This is it. Time to do Lenora.

Episode 3 - Lenora Time

Spoiler:
So, after some grinding, everyone is up to Lv. 16 and Frei even evolved into Herdier. Best part, she got Intimidate, which totally makes up for the fact I got a Modest Lillipup. Now, that aside, let's go and head off to get our next encounter for outer Pinwheel Forest.

So after running into two Pidoves, we get ourselves a Tympole. Honestly, it wouldn't be bad...if I didn't have Masao, who can do most of the work of a Water type already, and doesn't die against Electric types.

Please note this is not a Kingdom Hearts reference. There's seriously a Water skill type in Personas 1 and 2. I was going to go with Malaqua, but there are other Water types out there to catch. If it's nature sucks, I'm boxing it since Masao covers the job Aqua could potentially have. I'll consider using her, though.

And while I was destroying the trainers for some experience, Vulcanus has transfigured into Vulcanus Prime. Ye. Now, with that out of the way, let's go fight Messiah again.

rip Messiah Part 2. Now, with that aside, let's get to the stressful part.

Mother of god, this was a stressful one. I'm always afraid of Lenora in lockes because if you make a misplay, you get destroyed. Herdier crit turn 1 and took off half of Urbelluris' HP, then it turned into a slow Rock Blast and Super Potion grind to kill that. Watchhog, as always, was the real threat. I almost lost Vulcanus because I forgot Retaliate was a thing. Luckily, though, nobody died. I can leave this gym with that accomplishment.

Ugh, Messiah's goons again. Looks like we'll have to go and bop them again before we can end this part off. Along with that, I can pick up my inner Pinwheel Forest encounter.

But before we get to bopping Messiah's goons, let's go and catch ourselves this...Sewaddle. It's getting boxed.

rip Messiah's goons Round 3. Although...along the way, Vulcanus had met his untimely end. I was fighting a trainer's Pansage and it paralyzed with Lick the first hit. Right after that, I seriously, and I am not joking here, got paralyzed every single time I tried to use Flame Charge to OHKO the thing. That combined with Leech Seed and five Fury Swipes hits ended it.

Vulcanus (Tepig) ♂ Lv. 5-19 @ Nothing
Nature: Hardy
Ability: Blaze
Moves: Tackle, Arm Thrust, Flame Charge, Defense Curl
Poor, poor, Vulacnus. First, I misspell your name, then you die from hax. You really got screwed, and this has been the cheapest death I've had in a locke in a while. Rest in peace, Vulacnus. You shall be avenged once we destroy all the Pokemon Rangers in the Unova region. Ghetsis 2012-I mean 2016.

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but Volga gave ownership of both of his challenges (This and Duo-Species) to me, due to him not being able to update them anymore.

Anyways, I updated the main post, if I missed anything, let me know.

And, is it normal that people sign up, then never come back to update?

People sometimes only come back to update when they either finish or fail the challenge. It's pretty common with challenges.

Happy to finally see my name in the champion list and welcome to the challenge :]

Unfortunately it is normal for people to never come back to update. I've been off and on in charge of the solo challenge thread for years and there are still challenges that haven't been updated from before I started.

Update:

Episode 7 everyone, been up for a couple days but I forgot to post here :P

I lost my FireRed game!

Username: Astinus
Version: Blue (Kanto), Crystal (Johto), Emerald (Hoenn), Diamond (Sinnoh), Black (Unova), X (Kalos)
Single/Ultimate?: Ultimate

Update 1:

Spoiler:
I started Blue in work, after deciding to do a Nuzlocke run on it. Since there was no way for me to see my trainer number before I picked my starter, I used RNG to pick one, and wound up with Charmander (Anderson). Which is okay.

After giving Oak his parcel and buying Poke balls, I caught a Pidgey (Jacques) on Route 1. Then went and got a female Nidoran (Ria) on Route 22. After catching these two, I decided to do some training before the second Rival fight.

Stuck my GameBoy SP into my pocket while it was still on, and my game reset. I lost all my progress except getting Anderson.

So I had to replay everything, but I still wound up with Jacques and Ria. And still decided to train them before the second Rival fight. Which is where I left off, making sure to obsessively save this time!

