the stats to be used all that well. I tried using it a couple of times in the Ruby and Emerald and it just didn't work out for me. Still, it is one of my favorite Pokémon.

While Beautifly is my fave of Wurmple's final evo stages, Dustox is still good on its own as well. I find it pretty cute thanks to Jessie's Dustox in the anime, which was one of her star Pokemon when it came to contests. I also loved how her farewell was a throwback to that of Ash's Butterfree.

I love how unique the evolution concept of Wurmple randomly decides if it becomes Dustox or Beautifly in the end, and that's all down to a personality value that is very hard to decode. There has been like no other Pokemon with such a complicated method as that, and that's what makes the Wurmple line unique in their own way.

I must agree that Beautifly will always be my favorite bug and flying type but dustox shows skills as well. I find dustox cute yet it can be very intimidating with its eyes. I feel it lacks the stats that most battlers look for but it still has a pretty good moveset and its definately not a poke that you really forget! And i definately agree with Hikari on the fact that the evoltuion method that decides who you will receive is extremmmely complicated! In oras however i caught a wurmple and decided to go with whichever one i got as my partner to replace my starter and i got beatuifly but i definately would have gone with either the hoenn bug line is definately my fav. :)

I'm gonna get groovy and join this lovely set-up you got here. So, here are my formalities -

NAME // Kiyoshi the Polar Bear, but my real name's Joseph, if you like that. I plan on changing this username when the next round of name changes come up, but I certainly don't mind if you call me Kiyoshi! I wouldn't have picked it in the first place if I didn't like it.

PARTNERS // Galvantula and Venonat, please.

REASONS // I always thought my favorite type was fire as a kid, but I think that was mostly because it fit my brute-force attitude and playstyle. While I still like it and my favorite Pokemon is a fire-type, I find bug-type to be a lot more creative with its moves and interesting. I've always had a soft spot for it and if I were to pick a gym-type to train, it would be bug-type.

And onto the beetlejuicy topic here -

CURRENT TOPIC // Beautifly over Dustox any day. I enjoy Silcoon much more than its counterpart as well. Wurmple has always been one of my favorite lines, and I love its evolution mechanic. Although it does get in the way occasionally when you're breeding for IVs and you have a specific evolution in mind for your Wurmple, in regular gameplay it's like getting a surprise outcome that you have no say in. I like that a lot, actually; I wish Game Freak would utilize systems like it a lot more often than simply constricting it to just a small set of caterpillar-Pokemon and those ditzy pandas near Fallarbor.

Welcome! I know what you mean, Fire-type is my favorite as well, but Bug-types are definitely pretty awesome.

It seems we have a lot of Beautifly lovers here, and I do have to agree that it is a much better battler than Dustox. I don't know what it is, but I still like Dustox despite that.

Welcome! Bug-types definitely were tough to use in Gen I. Thankfully they got some really good moves and now can be some of the best Pokémon to use.

Let's have another Pokémon of the Week, shall we?

Joltik!

Black/White 2 Pokédex: Since it can't generate its own electricity, it sticks onto large-bodied Pokémon and absorbs static electricity.

So an Electric-type Pokémon that can't generate it's own electricity. Make a whole lot of sense.

Joltik is one of the smallest Pokémon in existence, only 0'04"/0.1 m tall and weighing 1.3 lbs/0.6 kg, which makes it very cute in my opinion. It then evolves into Galvantula, which is a pretty powerful and pretty powerful Pokémon in its own right, so for these reasons, I like Joltik quite a bit.

No love for Joltik? I'm surprised, it's pretty cute and it evolves into quite an awesome Pokémon in Galvantula. I'll leave it up for another week in hopes that you guys have some things to say :P

Pick two Bug-type Partner Pokémon: Ledian and Yanmega

Reason(s) for liking Bug-types: They are actually my super favorite type and I talk about them constantly XD. They are really cool and cute. They are fun to use, great during early game, and even have late game potential. They are some of the best to play with for fun and even to compete with. I also think insects are interesting, and Bug types have some of the most unique and individual qualities.

Answer to current topic: Joltik is super adorable, and is a fierce pokemon when it evolves. I actually read a story that had a really interesting joltik in it that could write in the dirt because it was intelligent, and that made me even more interested in it. Spider pokemon also have really interesting dynamics, and with a move like electroweb, doubles are easy to play in with both little cup joltik, and non-little cup Galvantula! If I had to own any first form pokemon it would be Ledyba and Joltik because both are the cutest.

