FIRST OF ALL: Apologies if a thread already exists for this.

So anyway, what are your thoughts to a Pokémon RPG ever appearing on PC? Not a main game introducing a new generation like the handheld's do, but more a side rpg like Pokémon XD or something.

Why?

Nintendo have already discounted making anything like Mario for iOS or whatever, but Game Freak have developed a few titles for non-Nintendo systems, and they are an independent developer.

It would be a good idea for Game Freak, as it would allow them to reach a much wider audience than sticking rigidly to the 3DS. Don't forget, a lot of people have computers running Windows. If it were to be launched through STeam, no physical copies would have to be made, saving money.

What would the game be like?

Anything really, from an awesome looking 3D battling game, to a more indepth RPG. With the extra processing power of even mid-range computers, the game world could be expanded to the kind of size seen more in the anime, with more intermediary towns and bigger cities. Imagine what Sinnoh's Jubilife City would look like in full 3D polygonal glory, or how cool Snowpoint City would look.

Yes it would take a large amount of time doing high-detailed models and stuff, but it would simply be awesome.

And yes, this whole thread came about because I have a PC I use for gaming, but my parents won't let me get a 3DS.

Well you can play any pokemon game on an emulator up to gen 6 but you probably already knew that.

I think this is a really cool idea but as for windows... Windows is made by Microsoft who are rivals with Nintendo because of the Xbox. But steam and what you said about game freak being a independent developer might be an exception.

But all that aside I think the games would be the same as the 3ds games but if they put it into 1st person that would be AWESOME!

I don't think it could ever happen, considering Pokemon is considered a first-party Nintendo franchise.

And for that I am very grateful.

Pokemon has a higher chance to be released for Ubuntu than for Windows, if you know what I mean.

If Nintendo somehow no longer finds it justifiable to build consoles, I can see it going to smartphones and tablets, but not PCs. Pokémon is one of the simplest games on the market in terms of input, so it's suited to smartphones.

I agree with those who said it's unlikely. It's a key franchise of Nintendo and sells a lot, so to see it ever ported outside of a Nintendo console will probably never happen.

It's not something I see them making a full-fledged game on the PC for. But since we have those mini side-games like Trozei and Shuffle, those are things that could possibly get a side app. But not a full main series game. Those are what the handhelds will stick to.

Not a fan of the Monster MMORPG format mentioned above.

I don't feel any connection to the game, character development, goals, but maybe that's just a thing with most MMORPG's. Especially when battles have no animations and it's just watching health bars shift with a portray representation. That said, it's also very slow in pacing.

I would love to see Nintendo come up with an online (not PC) game that is more interactive while maintaining the character development and story of a true RPG in a way that one can create their own poke life, with milestones, some optional, and live player interaction.

I've never been a big player of MMOs, the only one that has really struck a cord with me is Runescape, which is rather interactive with well done animation.

I've played Pokémon Stadium 2 today to see how 3D Pokémon looks (I haven't ever played Pokémon 6th Gen) and it works fairly well. Much more immersive than sprites. Admittedly it's 15 years old, but I would like to see a fan game with full 3D worlds and models, even of only the first 493 'mon were used.

I maintain what I say, its a missed opportunity for Nintendo as a whole to reach a much wider audience.

Technically, we are already able to play Pokémon on our computer, as others have stated before me.

Even though this might be illegal, there are various emulators out there which let us play previously-released titles right from an operating system without any trouble at all, with a bit of help from ROMs. Personally, I've been keeping up with the gaming scene in this franchise with assistance of this method for a very long time.

Aside from that, there are also fan-made MMOs out there related to Pokémon, although not each and every one of them include actual Pokémon characters and whatnot (we could find many of them with a little search on Google). Officially, however, there aren't any out there, if I'm not mistaken, which is a little sad to see; hopefully, they will change this at some point in future.
I've long had a wishful headcanon that the main series Pokémon games (starting with Generation I) had been ported to PC and Macintosh, with the ports operating virtually identically to the Nintendo handheld versions but having user interface features specific to desktop computing platforms (such as native pop-up dialog boxes with pushbuttons, pull-down menus, and the like.)
Kind of like how Windows NT 3.1 through 4.0 were available for several different processor architectures/instruction sets (such as i386/486/Pentium, MIPS R4000, DEC Alpha AXP, and PReP PowerPC).

This is very unlikely to happen. And when I say very unlikely I mean 'impossible'.