Team:

Anderson the Charmander - level 10
-Scratch
-Growl
-Ember

Jacques the Pidgey - level 10
-Gust
-Sand-Attack

Ria the Nidoran - level 10
-Tackle
-Growl
-Scratch

Here's episode 8, the most recent episode of my Pokémon Ruby Nuzlocke!!

(See the series so far here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LhhfMnBDYA&index=2&list=PLCpRzBB8fuxfez6Gtc-KzMa3yopMzu8OP)

A brief summary of episodes 1-7:

Spoiler:
We started with our wonderful Treecko called 'Ecco', ready to set out on a glorious adventure. However, the game had other ideas. After catching two Zigzagoon ('Ziggy' and 'Casper') and a Taillow ('Fitzgerald'), our wonderful Ecco was taken from us by the most thuggish of Youngsters, with his level 8 Taillow getting a crit! (R.I.P.)

However, we somehow managed to rally and take down Roxanne in emphatic style through a combination of Harden and Confusion, put to brilliant use by 'Viola' our Dustox.

Along with 'Jonah Hill' the Whismur and another Taillow called 'Carla', we have delivered the letter to Steven, and are ready to try our hand at another gym...

I got distracted by Pokemon Puzzle Challenge!

Update #2 for Blue Nuzlocke

Spoiler:

Ria's turning out to be a valuable member of the team. She and Jacques worked together to defeat our rival with some ease. We headed up to Viridian Forest, where I hoped to catch a Caterpie for the upcoming fight against Brock.

I killed the first Caterpie we came across.

So I decided to get right back to training, and got everyone up to level 15. Along the way, I popped into the grass of Route 2 to see what I could get. Nugget the Rattata joined the team and was quickly leveled up to 15.

It was time to face Brock. Again, Ria was the key here. She used Growl on Brock's two Pokemon, weakening their attacks enough that Anderson could safely Leer and Ember them. With the Bolder Badge in hand, we headed to Route 4, battling the trainers and catching Highwind the Spearow along the way. Because I had no foresight and passed up the Magikarp.

Mt. Moon was easy, and mostly everyone got to fight, most rising up to level 20. Except for Highwind and Bartolo the Zubat, who were shoved into the reserves. I grabbed the Helix Fossil on the way out of Mt. Moon, reached Cerulean City, and faced off against the rival for the third time.

The battle was kind of difficult, due to the rival's Rattata's Hyper Fang and the rival's Pidgeotto. But, again, Ria held everything together, joined by Jacques and Nugget to win the fight.

And then I got tired of playing for the day.

Team:

Anderson the Charmeleon - level 20
-Scratch
-Growl
-Ember
-Leer

Jacques the Pidgeotto - level 20
-Gust
-Sand-Attack
-Quick Attack

Nugget the Rattata - level 16
-Water Gun
-Tail Whip
-Quick Attack
-Hyper Fang

Ria the Nidorina - level 18
-Tackle
-Growl
-Scratch
-Poison Sting

So like an idiot, I forgot to save after grinding the first time, so I had to go back and redo grinding. Took me a bit, but it's done and the team is ready...for the next update.

Episode 4 - Burgh Gets Bodied

Spoiler:
Now with grinding out of the way and the one building with all the trainers cleared out offscreen, let us go and deal with, you guessed it, even more of Messiah's goons.

rip Messiah's goons part...5? I'm already losing track of how many times we've sent Messiah's goons packing. Speaking of packing, let's send Burgh packing too because he's bad.

My god, this was the easiest gym battle ever. Rock Blast absolutely murdered Whirlipede and I double crit Levanney to death. Dwebble was just a single Bubblebeam to oblivion and that was it. Seriously, I knew Burgh was bad, but I didn't know having a Rock type basically broke this battle. Since I totally broke this battle, let's go get the newest rival battles done.

To be honest, Bianca was more annoying than Cheren. That's beside the point, though, since they're both scrubs. Let's get an encounter and have a grand old time.

And while I was hoping for a Sandile to make my life against Clay's Excadrill easier, I get this thing instead. Sure, it could replace Vulacnus, but I don't really want another Fire type...for now.

Say hello to Agilao the Darumaka...who is getting boxed. Anyway, onward to the Desert Resort.

So after two more Darumaka runins, I finally found the mon I wanted.

