I'm running through my FR hack to glitch test, and I'm already hung up at the first rival battle in the lab. After Oak gets done giving the tutorial speech ("You've never battled before?"), the battle options (FIGHT, BAG, PKMN, RUN) never come up and the game just remains stuck in the battle screen with a blank square where the battle options would be.

Any idea what would be causing this or how to figure out the problem?

The biggest thing is what modifications have you made to the ROM thus far. It's likely you inserted something incorrectly, or maybe you overwrote something you shouldn't have overwrote. Once you identify what you did, the cause can be pin pointed and removed.

I've made hundreds of modifications to my ROM. Wild battles are working fine, it's just trainer battles that are glitching out.

Any idea where I'd look in a hex editor or something? I can't just start removing things one-by-one, I've done way too much.

What controls Oak's messages coming up in battle? I'd like to remove them and see if it helps.

No, but I inserted a code made by the same dude. So now I'm suspicious of the one I inserted...

How did you fix it?

KDS made a new version which fixed the issue after I reported that it locked key input when the fight/bag/pkmn/run selection comes up.
I just realised that I read the post incorrectly. Thought we had the same problem. Sorry about that. DX

Have you tried other trainer battles besides Oak speech battle? Oaks battle is kind of separate than the other trainer battles.

I got lucky and realized I made a backup 2 nights ago. Turns out it's definitely the Light Ball ASM I put in.
