In Pokémon games, we've got a variety of types in which Pokémon are categorized, ranging from normal, all the way to fairy. Each of these types have their advantages, disadvantages, strength, weaknesses, immunity, and more. They're all unique in their own right, and serve a special purpose.

Of all these Pokémon types, which do we find ourselves liking more, and why? Which type is our least favorite? From of favorite type, which Pokémon are we most fond of, and why do we like it so much? If we were to introduce a typing of our own, what would we call it? What would its weaknesses be? What would this particular type group be super-effective against? Which Pokémon would we see being put here?

Let's be as creative as we possibly can, everyone!

Favorite type: Dragon, Dark, Water. I feel like these types feet me as a person, and Pokemon of these types usually fit my likings.

Least favorite type: Fighting. Idk, it always seemed similar to Normal. Also Ground and Rock should basically be the same thing.

Favorite Pokemon from favorite types: Dragon:Dragonair, Dark:Umbreon, Water:Gyarados

New type: Light type. I dont even know how we have "Fairy" type but not Light type. But alright.

We could also have types Plasma, Cosmic etc. Following Pokemon logic, which doesnt really follow logic, there are no limits lol.

Favorites: Fire, Bug, Dragon

I've always been a big fan of fire, so Fire will always be the clear cut number one. There are a ton of cool Bug-type Pokémon out there, so they make the list l. Dragons are generally awesome and Dragon-types are absolute beasts.

Least Favorites: Fairy, Grass

There really aren't any Fairy-type Pokémon that appeal to me at all yet, save for Gardevoir, so Game Freak hasn't impressed me with the new type. Grass-type isn't terrible, but given the usual amount of Pokémon I like out of all of the Pokémon that are a certain type, I really don't like a whole lot of Grass-types.

Favourite Type: Dark and Ice for Pokémon; Fighting for moves. Dark and Ice are based purely on aesthetic appeal (although dark wins out over ice for being more useful, generally). Fighting moves are, in my opinion, some of the most creative, useful and (at least in the fifth generation) nicely animated moves in the game.

Least Favourite: Fighting, for Pokémon; Electric, for moves. The fighting types really just don't do anything for me, and there's little to distinguish them from other types. Electric moves just feel like the same thing, but with different numbers. If I see one more Thunderdibblydoodah I'm going to flip a multitude of tables.

Favourite Pokémon: Dark is Absol - always. Ice is Articuno.

New Type: Maybe we could use some kind of space-y cosmic-y type at this point, there's certainly plenty of Pokémon it could be applied to: Clefairy, Elegyem, Deoxys... Other than that I don't really think there's anything else that really warrants existence that comes to mind.

New type: Light type. I dont even know how we have "Fairy" type but not Light type. But alright.
Is Psychic not essentially the Light type anyway, just with a weird failure against the Dark type?

  • Favourite: Fighting, both moves and Pokémon. But mostly for the Pokémon. I always like the idea of human-like Pokémon as it makes this series more diverse, and many of my favourites are Fighting too. I would see why some people are tired of the same old, but I do think that not every one of them are unoriginal and ugly.
  • Least favourite: Ghost for Pokémon and Bug for moves. Most Bug Pokémon aren't useful, and Ghost Pokémon are just downright boring. Then again I never like the concept of ghosts in the first place.
  • Favourite Pokémon from favourite types: Sawk, Mienshao and Hawlucha are all Fighting types.
  • New type: I want to see a Sound type. We have many sound-based moves like Uproar, Hyper Voice and Sing. We even have sound-based Abilities like Soundproof, so why not make a new type for all of those moves? Perhaps it could even help balance out the type chart once again.

Not necessarily. Psychic is a power of mind, Light is like purity, opposite of dark. All three are some kinds of energy forms, but still have differences, Psychic being based on your mind, and Dark and Light being based on your spirit.
That's how I see it.

Whoo, types! Types are one of my favorite things about the series, because I always love elemental systems and categorizations. They add something to a fictional world, and make it easier to create something within its template. In fact, I categorize everything in the real world according to my own elemental system.

Now, let's go:

Favorite Type: Psychic or Fire. Both of these types have attacks that are the most satisfying to me. Ones that do a lot of damage, and have reddish magenta colors that are to my liking. Psybeam and Flare Blitz are highly satisfying examples of them. Also, I like a lot of Fire-type Pokemon. Also, a lot of Psychic-type Pokemon are aesthetically pleasing as well. My favorite Pokemon is actually one that evolves into a Fire/Psychic type (Braixen), so there is that as well. I just feel that Psychic fits me the best out of all the types.