That aside, this time, I went with another Persona 1 character name. Introducing Reiji Kido, our Sandile, ladies and gentlemen. Anyway, with that aside, I'm going to skip my Relic Castle encounter, even though I know there's a fossil there I can get. Since I have to go back there later anyway, I can kill two birds with one stone. Let's head on over to Nimbasa.

...and run into more of Messiah's goons, part 6...I think. Doesn't matter since the next round with Messiah in the flesh is coming up, but before that...we got two encounters to grab. Route 16 and Lostlorn Forest.

.....We start with a bad mon in this gen. Fantastic.

Obvious name for a Poison type. It's getting boxed without a doubt :P

And in Lostlorn Forest, I found the basic replacement for Masao in case he dies somehow in a magical incident.

Now, with this one, I went with another Persona for a nickname. It's male, and it's Grass type, so I figured I'd go with Narcissus of the Lovers Arcana. Anyway, let's go fight Messiah for the third time.

We beat Messiah, but without a loss this time. Ubelluris died from his Sigilyph's Psybeam even with Eviolite. It didn't die from a Power Gem and it was a clean crit that ended him. Why is it that when a team member puts in work in the gym, it gets killed. Maybe this is a sign, and the worst part is now my "kill all the Emolgas before they pull annoying business with Volt Switch" strategy is out the window.

Ubelluris (Boldore) ♂ Lv. 11-26 @ Eviolite
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Sturdy
Moves: Smack Down,Mud-Slap, Power Gem, Headbutt
Is this karma or something? Did he deserve to die this way because of how easily I swept the third gym? It's not fair. First, Vulacnus gets hax'd, and now Ubelluris dies from a crit. I feel like karma is trying to tell me something. My resolve to destroy Messiah's soul has now grown a lot. He will be bodied, and Ubelluris' death will not be in vain.

Welp...looks like I'll need to grind up a replacement member for Ubelluris...and grind for the next gym now that I beat Messiah. I'm so sad right now.

Team Innocent Sin

Gry (Watchog) ♀ Lv. 26 @ Scope Lens
Nature: Modest
Ability: Keen Eye
Moves: Grass Knot, Super Fang, Crunch, Confuse Ray

Frei (Herdier) ♀ Lv. 25 @ Amulet Coin
Nature: Modest
Ability: Intimidate
Moves: Work Up, Tackle, Take Down, Crunch

Masao (Pansage) ♂ Lv. 26 @ Miracle Seed
Nature: Impish
Ability: Gluttony
Moves: Cut, Leech Seed, Bite, Seed Bomb

Aqua (Palpitoad) ♀ Lv. 26 @ Quick Claw
Nature: Brave
Ability: Hydration
Moves: Mud Shot, Supersonic, Uproar, Bubblebeam

Does trading with NPC's in game constitute a violation to Rule #3?
No, it just counts as a capture for that area.

For example, if you trade for the Onix in Violet City in GSC/HGSS, then it counts as a capture for Violet City.
But if you catch the Bellsprout on, for example, Route 31, then trade for the Onix, you do NOT get an extra catch for Route 31.

Update#3
Won the Cool Contest with Flappy - netting me a Pikachu gift.
Caught a Voltorb on Rt 110 and named it Bad Gag Gift - In doing so my Poochyena evolved into Mightyena.

Unboxed lvl9 DaBoss/Zubat since... I need someone that can fly eventually.
Defeated Wattson with only my lvl 23 Nibbles/Mightyena. Didn't stand a chance.

Hey I'm starting kinda new to PokeCommunity. I've had my account for the last four years but haven't really posted or made a thread. I was hoping to get some suggestions for Nuzlocke Variant Challenge on my Pokemon Platinum. I would love to know what rules you use for a Nuzlocke Run.
We're not pawns of some scripted fate. I believe we're more. Much more... There's something between us all. Something that keeps us together... Like...invisible ties, connecting us.

UPDATE #18: ICE TO SEE YOU, TO SEE YOU ICE
Spoiler:
So, after literally months away, I'm back for more HeartGold Nuzlocke! Last time, we liberated the Radio Tower, Terra the Quagsire saved the day once again, and Justin the Espeon finally learned a Psychic-type move! With business in Cianwood City complete, I headed out along Route 44 towards Ice Path. After catching a Lickitung, whom I called Lulu, I battled the few trainers along the way before taking on the chilly cave.

