Howdy.
I'm Dustin. I'm 22, male, gay, obsessed with the color pink and love Fairy type Pokemon. I just recently got into collecting the TCG and now work in a card shop/nerd store where I have access to a LOT of them. My favorite card illustrator is Kanako Eo and I'm trying to collect every card she has illustrated, as well as every full art Supporter card ever made/that will be made.

I am a hairstylist in a salon in Scottsdale, Arizona and I love it. My career passion is hair, and my hobby passion is being satisfied with the part timing at the card store. My favorite thing to do at the salon is color and styling. Having someone come in with six different colors and only want one of them is my favorite kind of challenge and really lets me explore my creativity and knowledge.

If you wanna ask me about anything just pop a question here!

JAKE

Favorite TCG card?
My favorite TCG card I actually own! It's the Gym Challenge's Misty's Gyarados!
Spoiler:

Favorite musician?
Gawrsh this is tough. I actually don't really follow any one musician. I'm more of a "listen to a single song 4893y5983475 times until I'm bores with it" guy. If anyone I would say P!nk. She's an inspiration for sure. Her whole "be who you are and Imma be me" motto for life is something I try my everything to live and breathe by.

Seriously. I'm awful at styling hair. Halp. I try different stuff and it always turns out blagh. Gives tips!
Please keep in mind that this is a very difficult thing to do without me being able to actually touch and feel your hair. However!, I can help you get to know your hair better, in order to help guide you into being able to style your hair to your liking a little easier!

This first step is to know the texture and density levels of your hair. Texture means the actual thickness and behavior of the individual strand, while density is the AMOUNT of hair you have on your head. There are three levels of each.

Texture

Fine - Fine hair means that if you take the strand in your hair, is it very soft, delicate, and almost brittle? This is the texture that is rather allergic (for lack of better word) to intense moisture. Fine hair is very light, meaning that people with it tend to have a natural low amount of volume and body in their hair. In order to avoid this, a shampoo and conditioner that merely hydrate (a much lesser moisturizing) can help the hair get a little more bump at the roots. Another thing that can help is skipping conditioner every other washing of the hair. Conditioner is always good for anyone, but not always the best every time.

Medium - Medium texture hair is more-so your "perfect ratio" type of hair. it is extremely versatile, obedient, has a great balance of moisture, and just all around styles very well. This is a little thicker than fine hair, but not so thick that it feels rough in your fingertips. This hair type is rather easy to maintain. I myself have medium texture hair. A great regimen for medium hair is washing every other day and using a light moisture shampoo and conditioner.

Coarse - Coarse hair tends to feel rather rough in your fingertips, and has a tendency to get rather frizzy pretty quickly. It's extremely stubborn and very hard to style without the proper tools, often needing high-heat styling tools such as flat irons and curling irons. A great way to help maintain the stubbornness is extremely moisturizing and smoothing shampoos and conditioners. Leave-in conditioners and oils after a shower are also recommended.

Density

Thin, Medium, Thick
These are rather easy to get. Thin hair is not having a lot of it, medium is a decent amount, and thick is a large amount. Thin hair tends to have finer strands (but not always!) and has almost no volume. These are the people that don't have to sit in a salon chair for very long. Medium is just as versatile as medium texture is. Thick density comes with all hair types, and generally needs a decent amount of texturizing (also called thinning) to help control the hair's shape.

As always, professional grade products are always recommended. These are the products you can't get at a cheap barber shop/"Supercuts" type of place, nor at a grocery store/supermarket. Believe it or not products sold in any of these places actually have was as a main ingredient. Hair product companies are able to sell to these places for such a low value because the wax acts as a filler for lack of product, meaning they can fill the bottle a quarter of the way with the actual product, and the rest be equivalent to dish soap. Professional grade products are the products you'd see and a higher end salon, and though they may be a bit more expensive, they are always worth it you get what you paid for, basically. I prefer Davines or Eufora products. They're both some of the most natural products in the industry, and are both sold all over the world.

...I hope that helps a little! ;A;

I've seen you poking in and out from time to time on this site: do you ever foresee yourself coming back onto staff if given the chance?

Hard to say, really. The sections I used to mod I no longer play not care about lel.
It kinda rests on hstaff's shoulders as to whether or not they want me back, and which section if be good for. Right now I'm not exactly active in anything other than small activity in the TCG section, and Don has that pretty much WELL covered. So it's whatever, but I'm not exactly looking to get back nor am I openly rejecting the offer lol.

Did you always want to be a hair styler? If so, what sparked for your passion for it? If not, what did you want to do before that and what made you change your mind?

I actually realized I wanted to do hair after a really awesome haircut when I was about 15. Well, at the time I thought it was awesome. Now, I'm just like "whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy". After that I just wanted everyone to feel awesome in the way I felt, so I became a hairstylist!

I actually wanted to be a librarian or a history teacher, but then I realized "no" and decided to let those go lol

I had always found it interesting, but honestly it was that Yugioh was waaaaay to expensive to do. Pokemon is a LOT cheaper and a lot easier to get my hands on. Plus I'll always be a little more loyal to Pokemon. Especially since they have an epic Mega Gardevoir card coming out the first week of February!

Kanako Eo's art is so precious! She's got all of these plus a few more in the Primal Clash set!

