;;Cracks fingers;;

I am the queen of being ridiculously anal about everything. There are so many habits on many forums that have bothered me for years, and though I tolerate them and have calmed down over time, I doubt I will ever stop being highly annoyed by them. Most of these won't be specific to this particular forum. They just kind of happen everywhere. Certain ones can be the cause of me skipping/skimming posts lightly.

- Ridiculous format as others have said. Excessive usage of colored fonts and inappropriate fonts that are illegible. In general, I just don't have a lot of patience for ugly-looking text due to the fact that I find it VERY difficult to get through. Understanding words that I've read is something I have trouble with in general, particularly if it's long walls of text. So I tend to be very sensitive to formatting.

- Spelling and grammar that is mostly incorrect. This includes people who write in all lower case. A lot of people especially display the latter habit and it drives me crazy. It is something I truly do not understand. It makes me even crazier if the person in question is spelling everything correctly and has correct grammar all the way EXCEPT for a wanton refusal to capitalize anything.

My reaction to that is that this person clearly knows how to type properly, but refuses because they want to have some stylistic quirk in their speech that makes them look like they don't care about anything. So they can be "cool" or blend in with everyone else or be a hipster or something. Maybe they just like the way it looks. I really don't know, that's just my assumption. It makes your post look like this undefinable blob to me, and reduces readability by a lot. Capital letters exist so that our eyes can know where to stop and rest to the next sentence or to Emphasize An Important Concept. Without them, letters just flow together endlessly. I refer to this particular habit as "Tumblr Speak" because this trait is very common to that site. It also encompasses unnecessary all-caps. "SDJOEIJROIEJRIE i can't even" is a good example of it. Let me emphasize something in a failed attempt to prevent ruffling feathers because I know this will: I don't hate you if you do it. I just find it really annoying and illogical. And nothing anyone says will change that, even if they quote and refute me. Such is the nature of certain opinions.

It would be nice if forums had an option to correct people's grammar. That way, the people who want to type like that can keep doing it, and I won't have to see it. Everyone wins. Although I'm honestly not sure how that would work.

I want to make this clear as well: I don't care so much about typos or grammar issues if they're minor. It is rather rude and pedantic to correct something that is largely irrelevant or doesn't impact the understanding of the text. Only if it's consistent does it irritate me. The things I mind are moreso things that decrease my ability to understand what is being said. I really really hate being confused and want to make sure communication is as clear and smooth as possible. If things are made more difficult for me to read and more illegible, that is what annoys me.

- The slow loading times on this particular forum. Although I automatically copypaste most of my posts before posting them out of years of paranoia, it still ends up with me losing certain ones sometimes and causes annoying issues. Especially that thing that happens frequently where you accidentally double post or your text gets repeated within a post twice.

- Forum default emoticons. Most of them look weird and ugly.

- Whenever people quote and refute me. Yes, I know that this is the internet and no opinion is safe. But it can be very mean spirited a lot of the time, rather than constructive. People just tend to get really riled up in general on the internet and forget to be civil. Due to this, I tend not to even look at quotes that I believe might have a tinge of hostility.

- Extremely lengthy posts that don't have paragraphs. Like the uncapitalization complaint above, this is a legibility concern. And I will definitely skip posts like these because my eyes just can't handle it. I seriously have a lot of trouble retaining whatever I read from these posts.

- Elitism within a clique of older members, forums that don't welcome newcomers or new ideas. I don't like places that are just so unclosed and unfriendly like that. Places where I just feel like I can't contribute because I'm new and nobody cares. The older members are so elitist and look down on me. This forum doesn't have that too extremely and I can't judge accurately anyway because I'm infrequent, but there are others where I've suffered that extensively. I mostly leave those.

- When threads get strangely off-topic and people start blathering on incoherently and being really sarcastic and jokey about everything rather than sincerely addressing the thread's topic. This seems to happen a lot and I just don't "get" it. I'm not sure how to explain it either and I'd rather not give examples. It's just... not funny to me. I guess it's because I'm a pretty serious person with a particular sense of humor. In general, sarcastic and snarky humor isn't something I'm into even though it appears to be popular on the internet. Which is strange because I find the internet to be the worst medium for it due to the lack of inflection. Maybe I'm just some weirdo or something, because it really does feel like I'm the only person on the whole internet who isn't amused by this. I find it annoying mainly for the fact that I feel awkward about jumping into such threads and giving a serious answer whilst people are fooling around.

Not a 'pet peeve', but I kinda dislike having to log in every time I want to move, delete or merge posts. I dunno, it becomes kind of a pain after a while. x:

so what you're saying is you hate me.

i think the only pet peeve i have is when people intentionally and blatantly say or do things to offend others, in hopes that an argument will start.
though.. that can apply to things outside of the forums too.

Any thread related to PC in this forum will psyducking blow up.
I swear.
It's so annoying.
Like, it's great. We all have so much to share with each other about ourselves.
But we decide to focus all our effort on sharing our favorite forum style.
Or sharing our position on visitor messages.
Or specifically sharing our forum pet peeves.

PC forum pet peeves? Hmmmmm
  • Long threads making one post double itself.
  • Colored font, in a non-standard font type.
  • People who either can't take a joke, or can't post anything that's not a joke.
  • Poor grammar.
  • Any sort of improper use of the english language; really.
  • Battling and Team Building being so ridden with aggressive singles format smogon players, any disagreeal with their conception of competitive play gets you ostracized by an entire faction of the forum.
  • People who don't read posts that they respond to or quote. (C'mon.)
  • Logging out and changing profiles will for some reason change themes for me, setting it to one I'm not familiar with.
  • Using the site on mobile will sometimes cause users avatars to appear as CSS buttons above text boxes for posts. (kinda funny sometimes though.)
  • JERKS.
  • Lol; but seriously, people who can't just be nice to random people on the internet. I have a feeling you're only this rude because it's not a face to face encounter - but if you really are that much of an ass in person - Arceus help you.

I finally thought of the one thing that bugs me the most.

It's a problem I see mostly here, and it's that some people have to shove their proficiency of the english language down your throat. There's always one or two people like this everywhere you go, but for some reason, there seems to be a much higher number of them here. Like, each and every one of their posts is full of the longest possible words they can think of, and they'll gladly take any opportunity they can to remind everyone that they're the greatest user of english the world has ever seen.

I'm exaggerating, of course, but it comes off as really pretentious to me. We get it, you know a lot of really big words, now stop trying so hard.

Dat irony

Users that go out of their way to show you how intellectually superior and how much more mature they are than the rest of the world are not only nowhere near as intelligent as they think and honestly very immature, but are also almost as annoying as double posts.

I hate when long threads make you doublepost all the time.

I hate iiiiittttt.
Ah, looks like you beat me to it. xD

But to add to that, I also hate it when short threads make you double post if your internet happens to be lagging at the time. <_<

I don't like bad grammar :pink_no: I also can't stand avatars that are obviously resized larger images that aren't cropped in a way that makes it look like a decent avatar. I'm super picky that way lol

The weird stat signatures are odd, too. The usage of the term "bae" is befuddling, especially because it means "poop" in some European language. All you people calling your sweetiepeas "poop", for shame! :pink_tongue:
