Okay, it's time for my favorite genre.

I've probably told people enough times how much I enjoy movies like District 9, but believe it or not, I'm not that big into Star Wars or Star Trek. I've never seen Star Trek, so that's why I'm not into that, but I've seen all of the Star Wars movies. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the movies, but I'm just a filthy casual. I'm not really into the heavy sci-fi side, but I can't get enough of the lighter stuff. You know, aliens living among humans, futuristic dystopias, stuff like that.

As far as writing, most of my ideas do fit into the sci-fi genre. I'm not sure why, but taking today's society and adding a twist or two just interests me. I like the idea of aliens, but only if they're friendly. The war side has just been done to death, and beyond. Not that an original twist still can't be imagined, but I'm doubtful.

What are your thoughts on sci-fi and some of the popular titles behind it?

I tend to lean toward the more fantastic sci-fi like Star Wars--I've seen the original trilogy more times than I care to admit

I've never seen Star Wars. :V Maybe one day when I do a Harrison Ford movie marathon. I grew up a Star Trek kid.

Science fiction isn't really a genre I search for books to read from. It just happens that a lot of books I find interesting are either "lite" sci-fi or they take a turn that way. Though my favorite author is well-known for his science fiction writings, so I read a lot of sci-fi that way.

Go track down the original trilogy--NOW! (watch the prequels if you want, but your mileage may vary on those)

I don't read a ton of science fiction, though I do enjoy the genre. Incidentally, a couple days ago I got a sci-fi/humour novel I've never heard of before because the cover just caught my attention, called Year Zero, and I am thoroughly enjoying it thus far.

I like the classics, such as We or Hitchhiker's Guide, but come to think of it, I generally like my sci-fi novels light and fun these days. Lately, most of my sci-fi has been by A. Lee Martinez (who I would totally recommend if the above description sounds appealing to you). I still love a serious, epic sci-fi story (Dad introduced me to Star Wars and Back to the Future at a young age), but I think I prefer it those to be in film form.

I tend to watch sci-fi in tv/film form more than novel form. I'm familiar with the Star Trek and Star Wars but I too am more a causal fan of those than hardcore. I'm not sure why, but sci-fi books just don't grab me like fantasy books. I can't recall any sci-fi books I read as of recent.

I remember trying my hand of sci-fi for a writing contest at another forum and it's about Cyrus (yes, the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum antagonist) in his teenage years. I...feel there's a lot I could improve on that story, haha. I don't think I can do a full blown sci-fi novel and such.
