Does resilience come with HP or defenses? Realistically speaking, Pokemon with huge defenses and high HP would clearly be the toughest ones but between choosing defense and vitality what's more important? Also, is inner or outer defense better? Inner defense is sturdy bones and tough skin while outer defense is shells and armor. For example a Pokemon with good inner defense is Miltank which has high defense but no shell thus its her bones and skin that are tough. Cloyster has good outer defense due to his shell since his body is soft inside.
So, which one of these categories of Pokemon would be more physically resilient* in real life?

*physically resilient means to be able to bounce back from damage/injury and recover.

1. Pokemon with low HP but high inner defense.
2. Pokemon with low HP but high outer defense.
3. Pokemon with high HP but low defense.

This is one of those questions with no defined answer - some people might think that those with high HP but not as great Defense stats, like Wobbuffet, are the more resilient, but when you come to stuff like Dusknoir and Deoxys-D which have low HP but high Defense stats, those might appear more resilient. But now that we have Mega Evolutions that can really throw a punch, with the low HP it might not feel like much Defense. But some might like the greater Defense to their advantage even without the HP to back it up. Although back in Generation III, Blissey was one of the biggest walls ever given its massive HP and Sp Def, despite its paper-thin Defense (you still needed a very strong physical attacker to handle it properly).

Yuh I think HP is better because Defense-based monsters can have their armor cracked and then they dont have enough health to rely on while health based monsters are durable no matter what. It's like, a Pokemon with high defense can take hit after hit but as soon as its armor fails or it is hit on a vital spot it is pretty much dead while a high HP Pokemon relies on its pure endurance and toughness to survive hits. So both are good but the ones with higher HP are actually tougher.