Least Favorite Type: Ground or Rock. I've always found this type to be so boring, and redundant. Rock is basically the same thing as it as well, so I group them together. I also don't like the grayish brown color palettes on most of these Pokemon. They don't stand out at all, and their attacks have little satisfaction with me. I rarely pack a Ground/Rock type with me, or attempt to. It's difficult to avoid though because their attacks are useful.

Also, Water. It just doesn't catch my attention so much due to the abundance of Pokemon, and the fact that i find the attacks to also be boring. Everything is just kind of blue and blends together, and is for the most part based on aquatic creatures. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of fish.

Favorite Pokemon from Favorite Types:

Psychic - Delphox.

Fire - Braixen.

...That was pretty obvious, wasn't it? I love their designs, their foxishness, and how beautiful and graceful they look. Like pretty witch sorceresses. And Braixen is absolutely adorable as well. I also see myself in these two Pokemon. They have a lot of the witchy magical elements that I adore, and are very spiritually/mentally oriented.

New Type: Nope. I've never wanted a new-type. I think it is unnecessary and we have too many, to be honest. Some are just plain redundant (Ice and Water, Ground and Rock) I think we should have LESS types, and combine the ones that are redundant. But that's probably never going to happen.

However, I'll show you anyways what I'd do with the type-chart:

- Fire: Stays the same.

- Electric: Mostly the same, but is altered to include what people would say would go into a "Light-type." It would focus more on luminous aspects as well, since a lot of Electric-types are light-focused. (Lanturn, Ampharos) It'd gain a few more weaknesses. (Like one against Dark or something) And probably a few more strengths against things that would make sense.

- Water: Combined with Ice.

- Magic: Combination of Fairy and Psychic-types. I know Fairy was just introduced and I do like that type quite a bit, but these two types just have so many similarities.

- Dark: Combined with Ghost. A lot of Ghosts have attributes similar to darkness. (Like Shadow Ball.)

- Mineral: Combination of Steel, Rock, and Ground.

- Grass: Stays the same.

- Dragon: Stays the same.

- Bug: Stays the same.

- Fighting - Stays the same.

- Normal - Stays the same.

- Poison: Stays the same.

- Flying: Stays the same.

Under my system, this would cut down the current types from 18 to 13. A more manageable number, in my opinion. Although still too many. But that's the most I could cut down without altering the chart too much.

You are my exact opposite xD. I loooove Water types and all water attacks and Ice is defo different to water . There arent many fire types I like but then red is one of my least favourites, my only fire fave is cyndaquil and evos(surprising lack of red and orange on it huh ;) ) Steel is one of my fave too and has a lot of different properties than rock or ground. and dark and ghost are very different too. I do agree tho that fairy is reundant xD

Favorite Types:

Fairy: Good all round good S Attack moves and good Attack moves. Supper effective against Dragon and Dark is useful.

Physic: Great All out S attack type, Useful against Fighting and Flying.

Fighting: Pure all out Attack power Useful for when you don't have a type advantage against opponent.

Ghost: Just a fun type to use good counter to Physic.

Dark: Great against Ghosts and Physic( but lacks any high power moves).

Least Favorite types:

Ground: Just Boring, I can't explain it just bores me.

Ice: Ive always been underwhelmed by Ice types, they promise so much (I.e strong against Dragon) but never live up to what I expect . Ice moves don't offer much choice they are either low powered or high powered with low accuracy).

I always loved Steel types.
I hate that Ice types are so hated by GameFreak. Also, Fairy should be immune to dragon.
I'd totally make Light types, albeit overpowered oops

I'd love to bring back the ??? type as "enigma" and just create the most obnoxious sweeper ever, one that has stabbed attacks that aren't strong or weak against anything, meaning that there are no counters. SHEER UTTER MADNESS

As for myself, my favorite type would definitely have to be fire, as it includes a lot of my well-liked Pokémon out there, such as Vulpix, Charizard, Charmander, Ninetales, and so forth. Ninetales, especially; not only is it beautiful-looking, but it's also rather good when it comes to competitive. I'm not sure if I have any least favorite type, but I'm kind of careful when using dragons nowadays while battling; although they look great, they still do have a lot of weaknesses, especially if they have a secondary typing. This definitely wouldn't have been the case if it weren't for that.

My fave type is definitely Water. They have well-rounded stats, are quite versatile and they tend to always be an essential part of a team thanks to HMs like Waterfall, Dive and Surf. Also, they are based on all different kinds of aquatic and amphibious creatures, and are always strong attackers, capable walls or a combination of both.

