We have El Heroe's thread on Coffee, so lets have a thread about tea.

Are you a frequent drinker of tea?

How do you take you tea?, A Haphazardly placed teabag in a mug and the water straight from the kettle, or maybe your more civilized drinking out of a cup and saucer with tealeaves in the teapot, or do you have a whole Japanese tea ceremony?

Are you particular about the tea brand or mix you drink?

What do you think about the environmental impacts and ethics of drinking tea (or coffee). With most tea (or coffee) being grown in poorer parts of the world such as Africa, India or South America. Is Deforestation to make way for plantations devastating to the worlds eco systems? Are growers and plantation workers exploited, with tea and coffee being major cash crops?

So go and pour yourself that tea and answer the questions, oh and do try not to slurp!

I honestly wish I could like tea. I've been experimenting with it on and off but I haven't been able to find a brand or flavor that I like just yet. If anyone has any recommendations please, help a brother out!

Not really. I mean... well, if you count Arizona Iced Tea as tea then... maybe? I've never been much of a tea drinker. The only tea I drink if anything is iced tea that my mom makes on very VERY rare occasions. Though, does that really count as authentic tea?

Also, I have NO psyducking idea how to answer that longer paragraph... =.=

i'm actually brewing some right now haha. i don't care for ice tea despite being from the south (apparently we're supposed to live off of sweet tea and apple pie). however, i do love hot tea. for now i drink pre-bagged tea but i'm sure when i get older i'll experiment with tea leaves. i'm running out or tea but currently i have: lemon jasmine, rooibos red tea, apple green tea, ginger tea and green tea with peppermint/spearmint (my favorite).

i'm pretty brain dead rn so i'll just simply answer the questions without expanding on them too much. yes and i haven't heard much about the tea leaf farmers but i have heard about cocoa bean farmers.. using that same mindset i'd say i wouldn't put it past these big businesses, it's quite sad.

The only time I drink tea is when it is Arizona brand's Ice Tea + Lemonade. Preferably that Arnold Palmer Pink Lemonade + Ice Tea! Other than that, I don't like the whole tea bag and hot water type of tea and find most iced teas and things of that nature that stores/restaraunts have to be way too extremely bitter. I do like Raspberry Iced Tea though! It's delicious.

I'm not a fan of tea, though there are undoubtedly a lot of flavored teas I haven't tried and ought to taste at some point. I really only drink it when I go to Chinese restaurants and green tea is served with my meal, and even then, I don't like it that much. If I'm going to go for a hot beverage, I'll either go with coffee (mainly for the caffeine) or hot chocolate (if it's a cold day and I want something sweet and warm).

Tea so sweet you could get diabetes.

But I wouldn't mind having something a little more sophisticated. I think it was the last thread of this that someone suggested a really complicated tea drink from starbucks with like raspberry and stuff.

Edit: I just found it, 260 days ago. "Sweetened trenta passion tea lemonade with raspberry and be sure to ask for all 7 pumps". I still have yet to try this.

Not once have I ever considered the ethics of my tea, so I'll conveniently skip that part.

I make my tea in the method of let's fill a mug -> put in a teabag -> microwave for 2 minutes unless it happens to be a really cold day in which case maybe I'll do 3 minutes.

I'm not picky about how my tea is prepared, honestly.

And then I'll add some sugar, say maybe two teaspoons or so, and for some certain teas I might add a bit of creamer if the flavor would suit it. I know whenever I make chai I like adding creamer, I've gotten some decent combos using like cinnamon flavors, peppermint, french vanilla...

What's funny is that I never drank much tea before the past few years, apparently I was too much of an idiot beforehand to realize that I could just add sugar ("it's too bland I'm just going to have soda"). When I was growing up the only kind of tea I would drink would be that Lipton's instant iced tea mix that's like mostly sugar and lemon, which I wouldn't be able to drink now because holy crap sugar bomb gross.

I don't really care about brands, I just care about flavors. Chai, chamomile, green tea (I actually like to make iced tea out of that during the summer)....those are my favorites. Although I guess the chamomile is more for if I absolutely need to calm myself. I've had some nice raspberry teas too. Oh, and then there's rooibos, but oh man I haven't had that kind in a while.

Actually, thinking of iced tea, I always have a weakness for peach iced tea...which I can't seem to find much of around here, that's actually one thing I miss about not being down south anymore. I did get a peach tea from a restaurant the other week but oh my god so much flavoring and sugar it was like drinking candy. Not the kind of tea I'm looking for!

As far as teabags go I'm yet to find any that equal twinings.

English Breakfast or Irish Breakfast - hot, black and with buckets of sugar is my preferred choice. There are some other kinds of tea I quite like as well, although I generally prefer to stay away from herbal stuff some is okay though.

