I believe it would be best if you were to focus on OU tiering system. Since it's most popular (is widely-used), I'm positive you'll be having much more of an easier time keeping up with things, and once you learn more and generally become better in the competitive scene, you might want to test out other tiers out there and see how things go.

As far as team goes, one Pokémon I would definitely recommend you to try your hands on is Breloom. Shroomish is not so difficult to capture (it could be found in Petalburg Woods, I believe), and once you capture it and evolve, you should mostly be ready. For moveset, if I were you, I'd choose to use Seed Bomb, Substitute, Leech Seed, and Focus Punch; together, they make Breloom very easy to utilize.

I hope this helps! As for your Tyranitar and Gengar, what moves do you have on them right now, and what natures and abilities do they have?

I'd hope you mind if I put my input in on this;

For you Charizard, Dragon Dance and Dragon Pulse are good. As for you other moves, I suggest putting different ones on. Ancient Power is a good move, but with low PP and base 60 power, chances are it might not get anywhere. Maybe try switching it with Roost or Flamethrower. As for Flame Burst, just like Ancient Power, its low base power wouldn't deal as much damage as other Fire type moves.

If your looking to make this Charizard as a Mega Y, I have a set that would be good for it:

Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Nature: Timid / Modest
Ability: Drought
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
- Dragon Dance
- Roost
- Solar Beam
- Flamethrower

I hope that this helps, even if it's just a little bit.

Is the speed boost from dragon dance that worthwhile on mega Y? I understand mega X dragon dancing for attack and speed but haven't ever seen anywhere mentioning Y having dragon dance before.

I think it'd be good to have it on Mega Charizard Y. It already has an insane Special Attack of 159. I think it would benefit Mega Charizard Y, even if it's just a little speed.