So many.

Mechanics, the cards themselves, the support type cards (trainers in Pokemon, Spell and Trap in Yugioh), the rewards for winning a battle between two cards, the winning conditions, etc etc.

Basically everything. Honestly, the Pokemon TCG is way easier. Like by about 24786327852359% easier.

omg you live in Arizona? :O SO DO I, but I live about like Apache Junction/Gold Canyon area. XD

Anyway, were you born and raised here? (Not sure if this has been asked of you). I wasn't actually born in Arizona, but I did move here when I was about 13 or 14.

But I'm actually from Louisiana, born and raised, and then moved to Scottsdale January 2012! I came out here for hair school and just love it!

Why did you decide against being a History teacher or a librarian? What made you realise they weren't jobs for you?

If you weren't hair stylist, what profession could you see yourself in instead?

You say you collect the TCG, do you actually play much?

Have either of your jobs given you any interesting stories?

Which is your all-time fave pink shiny Pokemon?

Best and worst things about hair styling?

Out of all the fairy types, which one is your favorite?

Do you believe some hair styles bring a certain charm to any of your customers?

1. The fact that I hate being paid to do nothing and the fact that I actually hate educating people on anything.

2. Honestly I'd probably go for full time manager at a comic bookstore/card shop or even something to do with video games.

3. Actually no. I play very rarely, online and IRL. I just love collecting the cards I like. <3

4. Yes. Good lord yes. Way too many to post here but I can say I'm never bored.

Fave pink shiny is definitely Crobat. <3

Best thing is actually doing hair. Its so fun and creative to play around with! Worst part is usually the person I'm creating on haha. I'm more of your creative type of stylist, not an everyday-stylist.

Gardevoir hands down. <3

I'm not sure if you mean my own or my guests', but the most popular for a women's cut is always a type of bob. Be it graduated, texturized, long, short, blunt, asymmetrical, etc etc, the bob is definitely the most common and most requested.

Hi Jelli!

Just some curious questions ♥

- From the details given in your post, has anyone ever told you that you're a stereotype for homosexual men? How have you reacted to such comments, if applicable?
- Do you personally believe homosexuality is a choice or were you born homosexual?
- Did you always know you were homosexual? Have you told your family, etc. and how have they reacted if so (hopefully they were very accepting!)?
- Were you open about your sexuality during adolescence? Did this affect your educational experience?

If the questions are too personal, then you don't have to answer :pink_nod: No judgment from me!

1. Oh shyeas. Yea. I've shut them down completely. Spill the T all over their laps and let them feel the burn. I don't take lightly to it whatsoever.

2. Born, but lemme extend on this by saying I did have a choice on whether or not I chose to date someone of the same gender. Choosing to date someone is like picking an apple at the store, falling in love is light mother nature slapping you in the face with a lightning bolt. BEING something, like being gay an etc, is something that isn't a choice. DOING something, like dating a man or woman, is always a choice.

3. Of course not. I didn't even know what it was until I was 12. I can't even say "Looking back __________", because that doesn't mean muk. Playing with dolls doesn't make someone gay wearing high heels doesn't make a man gay, etc etc. There's no telling until it literally one day just hits you "Hey, I'm gay."
My family was boss as hell with it. 10/10 OGs. No seriously, they didn't care. It took them a moment to process but nothing has ever been wrong with it.

4. Only during the last day of freshman year of high school did I finally reveal I was gay, and honestly I had such a large support group in my friends nothing ever bothered me.

Me being gay has had no influence other than who I am sexually attracted to. I'm dating a guy and have been for six months now, and nothing in our life is different from any of our straight friends.

How are things with your boyfriend, Dustin?

If you could go on a date with a celebrity of your choice who would it be?

Are there any fairy Pokemon that you aren't a huge fan of?

Other than pink, what is your favorite color?

Fantastic, thanks! We hit our sixth month? Something like that. He gets cuter and sweeter each passing day. We've openly admitted that we have uber strong feelings for each other, so that's always an excellent sign. :3
We constantly duel, text, message, battle Pokemon, watch shows, and eat out whenever we're together. We don't get to do that much because of how busy he is, but it just makes us cherish and enjoy the time we get even more. <3

"If you could go on a date with a celebrity of your choice who would it be?"

Ellen Degeneres OR Amy Schumer. They'd just both be so fun and funny and they're both amazing women. Funny, smart, kind, and chill af. Those are my requirements for anyone. It'd def be a play date lol

"Are there any fairy Pokemon that you aren't a huge fan of?"

Ya know, it's gotta be Mime Jr. Like I don't get him as a Pokemon. Evolves almost immediately, brings nothing to a team, and honestly I don't find Mr. Mime creepy at all. I think he's adorable. He's got fat,r ound cheeks with cute lil' red dots on them. <3 What's not to like? His sprite? You mean him dancing to distract you from the fact that he's setting up a barrier around your sorry ass without trying to make you worry about why he's doing it while he fights off the evil with his magic fairy powers so you can be safe from harm? Eff the Mr. Mime haters. He's an OG.

"Other than pink, what is your favorite color?"

Ya know I'd have to say yellow or light, light blue. Both are so happy and cute! They both remind me of spring and summer, and while winter is my favorite season, spring and summer seem to make me the most happy!