Reason(s) for liking Bug-types: It's weird really because I'm not a big fan of bugs in real life but Pokemon bugs are cool and interesting and in most cases pretty cute! They can be pretty useful in battle too.
Answer to current topic: Joltik is actually one bug Pokemon that I don't use because Galvantula really creeps me out as I'm terrified of spiders! It's a shame though because I'd really like to use a bug/electric Pokemon. Maybe we'll get another one someday! Joltik itself is pretty cute though and as it only has four legs doesn't scare me!

Welcome! It makes sense, Bug Pokémon are much cooler than real bugs :P Bugs really are interesting to learn about because they have some cool quirks, but they can be pretty creepy/gross when you're faced with them.

Also, I'll give you Mega Heracross and Genesect if that's alright.

Welcome! Bug-types do have some good attacks to take out their opponents, which is something I've been glad to see improve over the last 5 years or so.

As for Joltik, I'm glad to see everyone thinks it's cute because it definitely is. Also I never really noticed that Joltik would be good in Little Cup, but looking now I see that it definitely would be a great choice.

Hi! As I'm new to the club I thought I'd tackle some of the previous topics!

What is your favorite Bug-type Pokémon?
I might be a little obsessed with Heracross :) It's strong but cute and I like it not having an evolution line (but glad it got a cool mega!)

What is your favorite Bug-type move?
Bug Bite because it deals damage as well as depriving the opponent of it's berry if it has one.

What Bug-type Pokémon should get a Mega Evolution?
I'd like to see a mega for Volcarona as it's a very cool Pokemon with unique typing.

Which bug types do you feel are the absolute best when it comes to competitive play and which ones are great but need better movesets?
I don't really battle competively and if I do I really just use my fave Pokemon. Heracross and Volcarona would be picks for sure and in the game Genesect destroys everything!

When I get some time I really want to sit down and experiment with a wider selection of bug types and learn more about them... You guys are already inspiring me!

Gonna take a break from Pokémon of the Week since I had an interesting idea for a topic:

What would you like to see done with the Bug-type in future Pokémon games?

Basically, think of ideas for Pokémon, moves, type combinations, etc.

I'd definitely like to see more type combinations, Bug/Fairy would be top of my list!
There is an insect known as a fairyfly or fairy wasp but not many of it's variants are very pretty! They are very very tiny so rarely noticed by humans with children more likely to spot them. That could make for a good Pokemon thing if they're really hard to find in the wild. Perhaps there could me a myth!

This one is kinda pretty...

I'll add my thoughts on this topic.

I want to see a Bug/Dragon-type honestly. This is something I've wanted for quite a while just because I think it would be pretty awesome. I'd also like to see a proper Bug/Water-type since the only one we have is Surskit, which doesn't even really count to me since it evolves out of that type.

I agree, I feel like Yanmega was a missed opportunity for this type combination, but I do hope we can get an actual Bug/Dragon-type in later generations because I saw a Fakemon with the type and figured how awesome it would be.

Welcome! (Sorry I'm late!) I totally agree with this for all types. I think each Pokémon type should have something unique that can be done with it.

So I have a new topic for us, which I've snatched from Hikamaru's Water-type club (with her permission of course).

Create your own new Bug-type move, with PP, Base Power, Accuracy and Description.

I'll think of something for this and post it when I do :P

I apologize as it's been quite a while since I've posted, but things are slowing down a bit for me so I should be back to my regular activity from now on. Anyway, here's our first Pokémon of the Week in quite a while!

Spoiler:

Durant!

X Pokédex: Individuals each play different roles in driving Heatmor, their natural predator, away from their colony.

I always found rivalries in Pokémon fascinating, and this one is no exception. It's cool to see some of these things even if they don't play a ton of importance to the games (correct me if I'm wrong on that).

Durant is a neat little bug and it's pretty strong, but it's never really done a whole lot to stand out to me. It does get some decent moves and can hit pretty hard, so it's still a pretty good Pokémon to use.

I like Durant a lot. I think ants are quite fascinating and Pokemon gave replicated their habits nicely. I agree about Rivalries, they are a neat feature that add detail to the world. Shiny Durants are beautiful! I think Durant would be a good candidate to get a Mega, perhaps becoming a flying ant! Battle wise, they're immune to Poison which is pretty useful. I like how they jump out of the bushes in XY! Definitely one of my favourite Bug-types!

Sorry for the MAJOR lack of activity, but I am back now and I have a new topic for everyone!

Would you like to see a Bug-type as a starter (to be combined with Fire/Grass/Water)?

I think this would be a pretty cool concept that could switch the game up a bit. A lot of games seem to have the cliche of having a forest early on in the game which naturally contains at least 1 or 2 Bug-types. If a Bug-type were introduced early on, it could mean a switch from that philosophy and a few different types could be available early on that may not normally be introduced.

That may seem like kind of a goofy reason for wanting that, but it would be a nice refresher to not have a forest so early in the game as we've seen quite often.
