There are some counters to certain Pokèmon you wouldn't expect in a million years, right? Well, what if I told you Avalugg is a great M-Aerodactyl counter.
SAY WHAT?
Yup. As some of you may know, two of the only Flying-type moves that are boosted by tough claws are sky drop and Aerial Ace, although Sky Drop is more common. I found out while battling earlier that Avalugg is too heavy to be affected by the move, walling one of M-Aerodactyl's best attacks. Not only that, but after just one Curse, Stone Edge didn't even leave a dent despite Avalugg's rock weakness. Dope!
N.B I had no clue of the Aerodactyl's EVs so maybe its attack stat wasn't as high as it could be, but even so. I assume that it had Earthquake, Fire Fang or Knock Off for coverage, but only two of those are tough claws-boosted and none have STAB, so they'd probably do even less damage.
(Of course, every Pokèmon is unique so Avalugg may not be a good counter for ALL M-Aerodactyls).

What's the most unlikely counter you've ever found?

stone edge is m-aero's best option, but it's still a 3hko vs 248 HP / 252 Def+ avalugg (not factoring sr). fire fang does more than aerial ace cos tough claws + super effective damage.

But Stone Edge doesn't get the Tough Claws boost, right? I dunno, I don't really use any Pokèmon with this ability.

aerial ace: 60 x 33% = 79.8 bp (not factoring stab)
stone edge: 100 bp (not factoring stab)

stone edge is super effective too.

Except most Avalugg seen in PU run a specially defensive set, which is cleanly 2HKOed by Stone Edge.

Golurk and Nidoqueen are both great counters to Terrakion.

Remember that this is a thread for unusual counters and therefore by definition are things out of the ordinary so the sets don't need to follow conventions or be the standard sets those mons use.

Also I assume you mean Scarf Nidoqueen, as fully defensive Nidoqueen cannot counter Terrakion unless it switches in on something like Choiced Close Combat, but then who is going to stay in to let you kill it?
only problem:

252 Atk Choice Band Terrakion Close Combat vs. 248 HP / 240+ Def Nidoqueen: 116-137 (30.2 - 35.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Black Sludge recovery

and the same thing can be said about the m-aero and avalugg thingy.
