I've always been overweight, but it doesn't bother me that much, I like to feel not fat and be able to go places and run and stuff without getting short of breath, but that's just how it's always been. The skinniest I've been since I finished growing was freshman year when I weighed 198 once after not eating all day and taking a big ol poop. But that was back when I was physically active pretty much all day every day and ate maybe once per day. Both of my parents were fat their whole lives, their parents were fat, and their parents were fat. I haven't had much of a chance. My dad slimmed down a lot, but that's just one side of the fat heritage.

I'm 5 feet and 110lbs. I don't know if that's good or bad, it's probably normal. I want to start losing a bit of weight and gaining muscle though. I feel like I have more fat than I should have and not enough muscle :'(

I need to gain weight. I want to weigh at least 220, but the struggle to maintain weight is always an issue with me. Even at my age my metabolism is a wonder. I've tried protein supplements and eating a hearty, balanced meal three times a day but I have no clue how I don't hold onto it. I'll have to talk to the doctor about this, because I forgot what he said last time.

I remember there was an article that had a top 10 ways to lose weight without exercising, and these were:

1. standing up straight all the time and having your spine hunched
2. drinking water with a piece of lemon
3. eat small pieces of large food bit by bit
4. relax
5. not chewing gum
6. walking most of the time each day

The last four I couldn't remember.
Oh my.
I wouldn't call myself a personal trainer, doctor, or physiologist, but even the little knowledge I have about the human body could let me discredit most of these.

Spoiler:

1 - Bad posture will not help you. With anything. Maybe if you want to look a little shorter. or like Quasimodo In fact, bad posture can cause a lot of nasty side effects and health problems down the line!
Proper posture, on the other hand, has a whole slew of benefits. It doesn't necessarily help you lose weight directly, but it does facilitate breathing, increase focus, and mentally avail you.

You can read an article about Proper Posture, here.

2 - Lemon water only helps to fight hunger cravings, not make you lose weight. It's another greatly beneficial drink, though, like the green tea we were talking about earlier.

Don't judge me for the Lifehack link.

3 - This... is a technique for digestion. If you want something psychological, try using smaller plates when eating. Even if you eat the same amount, it'll trick your brain into thinking you've had more.

4 - Now this one is actually pretty valid. Stress is a real cause of weight gain, and can actually block you from losing any. Remember that the mind has power over the body, and you have power over the mind.

5 - What? There are a lot of weird chemicals in some types of gum, that's true, but I don't think it would have that much of an effect. I mean, stop chewing it, sure! It's kind of an annoying habit, most gums have addiction forming chemicals in them, and it's (arguably) not good for your teeth. But unless you're having some sort of negative allergic reaction of some sort, chewing gum will neither make you gain weight nor lose it as far as I know.

6 - Walking is a good exercise, and does burn calories, but isn't a get thin quick plan. A general rule of thumb would be that a person weighing 160-180 pounds usually burns 100 calories per mile. That's a lot of walking if you're aiming for the 3,500 calories, 1 pound per week method.

Thinking about that, though...

Something else a lot of people fail to take into consideration about weight is that it might be from your heritage. No, I'm not saying that a chubby grandfather screwed you over. But if you're from a strong bloodline descended from vikings then you're going to be a bit larger if you're healthy. It's just how your ancestors adapted to live. You should do some ancestral research, and consider what things should and should not be in your diet.

And don't forget to take everything on the internet with a grain of salt. It's never better than consulting a Physician, Dietitian, or just using your good ol' common sense.

I... can't even remember the last time I measured myself. Weight or height.
I will say I'd definitely lost some muscle last year. Between falling out of training, and messing my back up for a bit from some poorly executed heavy lifting.
I'm finally starting to get it back now, and I gotta say I'm ecstatic about that. There's nothing quite like that satisfying burn! :D

A true lady such as myself does not disclose her weight, but I do alright for someone of my height and build. I look good in tight jeans and that is what God intended! I don't go to a gym or whatever but I jog for two hours every day so my level of fitness is excellent anyway.

I'm currently search for that article on Yahoo, which was where I found the article in the first place, but I can't seem to find it.

I would like to applaud Sonata for half-assing his healthy living plan and still getting results. That's exactly how I'd do it, too.

