Sometimes during your day you'll run into something called free food – and I don't mean your groceries at home. At malls and events sometimes there'll be free sample stalls, or maybe complementary items are available with a purchase. Are you a fan of that stuff? Do you get all you can get? What sorts of items are best free? Be realistic! Anything else you can think of that's relevant is welcome too, clearly. We're not Nazis, we won't kill you for something stupid.

I'm reminded of Fresher's Fair at my University; that was amazing for free stuff. The first time I went (because they really don't care if you're a first year or not; I went back in my second and third year with a couple of people and they didn't notice) I came away with enough pens to last me for two years, a small packet of hot sauce, a packet of strawberry-flavoured condoms, one of those teeny-tiny cans of coke, small sachet things of shaving gel, a huge tube of toothpaste, a few packets of Haribo, and more leaflets than I care to remember. They were throwing goodie bags out like nobody's business. Supermarkets need to take the cue of Universities and offer stuff that is either so random you can't help but grab it, or stuff that people are actually going to want.

At the Tesco I go to they usually have little stalls at the end of aisles every now and again filled with free stuff - last week it was that most vile chocolate I've ever seen in my life - and whilst I don't usually bother, my mother always samples stuff. I think half the time they just put the food they can't sell on the things just to try and shift the stock...

The London Fish and Chips Outlet near my place has been giving away free samples of fish for a few months now, and I sometimes pretend to want to make an order just so I ca taste the fried fish ~~~~

Also, University fairs are like Pen fairs to me. The Medical Schools have the best ones, trust me (I'm not even going into medicine so I have to act interested if I want to get one XD)

My college has a cafeteria where most of the day, lunch and dinner are free if I just swap my ID card. Once I use that it's basically all you can eat. They have different things every day, but most of the time they provide the same choices at areas like the deli and the grill.

I'm not going to try to get as much of it as I can, because that just seems rude, but I'm not against taking free samples of things. I run into them mostly in the food court of a local mall and I'm always like...sure, why not, I'll try this bite. Maybe you might convince me to actually eat at your place.

If it's something free with a meal, then unless I feel I don't need it for whatever reason - then sure, I'll take that too.

As soon as I enter a building my vision becomes equivalent to that of a hawk. Once the words "free" or "complementary" hit my field of vision I am in for the kill. Even though I am a tubby at heart free food doesn't really excite me like free random items do. I went to a psychic recently and when I went to walk out the door I saw "FREE" over a basket and it was deodorant. Now did I question why the psyduck a psychic would be giving out free deodorant? Yes I did, but that did not stop me from taking and enjoying it.

I never see any free items worth snagging.
It's usually sweets, coffee, and meat at the whole food store I go too and I don't partake in any of those. Uh, I always end up taking people's pens and pencils home by mistake though so I guess that counts for something. =\

i'm usually hesitant to just eat food offered to me, but i might go for it if i'm with someone on my shopping escapade and they go for it.

i know it's free but i always end up feeling rude for eating the sample and not buying the product. u_u;;

Mmm. Free samples. One of the reasons that I love going to Sam's Club on a Friday. The best things to get a free sample of in my opinion are food items. Especially when it's nice and warm from cooking in that little easy bake oven that they roll around the store. Other than that I really like when they hand out free lotion samples. Gotta keep my hands soft and smellin good.

They sometimes hand out samples of a new flavor of some brand at the train station. These are often flavors that seem to be very weird at first. Nevertheless I do accept them of course, because, you know, it's free.

It's awkward for me to even make eye contact with people giving out free samples in Costco since that tends to drag us into a time-wasting pit for longer than necessary.. and dad has a habit of buying these things just because he can. Always really annoying because he can't manage his money well. So nope, not really into free samples in that regard - if I like the look of something I'd probably buy it anyway. Even if I end up disliking it, chances are someone else in the house will enjoy it to an extent, aha.

The other shopping center parents go to tend to give out gifts for purchases exceeding a certain amount though and it's usually pretty awesome chocolate. Now that I approve of whole-heartedly.

The butcher outside my liquor shop does a sausage sizzle every Saturday morning, and I work every second Saturday so I'm always going in and getting a free slice of Vegemite and cheese flavoured sausage on a stick.

If it's not healthy in the slightest, then I'll most likely bypass the food entirely even while free.

Last week, or the week before, I met up with a friend for a brief 15 minutes or so and he insisted that we grab a free Dairy Queen cone because they were handing those out as celebration for their 75th anniversary. Can't remember the last time I picked up free sample or food.