Fairy comes in a close second. Besides not only looking so adorable and majestic, they are also powerful special attackers (but you also get occasional physical outsiders like Mawile and Granbull) and can take hits fairly well, along with learning a variety of support moves.

I also love a lot of Grass, Electric, Ice, Normal, Ghost, Dark and Psychic-types as well. Most tend to have good designs or a lot of usable traits and moves.

When it comes to my favorite Pokemon types, my top three favorites are Water, Ice, and Steel. As of least favorite type, I would have to go with Grass. As for my favorite Pokemon that fall under my top three favorite types, I have a lot of favorites. As for what new type I would add, I am actually undecided on that.

It has to be Electric, it's my fate.
Electric-types are fast, some even more so or are exceptional special attackers. They can hit very hard and fast, which makes them a force to be reckoned. They have only one weakness: the ground-type; however, they can easily outmaneuver pokemon with the aforementioned type by hitting them with effective moves, fast, and hard (or by switching).

Well, it is certainly a legit explanation, and definitely makes sense. But it also doesn't fit this situation entirely. Look at Gardevoir, look at Togekiss, dont they look like some creatures that would appear out of nowhere during dark times and save you from evil? Cos they do to me.
Next, Fairy is resistant and super effective against fighting. How does that add up to Fighting being heroic?
Next, look at the fighting types. They all look like Pokemon that can FIGHT, not necessarily be HEROIC. Toxicroak, Breloom, Scrafty and some others, do you think of HEROIC when you see them. Not necessarily. They do look like fighters though.

Dont get me wrong (!), thank you for the link, this definitely sheds the light, and I kinda understand this now, but no matter what the real reason is, it wont entirely fix my discontent with lack of Light type. This is basically the conflict between my seeing of light and the one from Japanese tradition. I grew up on shows, movies, and cartoons where light and good was represented by magic creatures that were given amazing powers to protect from evil. So when I think of a Light creature, I imagine a creature that will pop up when needed the most and kick evil's butt by just raising the arm and creating a light ball/beam like a beast.

Therefore, I still stand behind what I said before. Psychic as mind powers, Dark and Light as spirit powers. Fighting as Martial arts and whatnot.

To make this more complicated, I dont think Dark is necessarily evil nor that Light is necessarily good, so we could divide those just as well.

Thanks again for the link, it's good to know :)

In terms of favorites and least favorites: Bug > Electric > Ice > Fire > rest > Ground = Rock > Poison > Fairy

Don't get me wrong, I think fairies are cute and awesome, but I had to make the list. The only thing about them is that I favor only Mawile - and that was ever since I played Sapphire. Not any other among the fairies gave me that same lasting impression. I do know that my sister would smack me for this, though.

Bugs are just adorable, if not cool. They're pretty weak in general, yeah, but that makes them all the more so fun to use in battle. Beedrill and Vespiquen have always been up there, Skorupi too. To some extent, I'd even count Vibrava. Electric and Ice are awesome types; always have been my favorite RPG 'elements.' Lastly, Fire is worth the mention because Reshiram, Typhlosion and Delphox, even if that doesn't make sense.

If I'd add a new type, it would be Celestial. Not sure how resistances would be delivered, but I'd think rock, ground, flying, poison and/or water are good candidates - thinking that they may be pretty immune, or at least well-adapted, to "weathering." As for weaknesses: Psychic, Fairy, Dark and Ghost..supernatural stuff. Now for their moves' effectiveness...hmm, i can't make any sense of it. Probably neutral? No pokemon could resist a celestial move, but it isn't super effective against any, either.

i always saw psychic as a light type (lightscreen for example is a psychic attack)
in a trio of good (psy) evil (dark) and neutral )chaotic) (ghost)

Favorite Type(s) : Fighting, Psychic, Fire. I love how Fighting can kick butts of SO many good types (normal, ice, steel, rock), Psychic is also amazing because its strong in general. Fire is just the starter of mine everytime, so yeah I like it!

Least Favorite Type(s) : Bug, Grass, Rock. Bug, why does it even exist? Grass, weakling. Rock, not really good for much, Ground is always a better choice to have.

Favorite Pokemon from Favorite Types : Fighting - Blaziken/Infernape, Psychic - Gardevoir. Fire - Charizard.

New Type : Mystic. For ancient and mysterious pokemons, when Earth bloomed with un-seeable mystic energies. Super Effective on Dark/Ghost/Steel/Electric. Weak to Ground/Dragon/Ice. Not immune to anything at all.