I remember when I went to the doctor's office a few days before ORAS came out, I weighed 150 pounds. But then a good way through December I was near 138. However, it's starting to hover around 140 again, and I forgot to take the small scale from my parents' bathroom with me to college, so I have no way to check as is.

For what it's worth, I am starting to have more salads, even with just lettuce and cucumber and no dressing, and fruits too. Fridays and Saturdays are the days that i'll eat basically whatever I want to.

yo I'm 5'8ish and 120 pounds. I'm a psyducking twig, but I don't mind because I can pretty much eat all the junk food I want and not put on any weight.

Yeah what he said ^

It catches up to us all eventually. They call it gaining the freshman 15.
Not entirely how that freshman thing typically works, but...

In my second year of university, my school's faculty went on strike for like... six months or so? So, I just sat at home playing video games.

That did not do me any favours @[email protected]

I have the weirdest body. Try as I might I can not put weight on, I can eat until i'm so full that I can't touch another bite and my weight will just stay the same; even if I binge on junk food.

4'11 and 95-100 pounds. Apparently that's underweight but I don't really look it.

I guess I do go for a run every morning, but it's more to wake myself up. The cold air does wonders and if I didn't i'd feel groggy all day.

um I already see members I don't recognize I'm having a panic a attack

as for the "freshman 15"... I can defunct this myth by saying that i actually lost weight my freshman year

though that's mainly attributed to the fact i felt like a garbage can after that christmas when i did nothing but eat and then had to work my ass off for track

so

I know some people who actually gained 15 pounds and then some who lost pounds when they were freshman. I think it just comes down to how you eat in comparison to how you ate before you went to college.

I'm 22, work with donuts and coffee, and I've still managed to keep my same shape. Hopefully it'll stick for a bit longer hahah.

That's not underweight.. I am similar to you 4'10" and 91-92 and considered healthy. When I was down to 84 it was unhealthy so I put on some weight. Been a struggle because I had been overweight and trying to combat it for much of my life (talking like 145lbs) so a good almost 60lbs heavier than I am now.

If you wanted, you could see about getting a Bodyfat index test done if you are concerned? (They have machines for it or I think you can use certain calipers?) But unless you're feeling weak and etc, I wouldn't worry.

You're the opposite of me in other aspects though. I can happily eat over 6000 calories in one day (that's 20 macdonalds cheeseburgers, or 25 mars bars, or about 100 Pancakes to put it into perspective) in a binge without a struggle through the day. I know because I've done it before (cheesecake, nut-butters, creams, and fried things are very easy and moreish to have.) If I don't watch myself, I can easily let myself consume 2-3 times my daily recommendation regularly.

Guess it's because I've been brought up in an Italian family where our dinners were often very big, carby/fatty/fried (pasta and cheese, or salted fried cod called baccala) and full of many courses as per my dad's Calabrese tradition. Grandmas would always be spooning more into plates and get offended if you couldn't finish their dishes. Sweets like cheesecakes were always available in the freezer.. and Canada is also fast-food laden, etc. Mom doesn't cook like that anymore, and subsequently, all of the members of my family have lost weight.. but now that I live alone I can better watch what I have. Since learning to bake for myself, I rarely like to indulge in store-bought sweets simply because I prefer the taste of homemade stuff... but I still have a mega sweet-tooth and will have a square or two of chocolate (or something like honey/ maple syrup) daily to curb my cravings (sometimes it's a bit more than that but I try to keep it under control.)

It is soo hard to have such self-restraint. However, now I don't envy the people who say they can "eat whatever they want and not gain a thing" because since my lifestyle and dietary change.. I prefer the fresh stuff to the junk.. and I find it's nicer to look forward to having something naughty in moderation.

.. Oops.. I've written too much. Don't mind my TL;DR.

...
I could go for some doughnuts, right now.
Come to my house. I pride myself in my doughnut-making (look at the doughnut thread.) Love the fried, glazed, filled ones.. but I also want to soon experiment making some coconut-flour healthier ones whilst maintaining the good flavour and texture of the traditional variety.
The only thing that sucks now is eating doughnuts outside my house (unless they are from a gourmet shop) taste like absolute garbage. Especially when I can have mine warm and freshly rolled in cinnamon-sugar.

I am making some strawberry-and-brandy-cheesecake frozen yogurt as we speak. Which reminds me.. I need to get up and churn the mixture because I don't have an icecream maker.