Ice puzzles were never my thing, but I somehow managed to get hold of the Waterfall HM without too many issues. Amongst the Zubat and Golbat, I had my first unique encounter just before the first patch of ice: a Swinub, a Pokémon I used in my first Gold playthrough. This one I named Lars, and I resolved to train him in preparation for the next Gym. This plan, however, fell completely through when I reached Blackthorn City and remembered that Clair had — of all things — a Hydro Pump-using Kingdra. In fact, only Clair's Gyarados, ironically enough, was the only member of her team that wouldn't deal super-effective damage on an Ice/Ground-type like Lars. Balls. I needed a new plan.

With very few options available to me, I decided to pull Scarlett the shiny Gyarados out of the PC. With her learning Ice Fang within a few levels, she might stand a chance against Clair's Dragonair; Maxwell should be able to one-shot her Gyarados, and if he could paralyse Kingdra, we might have a chance of winning without casualties. Before that happens, though, we need to gain a heck of a lot more levels (seriously, the level curve at this point in the game is crazy), so I headed out to Route 45, where the first Pokémon I found (that wasn't a Geodude or Graveler — and yes, I'm still upset at losing Pavel) was a female Gligar; I called her Scorpia. The trainers along the route helped, but not by much, and I was forced to grind against the underlevelled wild Pokémon in the grass. This is going to take a while.

ETA (8:49 PM):
Spoiler:
OK, literally a minute after I finished posting this, I went and challenged the first trainer in Clair's Gym. Maxwell took out both of his Dratini without much difficulty, but then the trainer threw out a Seadra. The thing critted with Bubble Beam. I've lost Maxwell.

How the [EXPLETIVE REDACTED] am I meant to do this now?

I'm so sorry, Maxwell.

Started up my 3ds this morning. Continued on.
Psych had 2 close calls while levelling. 1 hp at the end of each battle.
Got to first gym, Muddy had her time to shine.

Water gun through the entire gym ending up defeating Nosepass to finish off Roxanne and get me my first badge with 3 hp left.

However sadly before Ruckus had a bad encounter against a seedot earlier and got taken out by Bide.

Current Team:
Muddy - Mudkip - lv. 14
Psych - Ralts - lv. 10
Sky - Taillow - lv. 11

Deceased:

Hey I'm starting kinda new to PokeCommunity. I've had my account for the last four years but haven't really posted or made a thread. I was hoping to get some suggestions for Nuzlocke Variant Challenge on my Pokemon Platinum. I would love to know what rules you use for a Nuzlocke Run.
For normal rules, there's really only three of them.

1. Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead, and must be released (or boxed).
2. Only the first encounter on each route can be caught, no second chances.
3. Trading is completely banned, but trading for the purpose of evolution is perfectly fine.

You can add in optional things to make things harder on yourself if you want to, but that's up to you. As for locke variants, you could do a monotype locke where you only use mons of one type, a Wedlocke run, in which yu could always check the Wedlocke Challenge thread for details on that one. Then there's m personal favorite, the randomizer nuzlocke. Sure, you'll have to be using an emulator for this one, so if you're using the physical copy, then you'll have to skip out on that one.

There's also the Eliminationlocke, where you pick six mons and can only use those six, so it kinda cancels out one of the traditional locke rules in which you can only catch the first encounter. Anyway, there are probably more locke varients out there, but the ones I mentioned are the more common ones.

And just so I'm staying on topic, I'm working on my next update.

Rules of Engagement:
- Nickname all Pokemon Caught.
- black/white out is a GG.
- Dupe Clause is in effect
- Shiny pokemons are exempted from the area-capture clause

Let' begin! BTW, I decided to play the normal soul silver game after trying to nuzlocke Drayano's Storm Silver. I got wiped thrice on three different playthroughs. The first with Faulkner's Fartfetch'd of destruction (I had no type coverage for his birds), the second time with my rival Tomato in Azalea with a freaking Hidden Power Earthquake Bayleef and the last time on Bugsy's gym with his Heracross that countered my poor Manda the Arbok. I considered trying again but after looking at nuzlocke's of Storm Silver I decided it's a game that cannot be beat while playing nuzlocke so I'm back with the original game. Sorry, I'm a wimp.
