I know that not only rotund, fat or bulbous Pokemon have good HP cause others have high health too like Slaking, Tyranitar or Gogoat. But why do so many of the high-HP Pokemon follow the bulbous-or-rotund pattern? Like Drifblim, Jellicent, Wigglytuff, Blissey have huge HP and they are so bulbous and roundish. It's so common that it can't be done just by pure coincidence. GF has something in mind. What makes them think that a balloon like drifblim can take more hits than a muscular Conkeldurr? It seems that bulky, rotund and fat Pokemon have high HP all the time. Wobbuffet is pretty round too. Like, especially drifblim and jellicent and wigglytuff they are based on balloons and stuff and they have high HP. Why do rotund and bloated creatures have high HP?

Seems simple - HP represents body fat. xD

They might be things that are seen as gigantic balloons, and some of them being lazy might just be seen as the tired kind who won't fight often and as they're slow, they take hits better since some don't move often.

I highly doubt that this is the reason- but simple physics works toward it; the round shapes would help deflect most of the force from impacts, rather than take the full brunt of the force.

I think we all kinda need to keep in mind that it isnt western culture that is dictating this, it is japanese culture. And from what i have observed, the japanese culture does have sumo's. Thier larger bodys do in some ways endure more than a skinnier body would. This may be where the "large and durable" idea is coming from.
