So, i've seen some games that have been created from anime shows. For example, Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment.
I want to know:
-What do you think of these kinds of games?
-Do you want to buy these kinds of games?
-If you already bought one, what's your opinion about it?

Personally, I like to see the recreation of the anime into a game, but I feel as if they won't incorporate every little detail, which will make it seem like just an average game, not the special anime you know and love.

When it comes to games created from anime, one thing I know about them is that a lot of them were never released outside of Japan. For example, video games based on Evangelion. So I don't know if they are good or not.

It's normally the other way around - the game comes first, then gets an anime adaptation - and for those that aren't, they rarely get released outside of Japan...which is unfortunate, because I would LOVE to play some of them. The Nisekoi and Rozen Maiden Vita games spring to mind as games I'd love to play but never will, unless I import and suffer due to the fact that I can't read Japanese. I'm sorely tempted to pick up one of the Precure DS games, though. Sure, there are plenty of Naruto, Bleach and One Piece games floating around, but I haven't been able to get into any of those series.

I've played, to my memory, four games that came from anime - Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 and Gundam Reborn on PS3, Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment on Vita, and Astro Boy: Omega Factor on GBA. The DW games are actually what got me into Gundam, and I am sorely tempted to try the One Piece Warriors games to see if I can get into the series that way. I bought Hollow Fragment because I enjoyed the first arc of SAO, and it was ignoring the crappy second half. The game turned out to be the worst purchase I've made since Final Fantasy XIII; the translation was diabolical and the localization shoddy. The gameplay promised to be spectacular...but everything else got in the way. Omega Factor was one of my favourite GBA games, though!

There's actually a bunch of good Dragon Ball Z games. The new one is actually excellent from impressions it seems, as well.

I'm buying it because they got TeamFourStar's voice actor to use his Nappa voice as one of the character creation voices. Soon TFS will become the DBZ canon

Most Anime based games tend to go onto PSP/Vita or PS3/4 none of which I have so can't play.
Also most never make it out of Japan.
I might pick up a vita sometime so I can play SAO Hallow Fragment and the Girls Und panzer game.

Typically, I stray away from game adaptation/spin-off of animes since most of the time they're probably below-average games made by low-key developers. There are a few exceptions though, like Spino mentioned, some of the Dragon Ball Z games are great and have a good amount of effort and love put into them.

Tales of Keroro is one of the best "Tales" spin-off I've played, haha. So, that's not to say that I'll look pass them with a blind eye now.

Just being curious, are you counting VN as games? If you aren't, I'm sure that the ratio between anime-to-game and game-to-anime is more skewed to the former. Even with counting VNs, anime-to-game would still probably be prevalent. It's surprising on the amount of anime made to games; like Terraformers, Yuki Yuna, OreGairu, OreImo, Shakugan no Shana, Fullmetal Alchemist, Code Geass, Eureka Seven, and the list goes on. With game-to-anime adaptations, it's a lot less common - from the top of my head, I can list Shining Tears x Wind, Shining Hearts, Sands of Destruction, Valkyria Chronicles, Disgaea, Tales of the Abyss, and etc. (notice how four of the anime I've listed were published and owned by Sega). But beyond that, it's easier to list anime-to-games than games-to-anime.

As I recall, the only game like that that I've personally run into was one of the FMA games (I don't remember which one, it was years ago). I treat these games like I would treat any kind of series adaptation into a game - with suspicion, because my experience has shown that usually such things are not all that great.

No doubt there are games out there that would prove me wrong, but it does seem like the biggest hook of these games is just "oh look it's based on your favorite series!!!" ....yeah I'll pass, thanks.

I agree with others, many games from anime are Japan-only which is not nice...
As avid player of Japanese games and even bigger anime watcher, I would love to play more anime related games, I finished Hollow Fragment and liked the alternate story.
It's always good to see storyline from a different perspective.

There are more games that are adapted into anime, though =D

Ah. Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Naruto, other. They all see a regular flood of games. Some suck, some don't. Gundam games tend to only be released in Japan, which is unfortunate. I wanted the first Gundam game for the PS3 to do so well and it didn't (forget the name). The concept was great and the idea sound but the lag of the controls made the game unplayable and I didn't enjoy it at all. So it's all down to who develops and makes the games.

There are a lot more games adapted into an anime than anime adapted into games. And most of them never made it outside Japan.

Personally, I haven't played anything that was adapted from an anime (well they're mostly Japan only anyway) since they're mostly out for the PSP/PSVita and the PS3/4, none of which I own sadly. Not like I own any consoles aside from a PS, a PS2, 3 DSL(s) ('cause apparently my parents are willing to buy more DSL(s) than getting us a Wii) and a 3DS.

Too bad, I really want to check out SAO: Hollow Fragment,

I've played plenty of Yu-Gi-Oh! and Digimon games, which are all pretty great, though YGO games are generally obsolete due to the fact that YGOPro is a thing. (lol)

As for Beyblade games, ehh... xD

I'm surprised no one said anything about the Ghost in the Shell game that's in the works.

I don't think I've played any anime based games recently. I do have a Vita but I only have Persona 4 Golden at the moment. But at some point I'd like to try the SAO game just out of curiosity

I played Yugioh, it's was alright until the popularity of YGOPro or Devpro conquer console gaming because it contains new cards thus Bandai doesn't produce anymore yugioh till date and I played Digimon from Ps1 to DS. Digimon storywise to breed-and-battle. Original digimon are always fun till Digimon World Championship that ain't special wise. Raise -> to Mega -> Egg and rinse and repeat the steps

A couple of people mentioned YGOPRO and I had to look it up. It's cool, but that sucks for the older games because they're sort of redundant now. Still, I really liked playing the GBA and DS YGO games. The Dragon Ball Z adaptations were mostly really good (especially Budokai). I played a Beyblade game on the GameCube and it was decent. The Zatch Bell! game on GameCube was pretty bad, though. Anime-to-game adaptations are generally hit-or-miss, like movie adaptations but less so.

I haven't played any in a while though. Any really good recommendations?

Digimon doesn't count, the digimon games predate the anime, therefore they can't be called anime tie-in games.

While that would technically be true for most Digimon games, you have to consider the fact that certain games such as Digimon Rumble Arena, Digimon Racing, and Digimon Story: Super Xros Wars are explicitly based on the anime. In Digimon's case, I wouldn't call it an "all or nothing" scenario.

Yes but there's also say Pokémon Puzzle League which has Ash in it and pokémon isn't an anime tie-in.
So under that same logic Pokémon games would kind of count as anime based games, which they obviously aren't.

To notr stray off-topic too much: I played the Bakugan game on the DS and it was pretty fun.

Well, like I said, it isn't necessarily "all or nothing," as it mostly depends on the game itself. That being said, the majority of most Pokémon and Digimon games are original, but that doesn't eliminate the few existing tie-in games from being tie-ins. That also means that having one or two anime tie-in games wouldn't automatically make the rest of the games tie-ins, either. Consider them independent to each other.