Tea>Coffee any day. Although I don't drink much tea at the moment because
a)Australian summer
b)I like it with a lot of sugar and I am also a fan of keeping my teeth in tact.

Also I don't care who you are or where you are from the order you make my tea in better be

Step 1) Teabag in mug
Step 2) Sugar in mug
Step 3) Boiling water in mug
Step 4) Stir and you better stir

How the hell can you microwave tea... bleh.

leave a teabag in boiling water for 10 minutes and tell me it has no taste. it'll be so strong and bitter that you won't be able to drink it.

So the options are tasteless or bitter? I love the English so much but I'll never fully understand them

Let me put it this way, if I fell and cut myself, sweet tea would come out. It's my thing. I'm also a fan of earl grey, mint, and lemon tea. (Especially when I'm sick)

I love tea!!! I love to collect all kinds of tea items and I am always on the hunt for different teas!!

How I make tea just depends on what mood I'm in. If I'm in a rush I will shamelessly microwave a mug with water for 2 minutes and plop a tea bag in. Otherwise I'll put a kettle on the stove. When I'm in the mood for my loose leaf teas I put a kettle on the stove, measure out my tea into my teapot, and when the water is ready properly steep my tea. My friend's family ended up getting me a cast iron teapot and really nice loose leaf teas for Christmas so I've been enjoying them :)
Sometimes I don't want a whole pot of loose leaf though so I just use my infuser.

I try to buy teas that are organic and have biodegradable packages that also don't put toxins into the tea when warmed up. But due to price I don't always have the luxury to avoid this. I tend to only buy Bigelow when it comes to cheaper teas because I like their flavors the most. I was buying Twinning for awhile, but I realized I like the other brand a lot better.

I recently went on a little tea shopping spree and I bought a couple organic teas from different parts of the world I haven't tried. Cost me about $20 for 4 different boxes which hurt me a little.

I don't understand how people can microwave their tea because to me it just tastes so awful I can't handle it. I drink a lot of herbal and flower teas ^^
I know in my case, it's mostly a matter of "doesn't know any better" because it's pretty much the only way I've ever made tea for myself. I'm sure there are better ways to make tea, but that one definitely works for me and is fast and easy (and I'm impatient).

Here's the magic part; if you leave it for 3-5 mintues instead of 10 then it won't be tasteless or bitter, but it'll be somewhere in between and then it's edible.

I'll never fully understand the Australians, can't even make a cup of tea without specific instruction, madness!

I have tea every now and then, mostly of the black variety; I don't drink much besides Earl Grey, English Breakfast (or Irish Breakfast), and Chai. Generally I just go teabag + kettle (Stash and Trader Joe's are the brand I'll pick up most often), but we do have a tea strainer and a little teapot so I'll sometimes go for loose leaf tea, I just usually can't be bothered. And I'm not too picky about how I have it: black, just milk, just sugar, milk AND sugar... doesn't really matter. Although sometimes I'm more in the mood for one or the other.

As for the environmental and ethical impacts you mentioned--that's a problem that seems to come with a lot of the food and goods we have now, and it's crap and I wish things were different but I don't have a solution.

Do you have a Teavana or local tea store in your area? You could check them out, if you tell them what you prefer such as maybe something sweet they'd probably be able to recommend you stuff. Teavana lets you have samples too. Idk what your taste in tea is though. :p

Chamomile is my favorite tea. I love it with honey.
Mint is really good too especially when you're sick or having breathing problems. I had a mint plant that quickly grew everywhere in my backyard so we got to have fresh mint tea daily.

I drink tea all day. I found a brand I really like (Gold Peak) and it's as close to the best I can get for the price. :) I buy like four jugs at a time cause they often sell out at the grocery store. And it's way cheaper than running to a fast-food place to buy a cup.

Moroccan tea is love. Moroccan tea is life.

Back when I was about 5/6, our family went to Syria for a week. These guys have walking tea men (literally guys with giant golden kettles on their backs) which sell tea. Their kettles make music when they walk and they play around with the cups before serving them to you. They'd even sing while walking sometimes. Ah, I miss those days.

I'm such a huge fan of Teavana. My boyfriend and I really got into it last year when they had a bunch of their seasonal flavors on sale so we bought an infuser and a bonus package of flavors - I think it was spiced apple, white chocolate, chai, and peppermint? iirc lol.

I haven't had any Teavana flavors since then (aside from samples) but I sooo badly want to go on a little shopping spree from there, like no joke if you haven't had Teavana before it will change your entire concept of tea. But damn those are some expensive leaves and herbs :(

I love black tea, Chai, Oolong...

I'm not a big fan of green tea and white tea (because if you forget to remove your tea from the teapot... errh...)

I buy mostly of my teas at David's tea.
